Rs 780-crore drugs seized, 1.2k arrested for smuggling in 2 years in Noida; 17 linked to international gangs
Noida: A total of 1,269 people, 17 of whom had links with international gangs, involved in the sale and smuggling of drugs have been arrested in the district since 2023. During this period, drugs worth more than Rs 780 crore have been seized across 1,170 cases.
Speaking to TOI, police commissioner Laxmi Singh outlined GB Nagar police commissionerate's efforts to effectively control the illegal trade of intoxicants, drugs, and narcotics, and take action against those involved in their trade.

"Around 102.8kg of MDMA worth about Rs 750 crore has been recovered. Along with this, 1.5kg of hashish worth about Rs 1.5 lakh, 7,134kg of ganja worth nearly Rs 17.7 crore, 572g of OGCanvas worth about Rs 24,000, 148g of cocaine worth Rs 8 lakh, over 800g of intoxicant pills worth about Rs 30,000, and 14.7kg smack worth more than Rs 2.2 crore were recovered. Around 49 vehicles were also seized," commissioner Singh said.
Earlier this month, in a joint operation by SWAT and Badalpur police station team, three ganja smugglers were arrested and police recovered around 149kg of ganja, estimated to be worth about Rs 40 lakh, along with a truck, from their possession. In Oct 2024, Noida police launched 'Operation Prahar', under which drug hotspots such as educational institutions, coaching centres, and slums were identified and raids were conducted. A total of 75 arrests were made and 115kg of ganja, as well as smack and e-cigarettes were recovered across several raids.
In Jan 2023, the commissionerate headquarters located in Sector 108 opened up a 'Narcotics Cell' and established a 24-hour helpline to receive anonymous tips about drug smuggling activity. The cell and helpline aid cops in obtaining information to verify smuggling-related activity, create profiles on persons of interest and understand the nexus of different gangs. They also help identify drug hotspots, and monitor and act against illegal drug supply in NCR coordinated through the dark web.
Speaking on the commissionrate's future drug control plans, commissioner Singh said that their focus will be on de-addiction programmes. Police will run continuous awareness programmes to inform residents, particularly youths, of the ill effects of drugs.

Villagers protest death of youth in Nalanda
Patna: An irate mob blocked the road near Ajanta Cinema at Ramchandrapur locality under Laheri police station area in Nalanda on Sunday, following the recovery of the body of a 22-year-old-youth. He was missing from his home since Saturday evening, and his body was recovered later in the night from Shivaji Nagar locality. The family alleged that he was killed by his friends. The youth was working in a paint company in Hyderabad and had recently returned home on May 20, police said. The situation was brought under control after assuring the family of a proper investigation into the matter." He further said that while initial probe suggests a possible drug overdose, the exact cause of death would be determined after the postmortem. "The family maintains that this could be a premeditated incident and demands swift arrest and strict punishment for the culprits. The police are investigating the case from all angles, and further action will be taken based on the family's formal complaint," the SHO added.

Bengaluru stampede: Karnataka increase compensation to Rs 25 lakh for families of those who died
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Saturday announced that the compensation for the families of those who died in the stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium has been increased to Rs 25 lakh from Rs 10 lakh, reported The Indian Express. Eleven persons were killed and more than 50 others were injured in the stampede that took place on Wednesday at Gate Number 3 of the stadium, where fans had gathered to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru's victory in the Indian Premier League and welcome the team. On Thursday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru announced Rs 10 lakh compensation for each of the 11 families of those who died. The team also said it was setting up a fund, RCB Cares, to support those injured in the incident. 'The unfortunate incident…has caused a lot of anguish and pain to the RCB family…Our fans will always remain at the heart of everything that we do,' it said in a social media post. The compensation by the state government is in addition to the cricketing team's announcement. NCB secures freezing of illegally acquired property worth Rs 9.20 crores in Amphetamine trafficking case
New Delhi [India], June 8 (ANI): The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has achieved a significant breakthrough in its fight against drug trafficking, successfully freezing assets worth Rs 9.20 crores linked to an amphetamine trafficking case. The office of Competent Authority and Administrator under the SAFEMA & NDPS Act has confirmed the orders of attachment issued by NCB (Operations branch), concerning immovable properties worth Rs. 9.20 crore of the prime accused linked to a major seizure of 95.501 kilograms of Amphetamine effected in October -2024. These assets have a registered value of Rs. 9.20 crores. The immovable properties include a luxury apartment in Jaypee Greens and a factory premises in Kasna Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh, acquired using proceeds from international narcotics trafficking. The operation was conducted jointly by the Narcotics Control Bureau, operations branch, and Delhi Police Special Cell, which uncovered a clandestine Amphetamine manufacturing lab in Kasna Industrial Area, Gautam Budh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh and seized 95.501 kg of Amphetamine in both solid and liquid forms. Investigations conducted so far have revealed that the mastermind, whose property has been attached, is Delhi-based businessman and the main manufacturer of seized drugs, who was assisted by four other accused, including a Tihar Jail warden and a Mexican national. The syndicate was involved in transnational smuggling of synthetic drugs. All five accused were arrested and are presently under Judicial Custody. Investigation also revealed that the setting up of the clandestine laboratory was financed by the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generacion (CJNG), a notorious Mexican cartel, which transferred money to Dubai using cryptocurrency. The amount was then received in New Delhi, in cash, by the accused through hawala, facilitated in three separate instalments. This case exemplifies NCB's commitment to effectively identifying drug trafficking networks and disrupting their ecosystem by freezing illegally acquired assets. To fight against drug trafficking, NCB seeks the support of the citizens. Any person can share information related to the sale of narcotics by calling on MANAS- National Narcotics Helpline Toll Free Number- 1933. The identity of the caller is kept confidential, police said. (ANI)
