"My cabinet, MLAs work among people," Delhi CM Rekha Gupta marks '100 Din Seva Ke' of her govt
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta participated in the '100 Din Seva Ke' program on the occasion of completing 100 days of the BJP government in Delhi. The Delhi CM tore into her predecessor, saying that they had claimed to be common people who became greedy for power, while her government was working on the streets among the people.
'When the movement started from Ramlila Maidan, thousands and lakhs of people joined it, I joined too, others also joined...Everyone supported it, thinking something better would happen in Delhi and the country. Those people who used to say that they are not greedy for power became so greedy that they could not see anything except power...My cabinet, our MLAs, all the public representatives continuously work on the streets among the people...'
The Delhi CM also criticised the previous AAP government for questioning the valour of the Armed Forces.
Speaking with actor Anupam Kher, Rekha Gupta said, 'I feel very sad when I think about those people who used to sit in the chair (of Chief Minister) and raised questions on the Indian Armed Forces and used to join hands with the enemies of the nation...Operation Sindoor increased the respect for women. I thank PM Modi for that...All the women of the nation salute the armed forces for destroying the terrorist sites in enemy territory...'
She added that the bravery shown by the armed forces had strengthened the pride of Indian women. 'Together we bow down to those who have shown bravery in the Operation Sindoor,' she said.
Later, she recited a poem titled 'I Am Sindoor Too'. 'I am patient in silence, I am brave in challenge. Yes, I am Sindoor too, I am the slaughterer of terrorists, I am the limit of courage, I am Jeevan Daatri, I am Sahar's Sakshi, I am Vermilion. I am the gift of every daughter-in-law. I am India's tomorrow, and today I am Hindustani modesty, yes, I am Sindoor.'
When Anupam Kher asked why she loved Delhi, Rekha Gupta shared her deep admiration for the city's cultural diversity. 'What I like best about Delhi is unity. This is the form of Ek Mini India, Ek Bharat...Shreshtha Bharat,' she said.
She also explained that people from every part of India live in Delhi, and together they celebrate each other's traditions and festivals. 'Today, if we all celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi of Maharashtra, we also play Garba of Gujarat enthusiastically. When you celebrate the 'Teej' of Haryana, 'Chhath Puja' of Bihar is also celebrated with great ceremony,' she added.
Gupta also revealed the first decision of her government, saying, 'We will celebrate the State Day of every state here and the government will always stand in the happiness and sorrow of every state.' (ANI)

I also look forward to engaging with leaders from partner countries," the statement added. On 18 June, he will visit the Republic of Croatia and have meetings with President Zoran Milanovic and Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic. 'Both our countries enjoy centuries-old close cultural links. As the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia, it will open new avenues for bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest." This three-nation tour is also an opportunity to thank partner countries for their steadfast support to India in our fight against cross-border terrorism, and to galvanise global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, the statement added. Insult to Dalits': NDA turns heat on Lalu over Ambedkar video row, RJD hits back
A video from Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad's 78th birthday event on Wednesday has set off a political storm in Bihar. In the video circulating on social media, an RJD worker can be seen gifting Lalu a portrait of B R Ambedkar and holding it close to his feet. The RJD chief continued to pose for photographs, while the portrait remained at this position. The incident has drawn sharp criticism from the RJD's rival parties, particularly the ruling BJP and its NDA allies, who have accused Lalu of allegedly 'insulting the architect of the Indian Constitution' and 'hurting Dalit sentiments'. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister and BJP leader Samrat Choudhary called the incident 'an unpardonable insult to Dr Ambedkar and the Dalit community,' adding that it marked 'a black chapter in Bihar's political history'. He also demanded a public apology from the RJD patriarch. 'It is extremely unfortunate that on Lalu ji's birthday, such an insult to Baba Ambedkar took place. There can be no greater shame for democracy. This incident is a clear symbol of a dark chapter for the RJD… It reflects the mindset of those who have always used Dalit votes but have little regard for their icons,' Choudhary said. Lalu had 'consistently humiliated the backward, most backward, and Dalit communities in Bihar,' he alleged. Union Minister and former Bihar CM Jitan Ram Manjhi also condemned the incident, accusing the RJD chief of 'disrespecting' everyone. 'Placing Dr Ambedkar's photo at his feet is a huge insult to our god and to all Dalits. I am not surprised. The public may see this as something new… But they must realise that if he can insult everyone, why would he spare Baba saheb? Society is watching and understanding everything, and I believe even Lalu ji's own community will not tolerate this arrogance,' Manjhi said. Senior BJP leader and former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad called the incident a 'grave insult' to the Constitution. 'Ambedkar stands as a pillar of our Constitution and embodies social justice. Such behaviour reveals a feudal mentality,' he said. Lok Jan Shakti Party (Ram Vilas) MP Shambhavi Choudhary, who represents the Samastipur seat, echoed similar views. Accusing the RJD of 'deceiving Dalit and Mahadalit communities,' Choudhary said: 'The RJD is continuously misleading the Dalit and Mahadalit communities who have stood by them. Yet, whenever given the chance, they end up disrespecting Dalits and their rights.' She added: 'Ambedkar ji fought for our rights and gave us a voice and strength. This is a moment for the people of Bihar to become aware… If they (RJD) truly respect Dalits, how could they allow Ambedkar ji's portrait to be placed at their feet? Lalu Yadav did not even react or ask for the photo to be moved. He was happy to have Ambedkar ji's photo at his feet.' On its part, the RJD however dismissed the NDA leaders' allegations as 'politically motivated'. RJD spokesperson Mrityunjay Tiwari said the video was 'deliberately misrepresented' to malign Lalu's image and polarise Dalit voters ahead of the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. 'It's BJP's propaganda. They don't have any topic. BJP themselves have been known for disrespecting Baba Sahab. Lalu ji has always championed the cause of social justice and has the highest respect for Dr Ambedkar. They are distorting facts for electoral gains,' he said.

Violence returns to WB jute industry, manager assaulted
Violence returned to the West Bengal jute industry on Saturday (June 14, 2025) after a senior official of the Auckland Jute mill, located in the State's North 24-Parganas, was assaulted. The management of the Jute mill put a suspension of work notice, putting at stake the livelihood of around 4,000 workers. Sankar Debnath, the official of the jute mill, was allegedly assaulted by a group of workers. Mr. Debnath was hospitalised after the assault. The attack, which took place outside the mill premises, was caught on the closed-circuit television cameras. According to reports, tension was brewing between a section of workers and the management of the jute mill located under Jagatdal police station for past few days which resulted into the violence. Former Barrackpore MP and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arjun Singh accused the Trinamool Congress for the violence and suspension of work. 'An internal rift is going on among the TMC backed criminals over the share of the extortion money. Because of the internal feud of TMC criminals, a Bengali Hindu Sankar Tarafdar was attacked in the Mill premises by the criminals belonging to the VOTE BANK of@MamataOfficial. The mill has been closed and about 4,000 labourers are jobless now,' Mr. Singh said on social media. The BJP leader also added that hundreds of Bengal Global Business Summits ( annual event of WB govt to attract fresh investment to the State) will bear no fruit if the law and order remains like this where the goons rule, not the law. Jute mills which are located on the banks of Hooghly around Kolkata around Kolkata have been source of employment of workers for almost over a century. Occasionally the industry struggles with closures and suspension of work. About 10 years ago, the CEO of Northbrook jute mills in Hooghly's Bhadreswar was beaten to death by agitating workers. West Bengal still remains the highest producer of jute in the country. In 2023-24 West Bengal registered a yield of 2883.20 per hectare and 7865.70 in bales. The Jute Corporation of India (JCI) has increased the minimum selling price (MSP) of jute from ₹5,335 to ₹5,650 per quintal for crop year 2025-26 to discourage distress sales by farmers.
