Loanees make cases for Swans future after season away
While the end of Swansea City's season prompts speculation as to which new players could arrive, there is also a batch of players who will return.Head coach Alan Sheehan could benefit from several Swans who have spent the 2024-25 season getting their games elsewhere.Swansea had a string of players out on loan last term, some of whom could yet figure in the senior side's plans going forward. The most high-profile of the batch was striker Jerry Yates, who is due to rejoin the squad for pre-season after a successful spell at Derby County.Rams boss John Eustace admitted the 28-year-old's future would be a summer conversation to be had, after 10 goals and four assists helped the Pride Park club stay in the Championship. And it remains to be seen whether Swansea would look to keep the player, who has a year remaining on the deal he signed when arriving from Blackpool in 2023.Likewise, Ukrainian forward Mykola Kuharevich also has a year to run on his deal in south Wales having spent last term at Hibernian.Despite a lengthy injury lay-off over the winter, the 23-year-old has hit five goals in 24 Scottish Premier League (SPL) appearances during his time in Scotland, with Hibs close to sealing European football next year.He has recently admitted his future is unclear but was keen to helping the club earn a third-placed SPL finish as a farewell.
Goalkeeper Andy Fisher – who fell behind Lawrence Vigouroux in the Swansea pecking order after getting injured in pre-season – has also played regular games in Scotland, featuring 17 times for St Johnstone and catching the eye in a shock win over Celtic that threatens to take their survival battle to the final weekend.Fisher, 27, also has a year remaining on his Swansea contract, as does 23-year-old stopper Nathan Broome who left for Port Vale in January. He did not make a league appearance, but was a regular back-up as Darren Moore's side won promotion from League Two.Meanwhile, midfielder Joel Cotterill caught the eye in the same division for Swindon Town, winning the club's goal of the season for a 30-yard effort against Port Vale. The 20-year-old Wales age-grade international was a key man in the Robins' turnaround in form under Ian Holloway and is being tipped to fight for first-team contention when he returns to Swansea.Fellow academy graduate Cameron Congreve, 21 (pictured above), also impressed in League Two with 40 outings for Bromley, scoring five – including one against Newcastle United in the FA Cup. He is said to have gained much from his first regular season, with his performances leading to a new deal with the Swans in March.

Belgium v Wales: World Cup 2026 qualifier
Update: Date: 2025-06-09T17:45:47.000Z Title: Preamble Content: If Wales are to qualify for the men's World Cup for just the third time in their history, getting something from this crucial qualifier will likely be a huge reason why. Despite a poor start to Belgium's campaign – a 1-1 draw with North Macedonia, their only game to date – Rudi Garcia's side are the overwhelming favourites to top Group J and claim the only automatic qualification spot. In a group also containing Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein, can a team that contains Kevin De Bruyne, Youri Tielemans, Romelu Lukaku and Jérémy Doku really manage to mess this up? Wales will be hoping the answer is yes. Craig Bellamy's side have made a good start to their campaign, drawing away at North Macedonia and beating Kazakhstan and Liechtenstein. A draw or a win in Brussels tonight would be an epic achievement but not completely off the cards. It has happened before and it can happen again, the spirit of Hal Robson-Kanu in 2016 looms large. Kick-off: 7.45pm BST.

Spurs close in on Thomas Frank after making official approach to Brentford
Tottenham have made an official approach to Brentford over making Thomas Frank their next head coach, the PA news agency understands. Spurs sacked Ange Postecoglou on Friday, despite Europa League success, and quickly set their sights on Frank – who has gained admirers for his work over an impressive seven-year period at the west London club. Advertisement After positive initial talks over the weekend, confidence started to grow on Monday morning that Frank would be the man to replace Postecoglou and Tottenham have now entered discussions with Brentford, PA understands. Following a review of performances and after significant reflection, the Club can announce that Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties. — Tottenham Hotspur (@SpursOfficial) June 6, 2025 Frank's current deal with the Bees runs until the summer of 2027 and contains a release clause reported to be in the region of £10million. Brentford are eager to hold out for Frank's release clause, but they have started talks with Spurs over a compensation package which would soften the blow of losing the highly-rated Dane. The 51-year-old would take over a Spurs side which won the Europa League last month but finished 17th in the Premier League. Advertisement Poor domestic form during the 2024-25 season cost Postecoglou his job as the Spurs board was forced to make 'one of the toughest decisions' it has had to make in dismissing the head coach who ended a 17-year trophy drought. 'It is crucial that we are able to compete on multiple fronts and believe a change of approach will give us the strongest chance for the coming season and beyond,' a club statement on Friday read. PA understands Tottenham have also relieved coaches Mile Jedinak, Nick Montgomery and Sergio Raimundo of their duties. View this post on Instagram A post shared by West Bromwich Albion (@wba) Ryan Mason left his role as Spurs first-team coach last week to take over as West Brom boss, which opens the door for Frank to bring in some of his own staff – with current Brentford assistant Claus Norgaard a long-term ally. Advertisement PA understands another departure from Spurs this summer will be Scott Munn, who was made chief football officer at the club in 2023. Tottenham technical director Johan Lange has remained in post and is set to renew allegiances with compatriot Frank. Frank and Lange worked together at Danish club Lyngby before they both made their marks in the Premier League. Lange attempted to bring Frank to Aston Villa in 2022 when he worked at the midlands outfit. Advertisement Former Brondby boss Frank has developed a strong reputation in English football since he took over Brentford, with his tactical nous and man-management skills often lauded by rival managers and pundits. After Frank guided Brentford to promotion in 2021, he quickly enabled them to compete strongly in the Premier League despite a modest budget and has been linked to a number of high-profile vacancies in recent years.
