The 2025 BET Awards was the cultural reset we needed. Hosted live in Los Angeles, this year's ceremony marked the 25th anniversary of the iconic event. From heartfelt tributes to unfiltered moments of resistance, the show gave us everything: nostalgia, truth, style, and soul. Check out a gallery of this year's best moments inside.
One of the most powerful highlights of the night came from Jamie Foxx, who accepted the Ultimate Icon Award with a tearful, deeply personal speech. After suffering a life-threatening stroke in 2023, Foxx made a triumphant return to the public eye, introduced by none other than Stevie Wonder. As the crowd stood in ovation, Foxx took his time, thanking God, his family, and the people who stood by him through recovery. His raw emotion cut through the glamor, grounding the night in gratitude and grace.
On the other end of the spectrum, rising star Doechii used her moment in the spotlight to turn up the heat. Accepting her award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist, she chose to spotlight the ICE protests happening just blocks away from the venue. With military presence in the area and growing unrest across the country, Doechii made it clear: 'We all deserve to live in hope not fear.' Her bold alignment with mistreated communities—including Gaza, trans lives, and undocumented folks—shifted the room's energy and turned applause into action.
Adding a dose of feel-good nostalgia, BET paid homage to 106 & Park with a 25th anniversary tribute that had fans in a Y2K time warp. With appearances from hosts past and performances from Ashanti, Bow Wow, and Amerie, the tribute served as a love letter to the era when countdown shows ruled the culture and Rocawear reigned supreme.
Tyler Perry, no stranger to platform-building, took the mic to reflect on legacy and responsibility. His message was also clear that owning your power isn't enough if you're not creating space for others to shine. It was a quiet but urgent call, adding depth to a night full of demonstration.
With Kendrick Lamar sweeping five wins, Mariah Carey belting out high notes, and Kevin Hart walking the tightrope between comedy and critique in his opening monologue, the 2025 BET Awards were more than a celebration—they were a mirror, reflecting where we've been, where we're going, and who we need to become. Jamie Foxx Says Diddy Accusations Hurt The Black Community: 'That Was Our Hero'
Jamie Foxx isn't holding back when it comes to Sean 'Diddy' Combs and the mountain of legal trouble currently surrounding the music mogul. The Academy Award winning actor and comedian pegged him as 'nasty' as part of a recent standup bit. During an appearance at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, Foxx lit into Diddy with a sharp mix of humor and disbelief, taking jabs at the disgraced rapper amid his ongoing federal sex trafficking and racketeering investigation. 'That Diddy sh*t crazy, huh?' Foxx opened, prompting laughter and humored reactions from the crowd. Referring to the now-infamous 2024 federal raids of Combs' properties—where agents allegedly confiscated a suspiciously large amount of baby oil—Foxx took the jokes further. 'I don't know if he's going to jail but he's a nasty motherf**ker! Am I right? Especially for our community. White people, it's cool, but for Black people, like, that was our hero! All that goddamn baby oil, boy.' Foxx didn't stop there. He reflected on the cultural impact of Diddy, noting the fall from grace hits harder for the Black community. 'For the Black people in here, you know how that hurts us. 'Cause Diddy was, 'It's all about the Benjamins.' That was our whole culture. Now, 'It's all about the baby oil.'' This isn't the first time Foxx has referenced the embattled Bad Boy CEO. In his comedy special What Had Happened Was, Foxx joked about wild internet rumors tying Diddy to his 2023 medical emergency. 'The internet said Puffy was trying to kill me, that's what the internet was saying,' he told the audience. 'I know what you thinking, 'Diddy?' Hell no, I left them parties early.' Foxx is currently on a run promoting What Had Happened Was and recently appeared in the Netflix comedy Back In Action opposite Cameron Diaz. Hear audio of Foxx's remarks about Combs below. Jamie Foxx Emotionally Accepts Ultimate Icon Honor At 2025 BET Awards
Jamie Foxx received the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards in true legend fashion. The 57-year-old shared gratitude for the network and the 'Black award' on stage on Monday night from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, accepting the prestigious honor from Stevie Wonder. 'I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there,' expressed the comedian to a standing ovation. 'I gotta be honest, when I saw the In Memoriam, I was like, man, it could have been me. I don't know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance, I'm not gonna turn down.' He continued, 'And I promised, 'whatever reason you put this on me, I promise imma do right and imma do right in front of y'all. I know a lot of times when we get on, we forget about where we come from. When I did my special, it was in front of Black people. Black people was the one who said, 'I got you.'' The 'Unpredictable' singer continued to elaborate on his love for his Black audience and the BET network. 'I say this all the time, thank you to Black people and the Black award, because this is what really counts. A lot of people think like the Oscars is the biggest thing, and we got to quit thinking like that. And that's coming from a person who won an Oscar, I was nominated twice, but the Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us.' Ahead of the emotional acceptance speech, Foxx's musical collaborators, peers, and more united to honor him on stage with a medley of his fan-favorite records. Craig Robinson, Teddy Riley, Babyface, Ludacris, Jennifer Hudson, Tank, and others delivered 'Unpredictable,' 'Gold Digger,' and more. Snoop Dogg Accepts Ultimate Icon Award At 2025 BET Awards
Dr. Dre presented Snoop Dogg with the ultimate icon award at the 2025 BET Awards on Sunday night (June 9). Dressed in an all black tux with a satin black bandana scarf, Snoop neé Calvin Broadus Jr., took the stage with his 'bosslady' wife, Shante, by his side. Fresh off a whirlwind year that included serving as a correspondent at the 2024 Paris Olympics and performing at Donald Trump's Inaugural Ball, he opened his speech with heartfelt praise for fellow honorees Mariah Carey, Kirk Franklin, and Jamie Foxx. He also extended gratitude to BET, his team, and his family, while thanking his brethren in music: Dr. Dre, Warren G, Korrupt, and the late singer Nate Dogg. Snoop even shouted out his Death Row family, including those 'from the beginning.' Taking a moment to admire Shante, his wife of 28 years, he said, 'This is why I'm so rock solid. This is why I'm able to deal with all the things I'm able to deal with — when I've got God in my life and I've got a queen in my life. She's always been my everything.' Snoop also praised his children and 10 grandchildren, calling them his 'greatest inspiration.' Further into his speech, the 53-year-old left the audience with a heartfelt message about what Hip-Hop has meant to him. 'Hip-hop, it gave me a voice. It gave me a purpose,' he said. 'It gave me a way out and a way in … Being an icon, it ain't about fame. It's about legacy. It's about what you build, what you leave behind, and who you lift up along the way.' Following a brief commercial break, Snoop Dogg cemented his Ultimate Icon status with a high-energy medley including his biggest hits like 'Unsung Heroes,' 'Drop It Like It's Hot,' 'Nuthin' But a 'G' Thang,' and others. Closing out his set, he brought out Charlie Wilson, who joined him for 'Beautiful' before turning the room into a cookout with The Gap Band's 'Outstanding.' Warren G and Kurupt also joined Snoop for 'Ain't No Fun (If the Homies Can't Have None).' Check out Snoop Dogg's acceptance speech and iconic performance above.
