Form 1 students claim trial to hurting, confining classmate in school toilet
PETALING JAYA : Two Form 1 students were charged in the Sungai Petani magistrates' court today with hurting and confining a classmate in their school toilet last month.
The two 13-year-olds pleaded not guilty after the charges were read to them in Tamil before magistrate Azlan Basri, Berita Harian reported.
The students were jointly charged with voluntarily causing hurt to the victim, also 13, in the toilet of the school's Form 6 block at about 6.40pm on July 14.
In the second charge, they were jointly accused of confining the victim at the same place and time.
Deputy public prosecutor Hazwani Nor proposed bail of RM4,000 each, but their lawyer, N Nagaratnam, requested a lower sum, citing their age and cooperation with the police.
The court fixed bail at RM2,000 with one surety each, ordered them not to harass the victim, and set case mention for Sept 23.

Subsequent breaches involving violence can land the convicted perpetrator a jail term between 72 hours and two years, and a maximum fine of RM5,000.

Malaysia-registered vehicles caught smuggling contraband into Singapore
SINGAPORE: Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers foiled multiple smuggling attempts at Woodlands Checkpoint this month, uncovering thousands of cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes and chewing tobacco hidden in Malaysia-registered vehicles. In the latest case on Aug 11, ICA image analysts flagged anomalies in the scanned image of a Malaysia-registered lorry carrying bottled drinks. A detailed inspection revealed more than 4,600 cartons of duty-unpaid cigarettes concealed within the consignment. The case has been referred to Singapore Customs for investigation, the ICA Facebook post read. Just a week earlier on Aug 5, ICA officers intercepted three separate smuggling attempts involving chewing tobacco. In the first case, 565 packets were found hidden in the cabin compartment of a Malaysia-registered lorry. Shortly after, a Malaysia-registered van carrying 310 packets concealed under its rear passenger seats was stopped. Later that evening, officers uncovered 450 packets stashed in the spare tyre compartment and rear seats of a Singapore-registered car. ICA said the busts reflect its vigilance at Singapore's borders, adding that while trade and travel facilitation remains a priority, the agency will not compromise on security.

Chinese traveller to face assault charge tomorrow after KLIA officer hurt
SEPANG, Aug 17 — A visitor from China who allegedly assaulted an Immigration officer at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) last week will be charged at the Sessions Court here tomorrow. KLIA deputy police chief Superintendent Albany Hamzah said statements from five people, including the officer involved, have already been recorded. 'The Chinese woman will be charged in court tomorrow,' he was quoted as telling Malay news portal BH Online. Police are investigating her under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant, Section 332 for causing hurt to a public servant, and Section 353 for using criminal force against a public servant. Albany said the Immigration Department is also investigating the suspect's immigration record. The alleged assault was reported to have occurred on August 13 at about 7.40pm at the Departure Hall of KLIA Terminal 1. Local media reported that the suspect was with three other Chinese citizens – another adult and two children – during an immigration inspection and turned aggressive when she thought she might miss her flight.
