Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler blows up at players in the shower

Gold Coast Titans coach Des Hasler was not happy after his side fell to the Wests Tigers 21-20 on Sunday.
The Tigers trailed 20-16 with five minutes left but levelled it up when Jeral Skelton crossed in the left corner. Doueihi would miss the subsequent sideline conversion but became the hero just minutes later.
Doueihi kicked the matchwinning field goal in the dying seconds as celebrations broke out at Leichhardt Oval.
Hasler was left seething after the loss and his frustration boiled over in a fiery locker room moment that was captured on camera.
As Hasler entered the rooms to address his playing group, he was left infuriated by the sounds of the showers running.
The 64-year-old exploded into a fit of rage as he shouted at the players in the showers, forcing them to walk out and sit with the playing group.
The vision was shown on Sunday Night with Matty Johns with Bryan Fletcher making jokes at the players who were scolded.
'I think he's blowing up because they're all showering in their undies,' Bryan Fletcher quipped.
Hasler's frustration was just as evident during his post-match press conference as he lamented several 'dumb' mistakes by his playing group.
'It's really disappointing that in the second half we fumble, we bumble, we miss tackles, we throw balls over the sideline, we get carried over the sideline and we complete 9 from 15 sets.
'I'm really disappointed in that performance. It was really dumb.
'We didn't need luck. There was the scrum penalty and three knock ons that the referee missed, but I'm not going to blame the loss entirely on the referee's performance.
'We didn't help ourselves.'

Kevin Walters backed as Kangaroos rugby league coach by captain Isaah Yeo

Isaah Yeo has endorsed Kevin Walters as Australia's next coach, with the Kangaroos captain labelling the Brisbane legend a man people want to play for. Walters is expected to be announced as Mal Meninga's successor this week, with the ARL Commission (ARLC) finalising plans to unveil him ahead of this year's Ashes. It comes after Meninga was forced to step down upon taking on the Perth Bears job last month and the ARLC ruled out having a club coach in charge. Walters's appointment will mark his return to coaching after being axed by Brisbane at the end of 2024. He previously led Queensland in four State of Origin series from 2016 to 2019, winning two. Yeo has never previously worked with Walters, with his only dealings being in post-match interviews or playing against him while in charge of the Broncos, when Yeo's Panthers broke Brisbane hearts in the 2023 grand final. ABC Sport is live blogging every round of the AFL and NRL seasons in 2025. But he has spoken to a number of players about the 57-year-old, and was happy to have him take over the Kangaroos ahead of the Ashes. "You can see how much he meant to the players by talking to the Broncos' boys," Yeo said. "If it wasn't for Nathan Cleary killing it for 16 or 17 minutes, then he'd be a premiership-winning coach. Everyone I've spoken to has massive raps on him. "He's come out and said how much of an honour it'll be to be able to coach Brisbane, Queensland and his last one was going to be Australia. "I'm super excited for him. You can see how much it means to him already, and I'd love to be a part of it with him." Walters's appointment will give him just three months to prepare for the Ashes, with the first Test against England at Wembley Stadium on October 25. That short lead-in was part of former NSW coach Brad Fittler's reasoning to withdraw from the race, while also concerned about juggling media commitments. Yeo is happy the coaching questions will soon be answered, with Walters able to fully focus on the tour without worrying about a club side. "That's probably where it's gotten a little bit hard for whoever was going to come in because it's going to be rushed for them," Yeo said. "It'd be hard being an NRL coach and having to worry about a push to the finals, and then you're trying to do this stuff on top of it. "It's nice that it's all done and sealed, and we can now get to planning what will hopefully be a successful series over there. "He's been pretty busy, Kev, doing a lot with Fox [Sports] at the moment. But it certainly helps because he's now got three months to try to figure it out." Walters's appointment comes after Cameron Smith also put his hand up for the job, while the ARLC's no-club-job approach ruled out Wayne Bennett. AAP

Trainer Enver Jusufovic out to cap his best ever season with a win in Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield

Cranbourne trainer Enver Jusufovic could cap the best season of his career with another feature win in Saturday's Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes at Caulfield. Jusufovic enjoyed his maiden Group 1 triumph when Pinstriped saluted in the Memsie Stakes early in the season while he has also posted personal best win and prizemoney tallies along with achieving a superb 24 per cent winning strike rate. The trainer said his results were especially pleasing given the fact he does not have high-priced yearlings in his stable. 'The horses I've got, none of them are fashionably bred so I'm happy with the way they have performed to their best,' Jusufovic said. New York Lustre has been one of Jusufovic's biggest improvers, starting the season with only a Seymour maiden win to her name but reeled off four straight wins before running second at her first crack at Group racing in the Sir John Monash Stakes. Jusfuvoic said the mare had come a long way since she finished third on debut in a Stony Creek maiden on debut in December 2023. 'If you said to me, when I took her to Stony Creek for her first run, that this horse is a Group horse, whatever you were drinking, I'd want some,' Jusufovic said. 'It's hard to get a guide at that stage because they're still learning and still physically maturing. 'It's like a jigsaw puzzle, you slowly put the pieces together and give them every opportunity to mature and learn to race. 'Then you can assess their truest ability.' • Griffiths Racing mourns Moonee Valley legend Dandy Kid Jusufovic said New York Lustre had simply matured physically and mentally to become one of Melbourne's most promising sprinters. He said the five-year-old would be harder to beat in the Bletchingly Stakes with the aid of fitness gained from her Monash Stakes placing with top jockey Jamie Melham in the saddle. 'Jamie was of the opinion that she might have peaked on her run with 100(m) to go but she still toughed it out,' Jusufovic said. 'That's the type of mare she is. 'She's got a will to win and she won't lay down.' She knows how to win! ðŸ'¥ New York Lustre makes it 5 wins on the trot for @jusufovicracing 🗽 — (@Racing) April 26, 2025 • O'Brien star's Curragh romp shakes up Melbourne Cup market Jusufovic conceded New York Lustre's rating of 92 meant she was disadvantaged at weight-for-age against higher-rated opposition but said the Manhattan Rain mare would stand up to the challenge. 'She's come through really well from the Sir John Monash where she was quite underdone going into that race without a jumpout so she'll improve immensely from that,' Jusufovic said. 'She'll have a gallop on the grass at Cranbourne on Tuesday and she'll certainly strip fitter from that first-up run and we look forward to seeing what she can do on Saturday. 'On weights and measures, she's not really that well placed but, at her age and with her form, if you think there's upside, it's certainly worth a try to win black type for her breeding purposes.'
