Education Ministry organises two-day Vice Chancellors' Conference of Central Universities in Gujarat's Kevadia
The event will be attended by the Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan; Minister of State for Education, Sukanta Majumdar; and senior officials from the Ministry of Education.
According to an official release from the Ministry of Education, the conference, as part of the five years of implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) on July 29, will bring together leaders of Central Universities to review the institutional progress and collectively shape the path ahead.
The discussions over the two days are expected to broadly cover three key areas, including Strategic Alignment, to ensure that Central Universities are aligned with the policy's next-phase goals; Peer Learning and Knowledge Exchange, to foster dialogue among academic leaders on institutional innovations, enabling environments, and shared challenges; and Forward Planning and Readiness, to prepare institutions for upcoming policy milestones, regulatory transitions, and the global academic landscape of 2047.
The conference will cover key aspects of higher education - teaching/ learning, research and governance through ten thematic sessions spread over the 2 days aligned with the key pillars of NEP 2020 --Equity, Accountability, Quality, Access and Affordability.
These include Understanding and Implementation of NHEQF/NCrF with focus on Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP), Future of Work - Alignment of Courses as per the requirement of future job roles, Digital Education - SWAYAM, SWAYAM Plus, AAPAR with focus on Credit Transfer.
It also includes the University Governance System - SAMARTH, Promotion of Equity in HEIs- Fostering an Inclusive and Equitable Environment.
PM Vidya Lakshmi, One Nation One Subscription - Education in Bhartiya Bhasha and Indian Knowledge System, Bhartiya Bhasa Pustak Scheme, Research and Innovation including ANRF, CoE, PMRF, Ranking and Accreditation System, Internationalisation including Study in India and Faculty Development - Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Programme.
Some of the participating institutions include the University of Delhi, Central University of Haryana, Assam University, Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Central University of Rajasthan, Central University of Kashmir, Visva-Bharati, National Sanskrit University, Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Sikkim University, Tripura University, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), University of Allahabad, and many others.
NEP 2020 lays out a clear vision for transforming India's higher education landscape by 2040. It envisions vibrant, multidisciplinary institutions that encourage inquiry, collaboration, and global engagement.
In alignment with this vision and to build synergies between different stakeholders, the Vice Chancellors' Conference is expected to generate meaningful insights, strengthen collaboration among institutions, and help chart a clear roadmap for the next phase of NEP 2020 implementation.
The outcomes of this conference will play a key role in shaping the future of higher education in India and advancing the nation's collective vision of becoming a Viksit Bharat by 2047. (ANI)

Bengaluru (Karnataka) [India], August 13 (ANI): Actor Kichcha Sudeepa has reacted to the Supreme Court's recent order to move all stray dogs in Delhi-NCR to shelters within eight weeks. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), the actor said that while he does not want to question the court's decision, which "may have its reasons," he is worried about the "well-being" of the animals and how it will affect their lives. Sudeepa shared that he has grown up around community dogs and his family has also adopted Indian breeds. He described the "love and loyalty" they bring into people's lives, adding that the dogs did not choose the streets, but humans can choose to give them a home. "The Supreme Court's decision to round up the stray dogs in Delhi NCR and to be kept in shelters permanently isn't something I wanna question as this decision may have its reasons. But it also raises serious concerns about their well-being and the impact on their lives," Sudeepa wrote. "Having grown up around community dogs, and with my family adopting Indies, I can attest to the love and loyalty they bring. They didn't choose the streets but we can choose to give them a home. We surely can be the voice for the voiceless. Kindly adopt," he continued. On August 11, a bench of Justices Pardiwala and R Mahadevan took a stern view of the stray dog menace and ordered the Delhi-NCR to start removing stray dogs from all localities within eight weeks and house them in dedicated dog shelters to be set up by civic authorities. It said that all localities should be made free of stray dogs and there should not be any compromise, while making it clear that no captured animal will be released back on the streets. It also ordered contempt proceedings against any individual or organisation that attempts to obstruct the authorities from carrying out the capture drive. The order of the top court came on a suo motu proceedings initiated by it over a media report on the growing menace of stray dog attacks leading to rabies. Terming the news report as "very disturbing and alarming", the bench had said that day the news report revealed that the elderly and children were the most affected by rabies from dog bite incidents. ‘BrahMos hai humare paas': Asaduddin Owaisi hits out at Pakistan PM's water threat
In response to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's fresh threat to India over the Indus Waters Treaty, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi warned the neighbouring country's leader that New Delhi has BrahMos, the missile. He advised Shehbaz Sharif "not to talk such nonsense". AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that 'such threats will have no effect on India'. (PTI) Shehbaz Sharif had on Tuesday said the 'enemy' would not be allowed to snatch "even one drop" of water belonging to his country. While speaking to news agency ANI, Owaisi reacted to the Pakistani PM's statement and said, 'BrahMos hai humaare paas (We have the BrahMos)... He should not talk such nonsense. Such threats will have no effect on India. Enough is enough.' India put the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance on April 23 as part of the punitive measures it took against Pakistan following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam the previous day. The terrorist attack had claimed 26 lives. Pakistan has consistently stated that any attempt to block the water flow to the country would be considered an act of war. At a ceremony in Islamabad, Sharif said, "I want to tell the enemy today that if you threaten to hold our water, then keep this in mind that you cannot snatch even one drop of Pakistan." He further said that if India attempted any such thing, "you will be again taught such a lesson that you will be left holding your ears.' Earlier, Owaisi had also sharply reacted to Pakistani army chief Asim Munir's 'nuclear' threats, saying that the language used against India is condemnable. The AIMIM president said in a post on X, "Pakistan Army Chief's threats & language against India are condemnable. That he did this from the US soil makes it worse. It deserves a Political response from the Modi government & not just the MEA statement, Government must lodge their protest and raise the issue with US strongly." Earlier on Tuesday, actor-politician Mithun Chakraborty issued a stern warning over Pakistan foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's remarks on India and the Indus treaty. Bhutto said that the diversion of the Indus river was an attack on the Pakistani "history, culture, and civilisation", particularly Sindh. He alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's planned projects on the Indus river system amounted to a direct threat to Pakistan's water security. BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty reacted to Bhutto's remark and said, "'Agar aisi baatein karte rahenge aur humari khopdi sanak gayi toh phir ek ke baad ek BrahMos chalega (If such statements continue and we lose our patience, then BrahMos missiles will be launched one after another).'

APAAR ID is now mandatory for CBSE board exam registration. Here is what you need to know about it
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has now made it mandatory for students to submit their APAAR IDs while registering for the board exams. The decision was ratified during the board's governing body meeting in June. APAAR stands for Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry. It was envisioned under the New Education Policy, 2020. Simply put, it is an identification number which is linked to enrollment, and a student's journey from pre-primary to higher education can be tracked through it. Report cards and results can be linked to it and accessed on Digilocker. The APAAR ID will be unique and remain the same through one's education journey. The government has also argued that it will put an end to fake education certificates, with students' APAAR IDs working as an authentication link. The proposal to link APAAR ID to board exam registration was part of the CBSE's Governing Body meeting in June. So far, the board required schools to send a list of candidates who will appear for the Class 10 and 12 board exams, alongside the registration details of students when they are in Classes 9 and 11. The minutes of the meeting note that there is no mechanism to link these details to any 'standardised identity system, leading to inconsistencies and lack of verifiability across databases'. 'The Ministry of Education has now mandated the adoption of APAAR IDs for all school students as part of the Digital Public Infrastructure for Education. This initiative aims to provide every student with a lifelong, universally accessible digital academic record, thereby streamlining data management and enhancing transparency in the education system,' read the minutes. After discussion, the Board decided that linkinage of student registration with APAAR ID will start in time for the 2026 board exams. 'The Committee members unanimously agreed on the proposal for linking APAAR ID with registration… and list of candidates. The chairperson… explained that the compulsory attachment of each student's APAAR ID will improve data accuracy and eliminate duplication,' the minutes said. Students or their parents will have to provide information such as name, age, date of birth, gender, photograph and Aadhaar numbers. The information will be verified using Aadhaar schools across Delhi, consent forms have been distributed over the past two years to get parents on board. Consultations and meetings have also been held with stakeholders. While registration for the APAAR ID was not meant to be mandatory initially, linking it with board exam registration can be seen as a step towards mandatory uptake. Parents have raised concerns about misuse of personal information and leaks. The government, however, has said that the information will not be accessible to anyone except those involved in educational activities or bodies such as the Unified District Information System for Education Plus or the UDISE+ database, scholarships, maintenance academic records, educational institutions and recruitment agencies.
