Ex-Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson drops 2-word message to fans after receiving SB ring

Yahoo7 days ago
Shortly after winning Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles surprisingly unloaded starting safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson in a trade with the Houston Texans.
The always candid CJGJ reacted as you might expect, stating this off-season that the Eagles are 'scared of a competitor' and would never win another championship without him.
Gardner-Johnson recently apologized to his former teammates for those comments during a sit-down interview with ESPN's Ryan Clark. The organization was unfazed, as CJGJ was in attendance for the Eagles' Super Bowl ring ceremony on Friday night.
CJGJ posted a photo of his ring with a celebratory two-word message — 'Hi haters 😮‍💨' — to fans on his social media.
MORE:
Gardner-Johnson has never been shy about using his social accounts or the media to speak his mind. He unleashed a pretty epic rant after Philly's Week 3 win over the Saints last season, calling his former team 'pretenders' and mocking their 2-0 start. He also mocked Travis Kelce, Taylor Swift and 'Swifties' after the Eagles' blowout win over the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX, doubling down with a custom hoodie during Philly's championship parade. Some of those antics probably make people forget that Gardner-Johnson piled up six interceptions for the No. 1 ranked Eagles defense in 2024.
The Eagles were clearly ready to move on after the Super Bowl, moving CJGJ under the guise of 'salary cap savings.' Still, it was a good look for everyone to have CJGJ in attendance on Friday night, and no one can take away his 2024 Super Bowl ring.

Harper and Schwarber spark the Phillies to a 9-4 win over the reeling Yankees, who await Judge news

NEW YORK (AP) — Bryce Harper homered deep into the right-field bleachers and Kyle Schwarber hit a two-run double after New York's 10th error in five games, sparking the Philadelphia Phillies to a 9-4 win Saturday as the reeling Yankees awaited test rests on the right elbow of captain Aaron Judge. Trea Turner drove in two runs and Edmundo Sosa also homered for the Phillies, who opened a 9-1 lead. Philadelphia started the day a half-game behind the NL East-leading New York Mets. Schwarber had six RBIs and Turner was 6 for 11 as Philadelphia outscored New York 21-9 in the first two games of the three-game series. Ranger Suárez (8-4) allowed one run and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one walk, throwing a season-high 108 pitches. Judge was out of the Yankees' starting lineup for just the second time this season. His elbow has been bothering him since a throw Tuesday at Toronto, and manager Aaron Boone said the two-time AL MVP was sent for a scan Saturday morning. New York began the day a season-high 5 1/2 games behind AL East-leading Toronto and dropped to 3-5 since the All-Star break. Schwarber doubled after second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. bobbled Turner's potential inning-ending, double-play grounder in the seventh, Chisholm's 12th error this season. Ryan McMahon went 1 for 3 with a walk in his Yankees debut, a day after the third baseman was acquired from Colorado for a pair of pitching prospects. Marcus Stroman (2-2) allowed four runs, five hits and four walks in 3 2/3 innings. Sosa hit a two-run homer in the seventh off Allan Winans and Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run drive against Daniel Robert in the bottom half. Key plays Sosa left with a bruised back after the third baseman was elbowed by left fielder Brandon Marsh in a collision while catching Chisholm's seventh-inning popup. Key stat New York is 21-28 following a 35-20 start. Up next New York LHP Carlos Rodón (10-7, 3.10) and Philadelphia RHP Zack Wheeler (9-3, 2.39) start Sunday's series finale. ___ AP MLB:

San Diego Comic-Con attendee taken away in ambulance after suffering medical emergency

A convention staff member told EW that someone suffered an emergency near the escalators at the entrance to the San Diego Convention Center. A 2025 Comic-Con attendee was taken away in an ambulance after suffering a medical emergency inside the San Diego Convention Center on Saturday. An Entertainment Weekly reporter at the scene was informed by a convention staff member that 'someone' suffered an emergency near the escalators at the convention entrance, but would not disclose any additional information about what occurred or their condition. The individual was subsequently taken away on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance, which left the scene just after noon PT. Video footage from the event taken by EW shows a growing crowd surrounding the convention center entrance, with the ambulance parked out front. As a result, entrance to the convention center was briefly paused on Saturday in order to allow emergency services to pull up to the front of the building and aid the individual. Attendees were allowed to enter the convention shortly after the ambulance departed. The incident comes just one day after a confusing fire alarm announcement rang out near Hall H and Ballroom 20, despite no alarm actually being heard. Security notified attendees during a Dexter: Resurrection panel to 'remain calm' and await further instructions. "I'm not calm," moderator Jamie Chung said, to which star Michael C. Hall replied, "Thank God Dexter's with us." Outside of general confusion from the crowd — and a brief delay from one Hall H panel to the next — the fire alarm did not cause any major disruption on Friday. Check out more of . He entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent in 2024, signing with the Jaguars. He tore an ACL in Organized Team Activities with the Jaguars last spring and never played for Jacksonville. Akharaiyi is an undrafted free agent who played at Mississippi State in 2024. During his lone season with the Bulldogs, Akharaiyi appeared in 11 games and totaled 25 receptions for 391 yards and two touchdowns. He spent 2022-23 with UTEP and had 69 receptions for 1,308 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 24 games.
