Popular cider removed from UK supermarkets, pubs and restaurants for good
A beloved cider brand has been permanently removed from the shelves of UK supermarkets, as well as from pubs and restaurants. Jaspels, a name once synonymous with quality cider, has announced the end of its operations - with the founders explaining the reasons behind their difficult decision.
Janet and Adrian Percival, who established Jaspels in 2017, initially reached out on social media for apple donations to kick-start their venture. Janet revealed "Jaspels has sadly closed for a number of reasons" - pinpointing a problematic lease offer at their location which she believes "had a significant impact on the future planning of the business".
She continued: "That on top of seasonality challenges made it unviable in the end. A change of personal circumstances also meant we could not continue as myself and Ade separated due to stress. I left in November, and it finally closed mid-July.
"I would like to say that we loved every moment of Jaspels and will miss the barn and bar massively. We hope it will hold happy memories for you all over the 9 years it was open in Amlwch and Aberffraw. "It is very sad for the island and ourselves. Thanks for the memories.", reports Birmingham Live.
In response, a local patron expressed their disappointment: "So very sad to hear this - we have enjoyed Jaspels on so many occasion's - it was such a idyllic location and had amazing views."
Another lamented: "Such a shame. We were looking forward to visiting for our yearly Jaspels Cider fix next week. Good luck for the future."
In a glowing 5/5 TripAdvisor review, one delighted visitor raved: "Back again to sample the amazing cider and apple juice ...get yourself down there amazing experience and amazing prices definitely going back again."
A second punter echoed the sentiment, writing: "Great little place. Sat outside taking in the stunning scenery sampling the delicious cider. Will definitely return,".
Another thrilled customer gushed: "Absolutely brilliant brewery, stunning views, relaxing seating area, very friendly staff.... and of course the cider is amazing!".
One more happy holidaymaker added: "We tried the cinnamon and clove, never had this flavour before but it was lovely. Would highly recommend this place as a stop off on holiday."

Warning for anyone still using landlines in huge change affecting 137 UK areas
More than 100 towns and villages will be affected by the change. A warning has been issued to anyone still using a landline in the UK. A huge change is coming to dozens of areas across the UK that will see them stop working. Landline users have been put on alert ahead of the major shake-up, with 137 locations in Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland to be affected. The landline network is being upgraded from analogue to digital by providers, meaning that phone calls will be carried via a broadband connection rather than through copper wires, Birmingham Live reports. BT Openreach has announced the latest areas on its Stop Sell list, 137 in total. Among the Scottish locations confirmed are Annbank, Lockerbie, Eskdalemuir, Hawick, Pencaitland, and Ulva Ferry. Openreach's managed customer migrations manager, James Lilley, said that move is "critical" to keep the UK communications network ready for the future. He said there was a focus on getting people across the UK using "newer, future-proofed technologies" due to the "decline" in the copper wire system. Lilley said: "The Stop Sell programme is a critical part of ensuring that the UK's communication infrastructure is ready to meet the demands of the future. "Taking advantage of the progress of our Full Fibre build and encouraging people to upgrade where a majority can access our new network is the right thing to do. "It makes no sense, both operationally and commercially, to keep the old copper network and our new fibre network running side-by-side. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! "As copper's ability to support modern communications declines, the immediate focus is getting people onto newer, future-proofed technologies." The full fibre upgrade is triggered when users switch service providers or upgrade their broadband or phone service. Certain providers may also move blocks of consumers in some areas to full fibre. This will help them with qualifying for volume discounts and as they find that the reliability of full fibre reduces support costs once the upgrade is live. Castell Coffi known for Welsh cakes nominated for award
Castell Coffi, owned by Ian and Leigh Crawford, in Caldicot, has been nominated for the Best of Welsh Business Awards in the South East Wales section. The ceremony will take place at Maes Manor, in Blackwood, on September 7, and customers can vote for their favourite. Owner Ian Crawford said: "Well, it's about time these Welsh cakes won something! "Please vote on the link for us if you have a minute. "We have plans to brand our Welsh cakes as people are going nuts over them. "I always knew my mother's recipe would be popular but they sell out every day and there are times during the day when people are buying them in advance because I can't cook them fast enough." Castell Coffi, situated in Caldicot Business Park, has gained fame for its homemade Welsh cakes made from a family recipe. Since opening earlier this year, the shop has attracted customers from across the country. It has also become a "celebrity hotspot", with renowned visitors such as actor and director Mackenzie Crook and comedian Omid Djalili. The shop was recently voted the best coffee shop in Gwent on TripAdvisor. It is open on weekdays from 9am to 4pm, serving coffee, homemade Welsh cakes, toasties, paninis, fresh sandwiches, and cakes. One reviewer said: "Fabulous coffee shop catering largely for local workers. "Really friendly staff, great coffee, but omg, those Welsh cakes. "Heavenly."
