Sarna dares Giani Harpreet Singh to contest Tarn Taran bypoll
Sarna said Tarn Taran was regarded as a panthic constituency and would serve as the right test of Giani Harpreet Singh's standing.
He questioned why the so-called president of the so-called political wing of a so-called party would announce in advance that he would not fight any election. "If the so-called party itself is political, how can its so-called President not be a political leader?" Sarna asked.
He pointed out that while Bibi Satwant Kaur was appointed the chairperson of the religious wing of the rebel SAD party faction, Giani Harpreet Singh heads the political faction.
"It makes sense for Bibi Satwant Kaur to declare she won't contest elections, but for the so-called president of a so-called political wing to say the same reflects a bigger political game," Sarna alleged.
According to him, even Giani Harpreet Singh's refusal to contest elections showed a political calculation, as he was aware his name could be proposed for the bypoll. "By declaring himself out of the race, he is avoiding a real test and playing the role of a student leader rather than a political head," said Sarna.
On the party's claims of inducting 1.5 lakh workers, Sarna said the byelection would reveal the truth about how much support the SAD has actually gathered. "Once the results are out, everything will be clear," he remarked.

Owners threaten to shut bars from Aug 25 over high taxes on liquor
Nagpur: Bar owners have suffered a drop in revenue since the state govt increased excise duty and VAT on liquor. Faced by financial trouble, the Vidarbha Restaurant Permit Room Sanghatana, and Nagpur District Restaurant Permit Room Association have warned that all permit rooms in Vidarbha will be closed indefinitely from August 25. In the last 10 years, the VAT burden on permit rooms has increased tremendously, with an increase from 5% to 10% last year. Additionally, there has been a 60% increase in excise duty from June 2025. As a result, the permit room business is facing a financial crisis, and the organization claims that sales have dropped by 75%. The organization has alleged that this govt decision is causing legal businesses to collapse while encouraging illegal liquor sales and smuggling. A warning has also been given that if permit rooms close, there will be a loss of Rs100 crore in revenue for the state. To present their demands to the govt, permit rooms across Maharashtra were kept closed on July 14. Demonstrations were also held at Sanvidhan Chowk. A march was also taken to the district collector's office. On August 16, the organization submitted a memorandum, giving the govt a 10-day deadline. If no meeting is held or if the decision to increase taxes is not withdrawn, intense agitation will be launched, warned president Rajiv Agrawal, secretary Navin Bavankule, joint treasurer Chetan Parekh along with prominent office bearers from Vidarbha. The organization has sent letters to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, chief secretary, and state excise commissioner. CPM channelling crores from abroad: BJP
Kozhikode: Former BJP state president K Surendran alleged that CPM has become an underworld gang, illegally channeling crores of rupees from foreign countries into Kerala. Addressing the media on Sunday, he said the revelations that CPM leaders and ministers received illegal foreign funds amounting to crores were shocking. He alleged that shell companies were created and registered in other states to funnel crores of rupees from abroad to CPM leaders. He claimed such funds had flowed in during Loka Kerala Sabha and the foreign tours of ministers and CPM leaders. Surendran alleged that party supporters themselves had demanded probes into the illegal wealth amassed by leaders and their children as well as hawala transactions. Now, the most-serious allegations are being raised directly against CPM state secretary M V Govindan. Surendran further alleged that ever since Pinarayi Vijayan govt assumed office, CPM leaders were engaging in massive financial dealings. "These are extremely serious allegations and have come from within CPM," he alleged. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
