Pant smashed 134 and 118 in the first Test at Leeds, showcasing a dazzling array of strokes in both innings. Despite India's five-wicket defeat after setting England a target of 371, Pant's audacious shot-making and resilience stood out as the highlight of the match.
Poll
Will Rishabh Pant score a century in the second Test at Edgbaston?
Yes
No
He now has 808 runs in 10 Tests in England at an average of 42.52, including four centuries. His highest score on English soil - 146 off just 111 balls - came at Edgbaston in 2022, when he rescued India from 98 for 5 and helped post a first-innings total of 416.
Though India eventually lost that match, Pant's innings remains one of the finest by an Indian wicketkeeper overseas.
Leeds to Birmingham: On the road with TOI Sports
If he scores a hundred again at Edgbaston, Pant will become only the seventh visiting batter to score centuries in three successive Tests in England. The exclusive list features Don Bradman, Warren Bardsley, Charles Macartney, Brian Lara, Rahul Dravid and
Daryl Mitchell
. Dravid remains the only Indian on that list, having achieved the feat in 2002.
Pant, who already holds the record for most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper and the most runs by an Asian gloveman in SENA countries, now has a golden opportunity to further etch his name in the history books.

'Don't push him towards early retirement': Sanjay Manjrekar slammed for comments on Jasprit Bumrah
Sanjay Manjrekar slammed for comments on Jasprit Bumrah Aakash Chopra has responded to Sanjay Manjrekar 's criticism about Jasprit Bumrah , defending the pacer's selective Test match participation. The discussion emerged after Bumrah played only three out of five Tests in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, following BCCI medical team's pre-series guidelines. Manjrekar, who had earlier supported Bumrah's captaincy candidature, changed his stance on Saturday. He suggested that Bumrah shouldn't be considered a frontline choice if he cannot commit to all Tests in a series. He also noted that India's two Test victories in England occurred when Bumrah wasn't playing. "I will be honest, I don't think he will play all the Test matches. He is going to pick and choose. Whether it's right or wrong, it's not a moral or ethical debate, is what I think. If you have a player of that level available, play him whenever he can," Chopra said on his YouTube channel. Chopra explained that bowler rotation is a common practice in lengthy Test series. He pointed out that Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna effectively filled in for Bumrah during the England series. Bowlers need to be rotated in any case in a series of three or four Tests," he added. "There is no bowler like Bumrah. Don't push him forcibly towards early retirement because he is 24-carat pure gold. He is the Kohinoor diamond. The longer he plays, the better it is. I don't think he will play too much Test cricket, but for however long he plays, I would say hold onto it." The debate highlights the ongoing discussion about managing workload for key players in international cricket . Bumrah's situation represents a broader trend in modern cricket where players' availability is carefully managed to ensure longevity in their careers. The BCCI medical team's involvement in planning Bumrah's participation demonstrates the structured approach to player management. This strategy aims to maintain the effectiveness and fitness of crucial players across different formats of the game. The contrasting views between former cricketers Manjrekar and Chopra reflect the complex balance between optimal team selection and player preservation. Their discussion brings attention to the evolving nature of cricket management and player utilisation. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Shoaib Bashir Responds To Nathan Lyon's 'Okay' Comment: 'I Don't Really Look...'
Last Updated: England spinner Shaoib Bashir respects Nathan Lyon despite the Australia's comment on his performance. England spinner Shaoib Bashir is unfazed by Nathan Lyon's recent comment on him and respects the Australian for the skills he brings to the table. The Australian had said Bashir had 'been okay' with his performance against India in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, while Jack Leach was the best English spinner. Bashir is currently recovering from a hand injury he suffered in the third Test of the series at Lord's. In six innings, he took 10 wickets at 54.10 on pitches that weren't conducive to spin. Bashir's exploits included the final wicket of Mohammed Siraj at Lord's, bowling with the injured hand, which won England the match. 'Everyone has their own opinions and that's fine. I just stick to what I believe and what the people around me believe. I don't really look at that stuff," Bashir told the PA news agency. 'I've never crossed paths with him (Lyon) but I have been watching him since I was young. I do enjoy the way he bowls, especially his overspin, it's a great asset he has, and the amount of revs he puts on the ball. He's someone I've been looking at for a while now," Bashir added. Bashir and Lyon will almost certainly cross paths when England visit Australia for the 2025-26 Ashes at the end of the year. The Englishman has become the first-choice in the department because of his height and variety, which would be helpful in Australia. There were concerns over his form in England, but his replacement for the last two Tests, Liam Dawson (Leach was ignored), didn't do much better to put forward his case. Bashir hasn't played a Test in Australia but did feature in five matches for England Lions here in 2024, taking only four wickets. He's determined to take his learnings. 'I learned you do get bounce but you've got to find a way to use that," Bashir said of his time in Australia. 'I've got height but there's more than just height to extract bounce from the wicket. Just small technical things. It's just (about) nailing what I do best. If you look at my attributes – I'm tall and try to put as many revs on the ball as I can, with that comes variations. I'm still learning, still quite young, I'm still trying develop my game and better myself day-by-day. That will never stop. I love talking about the game and I love learning," he added. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
