Casson, under Rafael Hernandez, bested stablemates Jupiter and Rude Procedure and led in a 1-2-3 finish for trainer Mark Casse in the $125,000 Victoria Stakes (L) on Saturday afternoon at Woodbine.

Earlier in the week, assistant trainer Kathryn Sullivan wondered what it would be like to see the Casse trio, all debut winners, go up against one another in their first stakes appearance.
Sullivan was undoubtedly pleased with the result in the 5½-furlong main track engagement for 2-year-olds.
Rude Procedure and first-time starter Valley of Kings vied for the lead steps out of the gate, but it was Casson, off a step slowly, who would seize control strides before the opening quarter in :22.79.
The roan colt continued to lead the way and widened his advantage over Rude Procedure. Hernandez called upon a confident Casson into the turn for home as the duo looked to separate themselves from their pursuers, while Jupiter split foes, looking to track down the free-wheeling frontrunner.

Ahead by three at the stretch call, Casson glided to the wire a 2 ½-length victor. Jupiter was second, 2¾ lengths ahead of Rude Procedure. Fistfulofmoney was fourth and Valley of Kings was fifth.
The final time was 1:04.31.
'He broke a little slow,' said Hernandez. 'He was outside, so he broke a little bit out, and when I tapped him in the shoulder, he started picking up. So, I let him cruise.
'My horse was just kind of waiting for me to start moving there to give me a second gear. I had total confidence.'
It was the second straight superlative showing from Casson, who is named after A. J. Casson, a member of the famed Canadian group of artists known as the Group of Seven.

A son of Caravaggio out of the Lemon Drop Kid mare Zee Ro Drop, Casson turned heads after a dazzling debut win on May 11 at Woodbine.
Sent on his way as the 3-5 choice, he was in command at every call in the 4 ½-furlong main track maiden special weight sprint, crossing the wire a four-length winner in :52.69.
Owned by Manfred and Penny Conrad, and bred by Ballycroy Training Centre & Villa Rosa Farms, Casson was purchased for $200,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he was presented by Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa.
He returned $9.20 for the Victoria win.

N.L. musicians put local performers in the spotlight with new documentary series

Two traditional Newfoundland musicians are moving from the stage to the screen to shine a spotlight on the musicians who inspired them. So Much More to Here follows Rum Ragged's Aaron Collis and Mark Manning in a short documentary series that profiles Newfoundland and Labrador communities and their musicians. It was released last week on the band's YouTube page. "It was almost like you're letting everyone into the living room where you grew up and learned the music," Collis told CBC Radio's Newfoundland Morning. "It's a bit more personal for sure, but it's also a treat to be able to introduce people to other singers and players who meant a lot to us growing up." Collis said some of the people interviewed aren't those who hit big stages, rather they perform in more intimate settings like kitchen parties. He said that's where traditional music comes from. For example, the show visits Boyd's Cove, which Collis said is special to him because it's where his grandfather's family home is located. "I also met a lot of great musicians up in Boyd's Cove that kind of influenced me and helped me understand really what traditional music … was and how it got passed down over the years," said Collis. When Collis was first learning music, he used CDs and songbooks, but being in the community made him realize he could approach people to learn songs only a few knew. "It really kind of struck me … the importance of sharing the music," he said. Tom Cochrane, the director, videographer and editor of the series, said he's worked on music videos with the band over the years, and this is a bigger project than he's used to, involving a couple of months of shooting and being on the road. "I've personally been inspired by their story by hearing them talk about where these tunes come from," he said. "They talk about them every night on stage and [are] always giving credit back." The series is six episodes, ranging from 14 to 20 minutes in length. Cochrane said that gives them the opportunity to "dive a little deeper" into the subject than other projects he's worked on. "Even within that 20 minutes, it's not long, but it carries you through a narrative of a place and touches on the history of each place, touches on the stories of the people and the tunes," he said. Cochrane said he's also hopeful to do more projects like this in the future, adding the team is looking at this series as a "launchpad." He said the show has been out for about a week and the reception has been "fantastic," with strangers and other musicians reaching out to tell him about the impact this series could have in the coming years. "People [are] talking about, you know, how they can show it to their kids, so they have a sense of what's come before them and then hopefully [they] want to pass it on and continue on with it," Cochrane said. 'Next Gen NYC''s Emira D'Spain Confesses to Traveling with Over 50 lbs. of Glam ‘Wherever' She Goes (Exclusive)

Next Gen NYC star Emira D'Spain revealed she usually travels with a 70-pound glam suitcase D'Spain said that one side is reserved for hair products, and the other is reserved for makeup New episodes of Next Gen NYC air Tuesday nights at 9 p.m. on BravoNext Gen NYC star Emira D'Spain is opening up about her extensive glam routine. D'Spain, 28, tells PEOPLE exclusively, "I have a separate suitcase that I travel with, a huge checked bag that's just glam. So one side is hair and one side is makeup. And it usually always weighs around 70 pounds. So I travel with 70 pounds of glam wherever I go." She then jokes, "It's wild. That's why I hate traveling." While D'Spain is always packed and ready for glam, when asked what item she would never leave the house without, she shares her favorite piece of jewelry. "I feel like I never really take any of my jewelry off, but I have this evil eye bracelet that my mom got for me. This is actually the second one, because the first one I did lose in the Hamptons," she says. She continues, "But I never take it off. I think it's so beautiful. It reminds me of her and it's got her protection in it." Next Gen NYC follows a group of friends in their 20s as they navigate life and love in N.Y.C. The cast includes several children who grew up on Bravo's Real Housewives franchise, including Kim Zolciak's daughter Ariana Biermann and Teresa Giudice's daughter Gia Giudice. They are joined by Riley Burruss (daughter of RHOA alum Kandi Burruss) and Brooks Marks (son of Real Housewives of Salt Lake City's Meredith Marks). The cast also includes Ava Dash (daughter of music mogul Damon Dash), It girl Georgia McCann and crypto trader Charlie Zakkour. Biermann's boyfriend Hudson McLeroy and Shai Fruchter are also set to appear on Next Gen NYC. While D'Spain is one of the cast members forging her own path in the big city without Bravo star parents, she credited her parents for their support in her transition. "Both my parents are incredible. I love them so much. I do feel like the times have changed so much, and as sad as it is to hear stories like that. And even with my parents, it was easy, but it could have been easier," D'Spain says.
