NEW DELHI: As cricket fever grips the nation, Mohali Police have rolled out an elaborate traffic and crowd management plan in anticipation of the
Indian Premier League
(IPL) 2025 showdown between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
The high-stakes clash is scheduled for Thursday, May 29, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, with the match set to begin at 7.30pm.
A massive turnout is expected for the event, prompting authorities to implement stringent measures to avoid disruptions to normal traffic patterns and ensure public safety.
According to the revised IPL schedule, Mullanpur will play host to two crucial fixtures — the Qualifier 1 on Thursday and the Eliminator on Friday.
The remaining playoff matches, Qualifier 2 and the Final, will be held in Ahmedabad on June 1 and 3, respectively. Given the significance of the matches, fans from all over the country are expected to flock to the stadium.
To accommodate the influx of spectators, the Mohali Police have devised a detailed route plan to facilitate smooth traffic movement in the city.
Route directions
From Dakshin Marg:
Spectators traveling via Dakshin Marg should turn left towards Baddi-Kurali Road and then merge onto PR-7 (Airport Road) near Omaxe Ship. From there, they need to turn left towards Stadium Road. As an alternative, they can also take the route through Eco City 1 via PR-6 to reach Stadium Road.
From Airport Road:
Those coming from Airport Road should turn right from PR-7 Road directly to Stadium Road.
From PGI/Madhya Marg:
Fans traveling from the PGI or Madhya Marg area can access Stadium Road via PR-7 (Airport Road). An alternative route is also available through Eco City 1 via PR-6 to Stadium Road, which may help ease congestion.
Parking information
Public parking has been arranged at designated lots—P4, P5, and P6.
The charges are set at Rs 200 for four-wheelers and Rs 100 for two-wheelers, ensuring ample space and organization for the large number of vehicles expected.
Tight security deployment to ensure safety during IPL matches
Speaking on the preparations, Punjab Special DGP Arpit Shukla said, "Tomorrow and the day after that, two important IPL matches are going to be held in the Mullanpur Stadium (Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium).
People from across the country will be coming for the matches. Proper arrangements have been made."
A strong police presence will be maintained in and around the stadium to uphold law and order throughout the event. "64 gazetted officers and nearly 2500 police personnel will be on duty inside and outside the stadium, and also throughout the city to ensure a good law and order situation," Shukla added.
"We will ensure that those who are coming do not face any kind of trouble. On the other hand, the security measures will be very strict. Yesterday, we had a rehearsal of the mockdrill. Today also the police force is rehearsing the mockdrill," he stated.
With elaborate security measures and traffic plans in place, authorities aim to ensure a safe and smooth experience for all cricket fans attending the matches in Mullanpur.
