India Gazette25-05-2025

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], May 25 (ANI): The Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings (PBKS) have already qualified for the playoffs, but faced a hurdle on their road to the top two slots on Saturday as they lost to Delhi Capitals by six wickets.
Skipper Shreyas Iyer scored 53 run in 34 balls, while late heroics from Aussie allrounder Marcus Stoinis, who scored an unbeaten 44 run off 16 balls, helped the Kings to a total of 206/8 in 20 overs, according to a release from PBKS.
On the solid batting track at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, the Delhi Capitals were more than up for the challenge to chase down the total and managed to win the match with three balls to spare.
Speaking after the match, PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting addressed the dressing room and asked the team to focus on the upcoming game against the Mumbai Kings on Monday.
'That's just a really good example of the game of T20 cricket tonight. If you are just a little bit off in any facet of the game, quite often you are going to lose. I reckon if you look back tonight, we are probably a little bit off on all three facets of our cricket,' Ponting made an honest assessment of the team's performance in the dressing room, as quoted from a release by PBKS.
Ponting praised Iyer and Stoinis for their batting display and also highlighted Harpreet Brar for his two wickets on a difficult bowling surface.
'Stoinis got us with some magnificent hitting at the end, got us to a total that we thought was probably still going to be good enough. Shreyas played a good captain's knock and steadied the ship. Harpreet Brar, I want to mention your bowling today, I thought you were outstanding again, picked up the two wickets. Arshdeep, I thought you started really well as well, made the first couple of overs, ' he said.
'We probably didn't get the partnerships, we probably didn't have someone go on, get a big score,' he noted.
The former Aussie international also expressed disappointment over the result and asked the team to switch on before the upcoming game on Monday.
'If we look back, I am disappointed that we lost, but I actually think that gives us a chance to sit back and reset now and get ready to go again,' he said.
'Forget about this game tomorrow, but make sure when we turn up for Monday that we are 100% switched on and ready to go,' he said.
Stoinis further stressed on the importance of the upcoming match and said, 'We have obviously qualified for the finals and we are trying to get that top 2 spot, so unfortunately tonight might hurt that little bit. We are playing really good cricket. Different guy are stepping up at different times and a lot is riding on where we finish on the table,' he signed off.
Punjab Kings will next face off against Mumbai Indians on May 26 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. (ANI)

IPL Final Live Score: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) vs (PBKS) Punjab Kings

Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted 190-9 against Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League final on Tuesday after opening batsman Virat Kohli top-scored with 43. Both the teams are hunting for their first title in the T20 tournament and thousands of Kohli fans filled the world's biggest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad, anticipating an IPL crown for their star batter. The 132,000-capacity stadium was nearly packed with a sea of Bengaluru's red and Kohli's jersey number 18 dominating the stands as chants of "Kohli, Kohli" rang out. Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer won the toss and invited Bengaluru to bat first with the two teams unchanged from their previous victories. Brief Scores: RCB: 190/9 in 20 overs (Virat Kohli 43, Rajat Patidar 26; Arshdeep Singh 3/40, Kyle Jamieson 3/48, Yuzvendra Chahal 1/37) vs Punjab Kings. (Live Scorecard) Listen to the latest songs, only on 13.5 1 Suyash Sharma to Nehal Wadhera Outside off, cut behind point for a single. 13.4 0 Suyash Sharma to Nehal Wadhera Another wrong 'un, outside off, Nehal looks to cut but misses. 13.3 2 Suyash Sharma to Nehal Wadhera On middle and leg, a hattrick of googlies, Wadhera clips it towards deep mid-wicket and calls for two. But Shashank is way too slow in taking the first run and has to scamper back for the second. Just about makes it, although Krunal Pandya's throw is far from the stumps at the bowler end. 13.2 0 Suyash Sharma to Nehal Wadhera Another wrong 'un, outside off, Nehal Wadhera looks to play the reverse sweep but misses. Excellent take by Jitesh Sharma, given that he would have been blinded. Gets applauded by the bowler. 13.1 1 lb Suyash Sharma to Shashank Singh WIDE. The googly, down the leg side, Shashank Singh misses his flick. The ball goes off the keeper, Jitesh Sharma's gloves towards short fine leg and the batters take the single. Jitesh immediately convinces Rajat Patidar to take the review for the wide call. And UltraEdge clearly indicates that it went off the pad. So just the single and a legal ball as well. ! STRATEGIC TIMEOUT. Just like in the RCB innings, PBKS are struggling to forge a partnership. Inglis was the only one who was seemingly comfortable and his wicket would have given a big boost to Bengaluru. Spin has been the talking point, with the ball gripping. Here's Suyash Sharma. 12.6 1 Krunal Pandya to Shashank Singh Outside off, pushed back to the bowler, who parries it to cover, conceding a single. 3 runs and a wicket from the over, Krunal Pandya finishes with figures of 4-0-17-2. Player Of The Final? 12.5 1 Krunal Pandya to Nehal Wadhera A short ball, pulled through square leg for a run. 12.4 1 Krunal Pandya to Shashank Singh Full, around off, Shashank chips it in the air, but gets it wide of cover for a single. 12.3 0 Krunal Pandya to Shashank Singh Blocks this to the leg side. 12.2 0 Krunal Pandya to Shashank Singh Around off, pushed towards cover. ! Shashank Singh walks in next at number 6, replacing Josh Inglis. 12.1 W Krunal Pandya to Josh Inglis OUT! CAUGHT! This is not the World Championship by any means but two of Australia's greatest rivals - England and India - combine to dismiss an Aussie. Poor shot by Inglis, given the scenario. This was Krunal Pandya's last over and given that he has been the best bowler, Inglis could have played him out. But the ploy of wanting to attack the first ball of every over lures him and he has given his wicket and possibly, the match away. Flighted, closer to the batter's pads, Inglis jumps down the track and looks to go downtown. But he is not to the pitch of the ball and hence, gets no elevation. The ball travels flat towards long on where Liam Livingstone waits patiently and takes a super-cool catch just inside the ropes, ensuring that he does not touch the ropes. Krunal is all over the moon and RCB will feel that they have one hand and one leg on the trophy. Inglis departs for 39 (23) and Punjab Kings are 98/4 after 12.1 overs. They were 43/0 at one stage. Equation - 93 from 47 balls. ! RCB's pace unit has been the key to their success, picking up 59 wickets at a strike rate of 16.5 - the best for them in any IPL season. This was before this match. 11.6 1 Romario Shepherd to Josh Inglis A short ball again, outside off, slower in pace, Josh waits and then plays the upper cut towards deep third for a run. 10 from the over. 11.5 6 Romario Shepherd to Josh Inglis SIX! Just over the fielder again! A short ball, outside off, Inglis picks the length in a trice and pulls it flat over mid-wicket. Once again, the fielder is in interest again but it just tips over. 11.4 1 Romario Shepherd to Nehal Wadhera On middle, worked through mid-wicket for a single. 11.3 0 Romario Shepherd to Nehal Wadhera A short ball, around middle, punched towards cover. 11.3 1 wd Romario Shepherd to Nehal Wadhera WIDE! A full toss, outside the pitch. Wadhera lets it go and then questions the umpire why isn't it given a no ball, as it landed outside the pitch. To this, the umpire responds by saying that it landed after it crossed the batter, hence the no-ball rule does not come into the equation.

Virat Kohli, Krunal Pandya go wild after ‘sarpanch' Shreyas Iyer dismissed cheaply in IPL final

Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya were among the several RCB players who jumped wildly, celebrating PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer's wicket in the IPL 2025 final on Tuesday. The Punjab captain, fondly called 'sarpanch', was dismissed for 1 run in two balls, leaving his team at 79/3 as they chased a 191-run target at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Rajat Patidar brought in Romario Shepherd for the 10th over. The Guyanese all-rounder managed to get a thin outside edge off Iyer as the batter looked to cut his length delivery outside off stump. Wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma took a comfortable catch, and Iyer walked off. RCB vs PBKS LIVE SCORE, IPL 2025 Final As Shreyas Iyer was dismissed, Kohli and Krunal Pandya jumped to celebrate. The latter even appeared to join his hands. The wicket was massive for RCB as the Punjab skipper was coming off an unbeaten 87-run knock against the Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2. Soon, Pandya dismissed a dangerous-looking Josh Inglis for a 23-ball 39. The spinner forced a mishit by tossing a floated delivery near Inglis' body. Liam Livingstone took a catch at long-on, and PBKS were reduced to 98/4. In the first innings, RCB set a fighting 191-run target for Punjab Kings. Knocks from Jitesh Sharma (24 from 10 deliveries) and Virat Kohli (43 from 35 balls) powered Bengaluru to 190/9. Arshdeep Singh (3/40) and Kyle Jamieson (3/48) led PBKS' bowling attack. Priyansh Arya Breaks Record Of Scoring Most Runs By An Uncapped Indian In...

Last Updated: In 17 matches of IPL 2025 for Punjab Kings, Priyansh Arya scored 475 runs. He scored one century against CSK and two half-centuries. Punjab Kings signed Priyansh Arya for Rs 3.80 crore in the mega auction last year, and in his maiden IPL season, the 24-year-old left-handed batter from Delhi impressed everyone with his batting performances. He finished the IPL 2025 season with 475 runs in 17 matches. His tally of 475 runs helps him break the record of most runs in an IPL season by an uncapped Indian batter. Before Arya, the record was in the name of Devdutt Padikkal. In IPL 2020, Padikkal scored 473 runs for RCB. 475 – Priyansh Arya, 2025 473 – Devdutt Padikkal, 2020 439 – Shreyas Iyer, 2015 397 – Tilak Varma, 2022 391 – Rahul Tripathi, 2017 370 – Venkatesh Iyer, 2021 Arya scored one century and two fifties for Shreyas Iyer-led side in IPL 2025. In the IPL 2025 final for PBKS against RCB, currently underway at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Arya opened the innings in the 191-run chase and scored 24 runs from 19 balls with the help of four fours. He added 43 runs in five overs with Prabhsimran Singh (26) for the first wicket before Josh Hazlewood brought an end to his innings. The overall record of scoring most runs in a debut IPL season by an uncapped batter is in the name of Shaun Marsh. The left-handed top-order batter from Australia played 11 matches for PBKS in 2008 and scored 616 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal holds the record for scoring the most runs in an IPL season by an uncapped batter. The Mumbai-based batter played 14 matches for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2023 and scored 628 runs. Priyansh's performance in IPL 2025 Arya made his IPL debut for PBKS against GT in Ahmedabad on March 25 and scored 47 runs from 23 balls. In PBKS' second league match against LSG in Lucknow, he got out for 8 runs from nine balls and was clean bowled for a golden duck by Jofra Archer in the PBKS-RR match on April 5 in Mullanpur. He, however, quickly bounced back from that setback and scored a 38-ball century against CSK on April 8. In PBKS' fifth league match, Arya scored 36 off 13 balls against SRH and followed it up with scores of 22 from 12 against KKR, 16 against RCB in Mullanpur and 22 in Bengaluru. In PBKS' last six league matches, the left-handed batter scored 69 against KKR, 23 vs CSK, 1 against LSG, 9 against RR, 6 against DC and 62 against the Mumbai Indians in Jaipur.
