
Savvy dog owner swaps supermarket dog food to save over £200
As a dedicated owner of two rescue Staffie crosses, Phoebe and Frank, devoted dog mum Beth knows that keeping them well fed is her number on priority. Recently faced with a difficult choice, Beth made a tough decision that turned out to be one of her best yet.
Already concerned that the price of their regular dog food was gradually rising, Beth saw that Phoebe, the pickier eater, was starting showing less interest in her meals. She said: "After comparing various brands based on cost, nutritional value and customer feedback, we finally decided to change their diet, opting for a subscription of Forthglade's Lightly Baked Lamb Kibble, which has been a blessing for several reasons."
The dry food subscription offers options of 2kg, 6kg, 12kg, and 18kg bags. Although prices vary depending on the flavour, the lamb variety starts at £12.59, reduced from £13.99.
Beth explained: "We opt for the 12kg option as it lasts us exactly four weeks. If you have a smaller dog, the same 12kg could last significantly longer - potentially eight to 12 weeks depending on size, resulting in additional savings," according to the Mirror.
Every month, two 6kg bags of nutritionally balanced kibble are delivered directly to her house with free next-day delivery. Happy with the service, Beth added: "I particularly value the convenience of receiving two 6kg bags instead of a single 12kg bag, as it's easier to manage and helps keep the food fresh."
The subscription is set at £62.99, a markdown from the usual £69.99, already offering savings as Beth claims that her previous food expenditure was £80 per month. In total, she is saving around £17 each month, which amounts to saving over £200 annually, and that's before taking into account the exclusive subscriber perks.
Speaking of more reasons to switch to Forthglade, Beth explained: "I bagged a significant discount on my initial order, shelling out less than £50 for the first month. Subsequently, with each renewal of our subscription, we've racked up 'rewards', and currently have roughly £8 in our account that we can choose to subtract from a future order.
"I could opt to make one month slightly cheaper, or hoard my credits until I have enough for a 'free' bag."
Forthglade isn't the only brand providing subscription services for their food. Elsewhere, Marleybones is offering new customers 30% off their trial selection boxes, while Butternut Box is offering 25% off the first two boxes for owners in similar subscription schemes.
Beth said: "One feature I particularly appreciate about the Forthglade subscription is its adaptability. We're due to go on holiday soon and our order would have arrived whilst we were away, so we simply delayed our delivery by two weeks with a few clicks.
"No phone calls, no fuss, just a straightforward online adjustment. Even better, it was dispatched three hours later and arrived the following afternoon, with next day delivery included as standard."
Seeking even more convenience, Beth decided to tweak her subscription slightly because her orders were always placed on a Saturday, resulting in Monday deliveries. Since making the change, her deliveries now arrive on Thursdays, which is much more convenient for her household.
She added: "The service is remarkably flexible, allowing us to easily skip, pause, or delay orders. Forthglade also sends reminders before dispatching orders, and with no contract to tie us down, we can cancel at any time if needed.
"But what really matters is whether Phoebe and Frank enjoy their meals, and I'm delighted to report they've been wolfing down their food - the lamb variety has become a firm favourite after years of eating chicken kibble."
Other pet owners on Trustpilot share the enthusiasm, with Forthglade boasting a 4.6-star rating. One reviewer said: "The website is helpful for allowing you to make choices. "Plus, I've frequently ordered their treats and wet food from there too, so now everything arrives simultaneously."

However, if you're good at saving (and waiting!), it could be worth it in the end – and, of course, you're ensuring all your beauty empties get properly recycled. 'I've driven electric vehicles for years, but they're a challenge on the motorway'
Peter Greaves, who goes by the name Petrol Ped online, has been driving electric vehicles for six years and has noticed a few things have changed during that time Whether it's for environmental concerns or to slash running expenses, there's a multitude of motivations driving people towards electric vehicles. One individual with extensive experience behind the wheel of both electric and petrol motors is Peter Greaves, known online as Petrol Ped. The automotive content creator has tested numerous electric cars throughout the years and has spotted one major transformation since his inaugural EV drive six years back. It comes after news anyone buying fuel next week given '£15 charge' warning by The AA. "The biggest and most obvious thing that's changed in the six years since I first drove an EV vehicle is the infrastructure has improved, although it still has a way to go," he told the Mirror. I guess the flip side of that is there are also more EVs on the road. "In the early days, you would turn up to a charger and there probably wouldn't be anybody else around and you could just plug in. The challenge then was that it might not work. Nowadays your challenge is you turn up to plug in and there's already a car there charging. That can really throw a spanner in the works on a long journey. But it is getting better," explains Peter. This development follows Keir Starmer's reinstatement of the 2030 prohibition on new petrol and diesel car sales during a major address earlier this year. The UK has set itself a goal of installing 300,000 charging points by 2030, ensuring that motorists unable to charge at home can access public EV chargers at various venues including supermarkets, cinemas and roadside locations. Nevertheless, public charging typically costs considerably more than home charging. "I can remember when I first started reviewing EVs, I might have been paying 20 or 30 pence per kilowatt hour on an ultra rapid charger. Now you could be paying 80, 90 pence, maybe even a pound per kilowatt hour. When you're charging in public then the costs go up significantly," said Peter. "If you are lucky enough to be able to park off-street and have your own charger at home, then running an EV is a completely different proposition. Every morning you wake up and you'll have charged your car overnight with a cheap rate electric tariff – if you've managed to plan that in with your provider – and you've got a full tank of battery charge and off you go. For most journeys, you're not going to exceed the range of the car each day. I didn't plug into public charging in nine months when I had an electric car." Peter highlighted the financial hurdles of embracing electric vehicles, pointing out that only recently have more affordable family-sized EVs entered the market. "It's only really within the last couple of years with the entrance of some brands bringing cars to market that are a family-sized car for £20,000 to £30,000, whereas the traditional luxury brands, their equivalent size cars would maybe be £50,000 to £70,000. So there's an initial barrier to entry for a new car," he explained. He also addressed concerns about the longevity and replacement costs of EV batteries, which are often based on misinformation. "With used cars, people worry about whether the battery is going to be OK, and if it's not they worry about how much it will cost to replace it. The challenge with that is normally based on things that aren't necessarily factually accurate, they've read something on social media about batteries losing all of their energy after two years, needing replacing and costing £20,000. That's actually not born out in reality." For those considering a second-hand electric vehicle, Peter suggests that there are excellent opportunities available, thanks to the durability of EV batteries: "One of the things we are seeing is batteries lasting a lot longer than even the manufacturers thought. You can run an EV for five years and still have maybe 85-90% of the battery capacity left, which is still going to give you sort of 80-90% of the range that you would have had when that was a new car." He concluded with a tip for potential buyers, hinting at the current value in the pre-owned EV market: "These second-hand EVs actually at the moment, there's some mega bargains to be had."

Brits warned to change up passwords as hacker reveals 10 most common phrases
It can take under three minutes for hackers to discover a password online. With technology and the internet becoming an everyday part of people's lives, whether it be social media, online shopping, streaming sites or browsing the web, many of us have a variety of passwords we use for different accounts. Now while many sites have password requirements new users need to meet - such as length, numbers, punctuation and capital letters - many of us are guilty of using the same or easy phrases for different accounts. Well for those in need of a wake up call about the dangers of using simple passwords, a professional ethical hacker has shared how easy it is for cyber crooks to discover their new victim's password and take over their account. In fact, many can do it in under three minutes. Ethical hacker Brandyn Murtagh provides his expertise to companies to help identify and address digital security weakness, reports the Mirror. By utilising solely publicly accessible breaches, Brandyn left volunteers shocked as he was able to easily uncover their passwords - even ones they were using at the time. However he didn't stop there, as he was able to expose a variety of personal information including mobile numbers, home address and even more worryingly the locations they had recently been too. These are all forms of data that cyber crooks regularly exploit to gain access to more accounts and commit fraud. After shocking the volunteers with how much data he was able to acquire, Brandyn went on to give crucial advice for creating new passwords. He advised that account users should never reuse an identical password and should always employ a minimum of 14 characters with random phrases. On top of this, he recommends activating two-factor authentication whenever it is possible. The latest company the professional hacker has joined up with is Virgin Media O2. The firm requested his help to promote safer password security this summer after research conducted by the company showed that more than one in 20 Brits use the word 'password' as a password. On top of this, the survey also highlighted that of 2,000 adults, the same amount (seven per cent) use 'password1' as a regular login. Director of fraud at Virgin Media O2 Murray Mackenzie said: "We're seeing a trend where, despite people worrying about online threats, weak and short passwords are putting them at risk. "That's why we're lifting the lid on how easy it is for cybercriminals with the right know-how to get their hands on your data and passwords online - and providing quick, simple steps to help people protect themselves." The research also showed that despite scams and hacks being at an all-time high, six in 10 adults admitted to using basic passwords while online. In terms of repeating passwords across multiple sites, 45 per cent of respondents shared that they rely on a 'trusted' phrase even though they know it's wrong. However, a further 11 per cent of people declared they didn't see the harm in using their predictable password. The research also discovered that a high number of people use personal information in their passwords, including children's or pet names (27 per cent) or their own date of birth (14 per cent). By doing so, online users are basically spoon feeding hackers their personal information. Many respondents also admitted that they viewed changing passwords as a hassle, with 27 per cent sharing they have never altered their email account password, while 35 per cent haven't bothered to update the combination to their bank account. Additionally, of the 37 per cent of Brits that have fallen victim to online breaches, only 26 per cent of them changed their password to something different. Murray Mackenzie added: "We're working tirelessly to keep customers safe from cybercriminals – blocking millions of fraudulent texts, malware and spyware, and flagging harmful websites and suspicious calls. "But with bad actors stopping at nothing to access your accounts, we all need to take action to stay safe online from fraud.
