Starbucks reveals Secret Menu plus a new $25K drink contest
The premium coffee chain has long had what it calls a "Not-So-Secret Menu" broadcast channel on Instagram, where concoctions not listed on the official menu were shared with devotees. (Last check it had more than 151,000 members.)
Starbucks wants to make it easier for you to find those new drink hacks, so special customized drinks will now appear in the Starbucks app. Members of the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program will be able to find them under the 'Offers' tab. You can select the drink and it will be prepared with all the options listed, at participating stores, the company announced Monday, July 14, in a press release.
Not just McDonald's: Here's where else you can get chicken wraps
More choices seems like a win-win for Starbucks patrons, even though the Secret Menu's reveal comes just a few months after CEO Brian Niccol made changes to simplify the Starbucks menu, especially trimming back the Frappuccino options.
Since the removal of those "less popular" drinks, some new Strato Frappuccino Blended Beverages were added to the menu on July 8.
Starbucks Secret Menu Contest
To jump-start the unveiling of the Secret Menu, Starbucks has a contest this week to find a new favorite new drink. You can submit your customized beverage from Monday, July 14, through Sunday, July 20 on the Secret Menu Contest page. The top four drinks will be voted on August 18-20 on the Starbucks Instagram page.
The four finalists will each win $5,000 and their drinks will also be on the Secret Menu from August 18-25. The Grand Prize winner gets an additional $25,000.
Starbucks drinks: Here's some new hacks
To kick off the more-public launch of the Secret Menu, four new drink customizations are now featured in the Starbucks app:

Dog Who Won't Let Owners Hug Without Him Melts Hearts
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. A borzoi dog has melted hearts on social media after a video of the canine trying to squeeze into all of their owner's hugs went viral. The heartwarming post shared on Instagram on Monday under the username @oliversophiezoi shows a series of clips of the pup trying to get included in each of their owners' hugs. "Soulmated so hard our dog must join in every hug," reads layover text in the clip. The caption says: "What in the world did we do to deserve dogs?!?" While the pup in the clip is clearly asking to be hugged, most dogs actually do not enjoy this type of physical affection. Vet Help Direct says that, for dogs, being hugged can feel like restraint, triggering a "fight or flight" response due to the stress it causes them. Dogs may feel trapped in a hug, and this can lead to defensive biting—often to the face, especially when the hug involves close contact. This risk makes it particularly important to teach children not to hug or physically restrain dogs. A study on canine stress signals found that about 81 percent of dogs showed signs of discomfort during a hug, such as turning their heads away, freezing, licking lips, yawning, flattening ears, or exposing the whites of their eyes. Only 8 percent of pups seemed to enjoy the hug, while 11 percent appeared indifferent to it. Personality and past experiences also play a role; in fact, dogs with a history of anxiety or poor socialization may react more negatively than others. Despite their dislike for hugging, canines do enjoy affection on their own terms. Many pups like being petted, or snuggling with their owners, as long as they are free to move away. Observing their body language is key to understanding their comfort levels. Stock image: A big, white dog joins in a couple's hug. One user, Atlasfluffle, commented: "I agree. Parents are not allowed to hug without me." posted: "Our Azalea the same, no hugs without zoi! It's a sacred rule." Peter_and_annie_ added: "Omg this is so precious!" Newsweek reached out to @oliversophiezoi for comment via Instagram comments. We could not verify the details of the case. Jason Momoa looks completely unrecognizable after shaving his beard
Jason Momoa is known for so much -- he's Aquaman! He's Garrett in A Minecraft Movie! He's Duncan Idaho in Dune and Khal Drogo in Game of Thrones. But there's also that beard. That glorious facial hair is his calling card, the thing that tells us it's Jason Momoa underneath all that. But in a recent video posted to Instagram, he shaves that thing off... and man, I think he looks unrecognizable. Why'd he do it for the first time in six years? It's simple: He's spreading the word on eliminating single-use plastics with a water company. Good job there, Jason. Here's the video: And the finished product: WOW!
