Popular cider pulled from UK shelves, pubs and restaurants after nearly a decade
The cider brand has announced it has ceased operation, with the owners detailing the main reasons for closure A beloved cider brand has been permanently withdrawn from UK supermarkets, pubs, and eateries after nearly 10 years on the market, with the proprietors explaining the key factors behind their decision which has left customers "saddened". Jaspels, launched by Janet and Adrian Percival in 2017, has ceased trading. The couple initially reached out on social media for contributions of apples to kickstart their venture, which went on to bag several awards. The cider was made from locally sourced apples on the island of Anglesey in Wales, and was produced onsite along with a shop and bar. Janet said Jaspels had "sadly closed for a number of reasons," reports Birmingham Live. She pinpointed first and foremost the lease length offered at their location which she believed had a "significant impact on the future planning of the business". She continued: "That on top of seasonality challenges made it unviable in the end. A change of personal circumstances also meant we could not continue as myself and Ade separated due to stress. "I left in November, and it finally closed mid-July. "I would like to say that we loved every moment of Jaspels and will miss the barn and bar massively. We hope it will hold happy memories for you all over the nine years it was open in Amlwch and Aberffraw. "It is very sad for the island and ourselves. Thanks for the memories." A local patron expressed their disappointment in response, writing: "So very sad to hear this - we have enjoyed Jaspels on so many occasion's - it was such a idyllic location and had amazing views." Another lamented: "Such a shame. We were looking forward to visiting for our yearly Jaspels Cider fix next week. Good luck for the future." The craft cider had enjoyed glowing 5/5 reviews on TripAdvisor, with many making reference to the quality of the cider and the decent price point which saw many happy customers returning time and time again. One customer enthused: "Back again to sample the amazing cider and apple juice... get yourself down there amazing experience and amazing prices definitely going back again." Echoing the sentiment, another visitor remarked: "Great little place. Sat outside taking in the stunning scenery sampling the delicious cider. Will definitely return". One more customer praised: "Absolutely brilliant brewery, stunning views, relaxing seating area, very friendly staff.... and of course the cider is amazing!" They continued their commendation, saying: "We tried the cinnamon and clove, never had this flavour before but it was lovely. Would highly recommend this place as a stop off on holiday."
