LA Dodgers at Cincinnati Reds odds, picks and predictions

USA Today28-07-2025
The LA Dodgers (61-45) and Cincinnati Reds (56-50) battle Monday as they swing into a 3-game series on the north bank of the Ohio River. The first pitch from Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati is slated for 7:10 p.m. ET. Let's analyze BetMGM Sportsbook's MLB odds around the Dodgers vs. Reds odds and make our expert MLB picks and predictions for the best bets.
Season series: First meeting; Cincinnati took 4 of 7 games in 2024
Los Angeles is continuing a road trip that opened with the Dodgers losing 2 of 3 games at the Boston Red Sox over the weekend. Despite having the overall best record in the NL West, LA is just 3-6 in 9 games since the All-Star break.
The Reds swept the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend. Cincinnati has outscored foes 20-5 in winning each of its last 4 games, and the Reds are 8-3 since July 12. The sweep of the Rays opened a 9-game homsetand at Great American Ball Park; Cincy is 7-1 over its last 8 games at home.
Dodgers at Reds projected starters
RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto vs. RHP Chase Burns
Yamamoto (8-7, 2.55 ERA) is making his 21st start. He has a 1.05 WHIP, 3.1 BB/9 and 10.2 K/9 through 109 1/3 innings.
Burns (0-2, 6.65 ERA) is making his sixth career start. He owns a 1.62 WHIP, 4.6 BB/9 and 14.5 K/9 through 21 2/3 innings.

Dodgers at Reds picks and predictions
Reds 4, Dodgers 3
Moneyline
The Reds swept the Dodgers at Great American last season and are 5-1 across their last half-dozen home games against LA.
Cincinnati has been the sharper club of late, and Burns is a hot prospect off to a slower-than-deserved start to his Major League career.
Yamamoto is a high-level starter, but is likely overrated by bettors due to a .258 batting average on balls in play. In inning lead-off situations, that BABIP has been .234; with runners in scoring position, it has been .235. Those are some fortunate figures tamping down the sophomore righty's ERA. And Yamamoto is backed by what has been a faltering bullpen of late.
Burns, a 2024 first-round draft choice who filed a 1.49 ERA at Double- and Triple-A this season, has been undone by a .400 BABIP.
The REDS (+125) are the value side in this series opener.
Run line/Against the spread
No interest: PASS.
Over/Under
The Under is 4-1 in the last 5 series meetings.
The Dodger offense has been hurt with some low-BABIP output of late. The back end of the LA bullpen is in good shape for what likely sets up as a solid starter matchup in the early innings.
BACK THE UNDER 9 (-105).

Peralta allows 1 hit in 6 innings and Brewers beat Cubs 7-0 in 1st half of doubleheader

CHICAGO (AP) — Freddy Peralta allowed one hit and struck out six batters and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Chicago Cubs 7-0 in the first half of a Monday doubleheader. All-Star pitcher Peralta (15-5, 2.78 ERA) shut Chicago out over six innings to help Milwaukee advance to an MLB-best record of 79-45. The Brewers, which had their franchise-record 14-game winning streak snapped by the Reds on Sunday, have won 23 of 28 games since the break. Brice Turang and Caleb Durbin each had two hits, two RBIs and a solo home run to lead the way. Milwaukee's Abner Uribe, Jared Koenig and Grant Anderson held Chicago to one combined hit over the final three innings of relief. The Brewers attacked Cubs pitcher Cade Horton (7-4, 3.08) early. After Turang's homer in the third, Horton allowed three of the next four batters to reach base and was removed from the game with a blister on his right middle finger. Reliever Drew Pomeranz retired the ensuing batter to escape the inning with a one-run deficit. Chicago called up two hitters on Monday in Luke Little and Gavin Hollowell. Little's throwing error in the sixth allowed a run to score, while Hollowell gave up four earned runs on four walks and two hits in the seventh. Key moment Down 1-0, the Cubs had an opportunity to tie or take the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Peralta walked three consecutive batters to load the bases with one out, but he struck out rookie Owen Caissie and retired Nico Hoerner to end the inning. Key stat Milwaukee surrendered just two hits to Chicago, which drops nine games behind the Brewers in the National League Central. Up next The Cubs and Brewers are set to play the second half of Monday's doubleheader at 7:05 p.m. CT. Neither team had named its starting pitcher. Chicago and Milwaukee will continue the series until Thursday. ___ AP MLB:

Royals' Salvador Perez out with illness in series opener against Rangers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Royals scratched catcher Salvador Perez from the starting lineup of their series opener against the Texas Rangers on Monday night because of an illness. Perez was supposed to catch for starter Michael Wacha and bat fifth in the opener of an important four-game set between teams clinging to wild-card hope. Luke Maile will be behind the plate instead and bat eight in the lineup. Perez, a nine-time All-Star, is hitting .244 with 22 homers and 70 RBIs this season. Maile has become the primary backup in Kansas City after it sent Freddy Fermin to the Padres ahead of last month's nonwaiver trade deadline. But he has only appeared in 11 games this season, hitting .250 with a homer and two RBIs. ___ AP MLB:

Canadian Little Leaguer had a brutally honest response about meeting Juan Soto

Misha Lee who is representing Canada in the #LLWS isn't the biggest fan of Juan Soto. 😂 One of the cooler parts about the Little League Classic is that the Little Leaguers get an opportunity to interact with big-league players and watch an MLB game up close. But when it comes to Juan Soto, one Canadian Little Leaguer wasn't exactly rushing to meet the Mets star. During Sunday's Little League World Series action, Canada defeated Australia, 12-0. And during an ESPN interview ahead of the evening's Little League Classic, Australia's Issei Hamano was asked which player he was hoping to meet. He said Juan Soto. Then, Canada's Misha Lee was asked if he also wanted to meet Soto. And, well, I don't think anyone expected the response. "Eh, he's kind of overrated," Lee said. He added that he was hoping to meet the Mariners' Cal Raleigh instead. And hey, he chose wisely. Raleigh hit his league-leading 47th home run on Sunday. Soto finished the night 0 for 2 with three walks in the Mets' 7-3 win.
