Now it seems that plans have been re-imagined with Julia now confirming she is still lined up to play the iconic popstar in a Netflix miniseries about her life.
Madonna and Julia are working with filmmaker Shawn Levy on the project, which is in the early stages of development.
Confirming that the project was still happening, despite the uncertainty, Julia told the SmartLess podcast: 'Yeah, I mean, that's supposed to still happen."

'I kind of just wanted to see if I could do it, because I wasn't a trained dancer and I had to learn how to dance and then dance in front of her and convince her that I can dance, basically, and sing.
"And sing with her!'
She also opened up on how she has adopted a 'what would Madonna do' strategy to help cope with nerves.
Julia added: ''OK, what would Madonna do?' Which is convince you that she deserves, you know, to be in this room, and I owned it.

"I was kind of like, 'You can take it or leave it, but if you leave it, if I leave, then that's on you''.
However, she did appear to hint that the project may still be far off hitting screens as she affirmed that "anything that's great, takes time".

Last November, she opened up on her anger at the delays in releasing her biopic after a frustrating meeting with her agents and Hollywood execs.
Writing on Instagram,
the Queen
of Pop said: "After struggling for days in LA, listening to producers and agents tell me why I couldn't make my
film
, I realised that everything in my life is going to be challenged.
"No easy rides for me. I guess I should be grateful..
"It forces me to think outside the box. I did not have a normal life. I cannot make this in the normal way."

Frankie Bridge says ‘you're dead to me' in cryptic post after ‘secret feud' is revealed

FRANKIE Bridge has raised eyebrows after saying 'you're dead to me' in a scathing post after appearing to 'snub' former bandmate and friend Rochelle Humes. The Loose Women panellist, 36, took to TikTok to share the damning video, showing her sipping on a glass of rosé wine. 4 Frankie raised eyebrows with a scathing post about someone being 'dead to her' Credit: Getty 4 Last month it was revealed she and former bandmate Rochelle - pictured with husband Marvin Humes - 'snubbed' each other at Wimbledon Credit: WireImage 4 The former pop stars have been working together since they were 12 Credit: Getty A caption written over the clip read: 'You're so quiet… 'Thanks, you said something five years ago and I've just realised you're actually dead to me.' Frankie then added below: 'Takes me a while, but once you're dead you're dead.' The Sun has contacted a representative for Frankie for comment. More on Frankie Bridge ALL FIRED UP Mysterious 'feud' revealed as The Saturdays 'snub' each other at Wimbledon Mum-of-two Frankie and presenter Rochelle, 36, shot to fame together at just 12-years-old in pop group S Club Juniors. Frankie and Rochelle then joined girlband The Saturdays in 2007, going on to enjoy a string of huge hits including Issues, Ego and What About Us. The Saturdays - also made up of Vanessa White, Una Healy and Mollie King - have always insisted their decision to go on indefinite hiatus in 2014 wasn't down to them falling out. Speaking to HELLO! previously, Frankie explained: 'We never fell out. We never really officially broke up or anything, so the option [to get back together] has kind of always been there.' But last month The Sun revealed an apparent 'feud' between Frankie and Rochelle, after they gave each other the cold shoulder at Wimbledon. As guests of sponsor Evian, the pair were invited to watch the tennis in a suite in the sought-after hydrangea building nearCourtOne. But while they mingled with other celebrities and guests just yards away from one another - they failed to actually interact with each other. The I'm A Celebrity clip I use to win any row with Marvin, says Rochelle Humes An insider told The Sun: 'It was clear the women were keeping their distance. They sat on opposite sides of the suite and kept to themselves. 'While Frankie posed for pictures with S Club's Rachel Stevens, Rochelle took selfies with her husband Marvin and his I'm A Celebrity campmate Sam Thompson. 'It was a shame because having the two girls from The Saturdays together for a mini-reunion was exciting for everyone there. 'Even though they were pleasant to each other when they did brush shoulders, they didn't spend any extra time together than they had to, in between being amicable while passing each other en route to watch the tennis.' While Frankie has taken the 'never say never' approach to a potential Saturdays return and Una, 43, has admitted several times she's ready to perform with the girls again, Rochelle previously insisted she 'highly doubts' it will happen.

Top US jockey Katie Davis, who rose to fame in Netflix documentary, to seek Frankie Dettori advice before Shergar Cup

TORI TIPS Top US jockey Katie Davis, who rose to fame in Netflix documentary, to seek Frankie Dettori advice before Shergar Cup KATIE DAVIS is going to call on the king of Ascot for advice ahead of Saturday's Shergar Cup. Top jock Davis, 33, will pick Frankie Dettori's brain before riding for the Rest of the World at the team event, alongside Winx's jockey Hugh Bowman and Hong Kong's Karis Teetan. 2 Katie Davis attended a Shergar Cup media event at Ascot on Thursday 2 She will seek advice from Frankie Dettori before riding at Ascot Credit: Getty Based in New York, she is one of the most successful female jockeys riding in America, while her profile received a major boost when she featured on the Netflix documentary Race For The Crown. She has ridden abroad before, including in Saudi Arabia, but never in Britain so she will get help from the man who dominated Ascot during his legendary career in the UK. She said: 'Frankie said at least three times to me 'when the entries come out Katie, you better call me, don't you forget!'. 'We were both breezing horses with Wesley Ward at the time, so we'll FaceTime before racing and he will help me analyse my rides and talk me through the track. Trust me, I'm here to win. 'He is the king of this place - he even has statues here. I did a Frankie dismount after riding a winner at Saratoga before, though I don't think I'll try it on Saturday.' Davis' family is engrained in American horse racing. Her dad, Robbie, was a hugely successful jockey, while her brother, Dylan, and husband, Trevor McCarthy, are also top riders. She has made a big impact of her own over the last few years and has bagged several stakes wins in New York, and now she can't wait to ride in the Shergar Cup for the first time. Davis, who hopes to find some time to do some sight-seeing in London with her hubby, said: "My whole family is in racing. My dad was a jockey in the 80s and 90s and retired in 2003. "He kept us very far from the sport and when he came he never talked about it, but as we got older when he started training we all got into it. "I've won five or six stakes races this year and placed a lot in Graded stakes, but I'm looking for my first big one. It's my goal this year and hopefully I'll get there. 'Words can't explain how much I am looking forward to the Shergar Cup. The track looks incredible, I will take it all in and enjoy it as much as I can." Each jockey is allotted five rides on the six race card, and Davis' best chance will come on Andrew Balding's Kensington Palace Stakes winner Miss Information in the Shergar Cup Mile. Davis said: 'I know Andrew Balding is one of the top trainers here. Miss Information won at Royal Ascot so I can't wait to get on a horse with a really good chance." She was joined at the party by her best mate, Barbie actress Margot Robbie, 35, as well as musicians Bebe Rexha, Tyga and Paris Jackson, plus Succession actor Macaulay Culkin. She has told how she was prompted to seek help after she was photograped acting eratically at an LA airport three years ago. Wearing a Britney Spears T-shirt, she was dishevelled and jittery after being forced off rapper Jay-Z's private jet. She later told Vogue: 'I hadn't slept. I was not OK. It's heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point it was like, OK, I don't look well. 'You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way those pictures were something to be grateful for.' Hailing her new-found sobriety, she said to Elle: 'It's been worth every second. I just don't know what it would take for me to give it up. I am stable. I'm calmer.' Asked what she had learned, she replied: 'That I'm resilient as hell. That anything is possible. I think I used to say that and not believe it. But now I really believe it.'
