The meeting was attended by senior police officers, including inspector generals and superintendents of police. "Statewide crackdown on illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ILP violations. A district task force will be immediately constituted in every district to carry out detection of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants and ensure strict enforcement of the Inner Line Permit regime," Mithi said. Amit Shah Made Clear Southern States' Concerns On Delimitation Will Be Taken Care Of: MHA

Agency: PTI Last Updated: A spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said this on Thursday, a day after TN CM M K Stalin expressed concern over the Census-linked delimitation exercise Union Home Minister Amit Shah has made it clear on several occasions that in the delimitation exercise, concerns of the southern states will be taken care of and discussed with all concerned at appropriate time. A spokesperson of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said this on Thursday, a day after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed concern over the Census-linked delimitation exercise. 'The Honourable Home Minister has made it clear on several occasions that in the delimitation exercise, concerns of southern states will be taken care of and discussed with all concerned at appropriate time," the spokesperson said. The Census was supposed to be conducted in 2021 and all the preparations for the exercise were completed but it was postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. The spokesperson said the aftershock of COVID-19 continued for quite some time and it caused disruptions in all sectors, including education. Around 30 lakh enumerators are required for conducting the Census. Enumerators, who are primary school teachers, are key persons for conducting the exercise. Conducting the Census in the aftermath of COVID-19 'could have disrupted primary education immensely". 'Countries which conducted Census immediately after COVID-19 faced issues on quality and coverage of Census data," the spokesperson said. The government has decided to commence the process of the Census forthwith and it will complete on March 1, 2027, the reference date for the Census. The spokesperson also said that budget has never been a constraint for conducting the Census as allocation of funds is always ensured by the government. India's 16th Census with caste enumeration will be carried out in 2027 with the reference date of October 1, 2026, in snow-bound areas like Ladakh and of March 1, 2027, in the rest of the country. It has been decided to conduct the Population Census-2027 in two phases, along with the enumeration of castes, the MHA announced on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin wrote on X that the Indian Constitution mandates that delimitation must follow the first Census after 2026 and the BJP has now 'delayed" the Census to 2027, 'making their plan clear to reduce" Tamil Nadu's parliamentary representation. 'I had warned about this. It is now unfolding. the BJP, Palaniswami is not just silent but complicit in this betrayal. It's now clear that he has surrendered to Delhi's domination. 'The people of Tamil Nadu are united as one in their demand for a Fair Delimitation. We need clear answers from the Union Government," Stalin said. Six Nepalese flyers held for using fake Gulf job permits

Mumbai: Six Nepali nationals allegedly attempting to travel to Qatar and the UAE using counterfeit foreign employment permits (FEP), supposedly issued by Nepal Embassy in New Delhi, were held at the Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday. Between May 26 and June 4, a total of 16 Nepali nationals were detained after paying Rs 2.5 lakh each to various agents in Nepal for overseas employment opportunities. Sahar police reported that in the two most recent cases filed on Wednesday, the agents facilitated legal travel arrangements for the six detained individuals to reach Mumbai Airport, unlike previous incidents. Immigration officials on Wednesday intercepted the accused who were head to the Gulf countries for roles such as drivers, packers, stewards and waiters, using fraudulent FEPs. The officials first stopped Arun Pandit, aged 47, who had travelled via Bagdogara Airport in West Bengal on June 3 to Mumbai, before attempting to board a Doha-bound flight on Wednesday. "However, the officials found Pandit's Nepali passport forged and the passport was issued in the name of Niraj Madai. Further inspection the officials found the FEP too was fake," said the Sahar police. Subsequently, authorities arrested five individuals who had travelled to Mumbai Airport through legal channels: Rohan Tamang (20), Roshan Thakur (25), Shamad Rain (27), Sanjay Mukhiya (21), and Madan Tharu (31). Despite their legal entry, their FEPs were discovered to be fraudulent. A police officer explained that following last week's detention of 10 Nepali citizens at Mumbai International airport, who had illegally entered India through Bihar and attempted travel to Doha and UAE using fake permits, Nepali agents altered their strategy to include legal transit. Nevertheless, this new approach proved unsuccessful. "Previously, agents would arrange for job seekers to cross Bihar borders by road, then fly from Patna to Mumbai before attempting travel to Doha or UAE. Investigations revealed that in all instances, the travellers had paid Rs2.5 lakhs to their agent."
