Delhi Metro Sets New Single-Day Ridership Record With Over 81 Lakh Passengers On Rakhi Festival
According to a post by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on X, the exact figure of the passenger journeys on August 8 was recorded at 81,87,674. This is the highest ever number of people, travelled in the metro in a single day since the network began in 2002.

Delhi Metro had made special arrangements to handle the festival crowd. Extra trains were deployed on busy lines, and the frequency of services was increased during peak hours. Additional staff were stationed at key stations such as Rajiv Chowk, Kashmere Gate, Central Secretariat, and major interchange points to help passengers and manage queues.
On Raksha Bandhan, people travel across the city and surrounding areas to meet their relatives, making public transport busy.

The Delhi Metro network currently runs across 10 lines covering over 390 kilometres and connects the national capital to neighbouring cities including Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurguram, and Faridabad.

Noida man misses train home on Raksha Bandhan, slams cab drivers: netizens say he should have left early on rainy day

In one such instance, a man from Noida recently shared a post describing how he missed his train, which he had booked to travel home for Raksha Bandhan. Slamming cab service platforms such as Ola, Uber, and Rapido, the man, on Reddit, said he missed his train scheduled for August 9 due to heavy rain, because of which cab drivers kept cancelling his ride requests. 'Today on 9th aug 2025 I had a train from Ghaziabad railway station in the afternoon, woke up early , packed my bag , informed my family i will be coming today , i was so excited to go home and celebrate with them, but when i started booking my ride from ola, uber and rapido , there was no response , tried 15 minutes with all the prices i could but no one picked my ride, it was raining outside, i took my bike and went outside so that might find any auto or uber driver sitting , i did find uber drivers outside but none accepted to come they were all slacking in there cabs,' the post read. He further requested cab drivers to fetch him to the Ghaziabad railway station; however, they refused. 'i requested so much still they were like ' bhaiyaa kal se soya nhi hu mujhe sona hai' and some just nodded 'no' then when 30 min were remaining to catch the train i got an auto driver idle , asked him if he will drop me to the station , he said 'no I won't go just came from there and there is too much traffic given the time frame , there is no way you will reach on time ', So, yes this is what happened with me today.
