USMNT standout Michael Bradley named Red Bulls II coach

Reuters21 hours ago

June 12 - Longtime U.S. midfielder Michael Bradley was named the head coach of MLS NEXT Pro side New York Red Bulls II on Thursday.
It is the first head coaching position for Bradley, 37, who worked on his father Bob Bradley's coaching staff with the Norwegian club Stabaek from 2023-24.
Bradley will replace Ibrahim Sekagya, who was promoted Wednesday to a spot as an assistant coach for the Red Bulls' first team in MLS.
It is a homecoming of sorts for Michael Bradley, who began his professional career in 2004 with the MetroStars, a forerunner of the current New York Red Bulls of MLS.
"I couldn't be more excited to come back to where my professional playing career began," Bradley said. "This is a dream opportunity as a young coach. I'm looking forward to working every day with this talented group of players, and I'll give everything to help them take the next step in their careers.
"I'm thankful to the club for the opportunity and can't wait to get started."
Bradley played with Toronto FC in MLS from 2014-23, recording 16 goals in 258 matches and earning three All-Star nods. He earned 151 caps with the U.S. men's national team from 2006-19, scoring 17 goals and participating in the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cups. He was the U.S. Soccer Player of the Year in 2015.
Bradley's first match as head coach of Red Bulls II will be on June 21 against Carolina Core FC in High Point, N.C.
"We are excited to welcome Michael to the club," said New York Red Bulls sporting director Julian de Guzman. "He had an incredible playing career and is one of the greatest American soccer players ever.
"We see him as a promising coaching talent and look forward to supporting his development as he transitions to a career behind the touchline."

San Jose's PayPal Park to host 2025 NWSL title game

June 13 - The 2025 NWSL Championship will take place at PayPal Park in San Jose, Calif., on Nov. 22, the league announced Friday. The NWSL has played its title match at a predetermined location since 2015. ESPN reported that PayPal Park had been the clear favorite since the start of the bidding process. The 18,000-seat facility opened in 2015 and serves as the home field for the NWSL's Bay FC and the San Jose Earthquakes of MLS. "We're thrilled to bring the NWSL Championship back to the West Coast and to a region with as rich a history in women's soccer as the Bay Area," NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman said. "This community's passion for the game, combined with the excitement surrounding one of our newest teams in Bay FC, makes it the perfect setting to celebrate the league's top talent and crown our next champion." Last season, the Orlando Pride won the trophy with a 1-0 win against the Washington Spirit at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. --Field Level Media

Who is the favourite to win the F1 Canadian GP?

With McLaren securing a 1-2 in Spain two weeks ago, all eyes will be on the team to secure yet another win after impressive displays between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri this season It is one of the favourite tracks for the drivers as Formula 1 arrives in Canada with McLaren eyeing yet another win as Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris lockhorns again in the Drivers' Championship. After getting a 1-2 in the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona two weeks ago, Piastri now sits 10 points ahead of his teammate as it looks to be an all-McLaren affair for the title. The bookies expect a similar result ahead of this weekend's grand prix in what appears to be favourable conditions for the drivers ahead of Sunday's race. Warm conditions will mean the tyres will not take too long to get to optimal condition as the drivers negotiate around the slow-speed corners before the hairpin that goes straight into the chicaine - a huge overtaking opportunity as we have seen over the years. McLaren have not won on this track since Hamilton was part of the team back in 2012 with Max Verstappen looking to secure his fourth successive victory on this race track. Lewis Hamilton is a longshot in the market as he looks for his first win at Ferrari but has equalled the most pole positions (six) and wins (seven) alongside Michael Schumacher. Another victory in Canada this weekend and he will become the most successful driver in F1 history at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Who is the favourite? The bookies are going easy on this one with Oscar Piastri as the favourite ahead of the Canada GP. The Australian has already picked up five wins this season already including China, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Miami and Spain last time out whereas his teammate Norris has two wins under his belt but has five fastest lap times this season. The bookies have him best priced at 6/4 with Ladbrokes while William Hill and Paddy Power have him at 13/10 to secure a victory in Canada this weekend. Other bookies including Sky Bet are offering 5/4 for the Australian to win his sixth race of the season and spearhead his chances of a Drivers' title come the end of the year. His closest competitor in the market is Brit Lando Norris who is best priced at 2/1 with William Hill and Ladbrokes. Norris has only picked up two wins so far this season but plenty of podium finishes and consistency means he is only 10 points behind his teammate in the Championship with McLaren sitting comfortably in the Constructors' Championship with 362 points - almost double that of second-place Ferrari. GP Winner Odds Oscar Piastri - 6/4 Lando Norris - 2/1 Max Verstappen - 4/1 Charles Leclerc - 16/1 George Russell - 20/1 Lewis Hamilton - 20/1 Kimi Antonelli - 50/1 Carlos Sainz - 250/1 Alex Albon - 250/1 Fernando Alonso - 250/1 BAR - 500/1 18+ | Gamble responsibly | | Odds subject to change Formula 1 Betting Offers If you are on the lookout for the latest free bet offers, then look no further. Taylor Knibb insists 'I'm not the one to beat' as PTO resumes

Defending champion Taylor Knibb insists she is not the one to beat ahead of the T100 Triathlon World Tour's latest stop in Vancouver. Knibb romped to the world title last year but was beaten for the first time under the T100 in San Francisco a fortnight ago when she finished second behind Julie Derron. But the American was keen to highlight the strength in depth of the women's field, and shrugged off the notion that she had a target on her back on Canada's west coast. 'Defending would imply you have something to lose, so reframing that is more appropriate in that there is a world title on the line and I would like to do everything I can to get another world title,' she said. 'No one has earned it yet and it is all for the taking. 'There are a lot of really strong women in the field and if there is anyone who thinks I am the only person to beat, I have a list that is very extensive. 'There are a lot of women who are incredibly strong and incredibly talented. There are a lot of threats.' Knibb won all of her T100 races last season, picking up victories in San Francisco, Ibiza and Las Vegas before sealing the world title with a dominant display in Dubai last November. The 27-year-old was unable to repeat the feat in San Fransico two weeks ago, but the American was positive about her season opener having missed the first leg in Singapore. 'It was a great first race of the season and I am excited to keep on improving from there,' she said. 'I have a lot of work to do. You can't do it all in two weeks, you have to recover for the next race but I am excited for the season ahead.' Knibb will race in Vancouver for the first time in her career, as the T100 Triathlon World Tour makes its maiden stop in Canada. Having raced all around the globe, including at two Olympic Games, Knibb is embracing a new environment and a new course to get her teeth into. 'It's really fun to get to go to a place I've never been to before that is really quite gorgeous,' she added. 'In this sport, there are races that are held in the same place for numerous years and that's fantastic but after the 15th time of visiting a city, it is fun to go somewhere else. 'It looks like a fantastic course. I tried the bike course yesterday. The swim for the women is apparently going to be a really long run in, so we'll see how that plays out. 'It seems like a fantastic venue and the T100 has once again delivered a fantastic race course.' Watch the world's top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes race live in the Vancouver T100 on Saturday 14 June. The broadcast starts at 0915 local time, 1715 in the UK, with the men's race starting at 0930 and then the women at 1200. You can tune in live for free globally on PTO+ or watch on partners channels such as TNT Sports in the UK, Max or Discovery+ in Europe, or beIN in North America. For more details visit
