Jamie Foxx Emotionally Accepts Ultimate Icon Honor At 2025 BET Awards
Jamie Foxx received the Ultimate Icon Award at the 2025 BET Awards in true legend fashion. The 57-year-old shared gratitude for the network and the 'Black award' on stage on Monday night from the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles, accepting the prestigious honor from Stevie Wonder.
'I cannot even begin to express the love that I feel from everybody out there,' expressed the comedian to a standing ovation. 'I gotta be honest, when I saw the In Memoriam, I was like, man, it could have been me. I don't know why I went through what I went through, but I know my second chance, I'm not gonna turn down.'
He continued, 'And I promised, 'whatever reason you put this on me, I promise imma do right and imma do right in front of y'all. I know a lot of times when we get on, we forget about where we come from. When I did my special, it was in front of Black people. Black people was the one who said, 'I got you.''
The 'Unpredictable' singer continued to elaborate on his love for his Black audience and the BET network.
'I say this all the time, thank you to Black people and the Black award, because this is what really counts. A lot of people think like the Oscars is the biggest thing, and we got to quit thinking like that. And that's coming from a person who won an Oscar, I was nominated twice, but the Icon Award is the most important award because it comes from us.'
Ahead of the emotional acceptance speech, Foxx's musical collaborators, peers, and more united to honor him on stage with a medley of his fan-favorite records. Craig Robinson, Teddy Riley, Babyface, Ludacris, Jennifer Hudson, Tank, and others delivered 'Unpredictable,' 'Gold Digger,' and more.

'Still don't know how I didn't win the Sportswoman of the Year for the BET Awards, but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other nominees. I just thought accolades mattered,' she posted on X. Immediately, some interpreted that as a slight towards Reese. However, Shields cleared up her remarks, per Brandon 'Scoop B.' Robinson of Scoop B. Radio. In an exclusive interview with Robinson, Shields said she was not just trying to dismiss Reese but rather exuding confidence in herself. 'I have mad respect for her and all the other female athletes that excel in their sport,' she wrote in a follow-up tweet. 'As for my earlier comments, I am allowed to express my feelings. I was shocked I didn't win. I was under the impression the category was graded on accolades of your sport. It's OK to be a competitor.' Later on, Shields said she saw herself in Reese and called out media attempts to drive a wedge between Black women. 'Anything that we do—good, bad—we say something, wear something; they're all down our throats,' Shields said. 'Grown men, grown women constantly judging us, trolling us, trying to break our will and make us not be confident. And I think we both experience that. Being Black women, they attack us every single day. When I see her getting it and I go through it myself, I'm clapping for myself and clapping for her, because she just keeps going. I actually hate that it looks like I joined the Angel Reese hate train.' Although "Sweet Life: Los Angeles" has ended production, its cast continues to find solace in the show's run, which technically is not over just yet. In 2021, "Sweet Life: Los Angeles," created and executive produced by Issa Rae, premiered, and some credited the show for bringing a breath of fresh air to the reality TV landscape. According to IMDB, the unscripted program gave "an honest and unique look into what it means to be young, Black, and in constant pursuit of one's dreams in the heart of South Los Angeles." Hart is currently executing events for a major streaming platform. "We're prepping ourselves for the most fun years of our relationship in our 30s," Burns said. Cheryl Des Vignes and Jerrold Smith II Longtime lovebirds Cheryl Des Vignes and Jerrold Smith II are living in newlywed bliss after getting married in Los Angeles in May. Their wedding had 170 people in attendance, including cast members of the show. "I feel like our wedding was just the perfect representation of two LA kids who grew up in the city," Des Vignes told USA TODAY. "Right after dinner ended, it was just nonstop dancing, taking photos, and having a good time." The newlyweds have been together since high school, and viewers got a glimpse of their journey on the show. "The best part was it just kind of brought both of us closer," she said. "Having somebody in my corner while going through all that was amazing." Des Vignes is a senior designer at a fashion company and a business owner. Smith works as the head of marketing for a China-based shoe company. The couple plans on going to Italy and Greece for their honeymoon in the fall.
