In Hollywood, some actors have reputations for being great to work with, and others… do not. Samuel L. Jackson, according to most accounts, is one of the good ones. He says he really tries to be nice to everybody on the movie set, too, because doing so is easy, and because he knows there's a possibility he'll get paid back for it later.
In a video posted to Instagram by Masterclass, Jackson relays a sign that he saw while working on Die Hard With A Vengeance. The film was one of the actor's biggest roles at the time, a co-lead alongside Bruce Willis, and he says there was a poster on the wall in the office that he took to heart. He explained…
I remember there was a sign on the wall in the Die Hard office that I never forgot that said 'Be careful of the toes you step on today, for they could be connected to the ass you have to kiss tomorrow.' So I've been nice to PAs to everybody and everything else. And some of those PAs became producers and gave me jobs.
It's an idea that we've certainly all heard before, but I've never heard it put quite this way. While there's a bit of a self-serving nature to it all, it doesn't mean you can't be genuinely nice to other people. It's a lesson we can all learn that being nice is often just easier, it never hurts, and it might help.
There have been those times when actors and crew haven't always gotten along. Christian Bale once famously berated somebody on the set of Terminator: Salvation. Hugh Grant has admitted to losing his temper in a similar fashion. Tom Cruise famously laid into some of the crew of Mission: Impossible for violating pandemic protocols.
While these may have all been outliers for the actors, the fact that we know about them says something, and can certainly change the perception of a performer. Having a reputation as an actor who's great to work with is always ideal.
Samuel L. Jackson says following this simple rule has absolutely come back to him as he's gotten jobs from producers that liked him because he was nice to them when they were much lower on the org chart. The beloved Die Hard sequel was a big role for the actor, but Samuel L. Jackson's best roles would all come later. He likely took this lesson to heart at just the right time.
In the end, Jackson simply sees it as a variation on the Golden Rule. Try to make sure everybody has a good day, because you want to have a good day. He said…
Everybody's there doing the same job. So you show up, and you try and make the day as pleasant as you want the day to be for you.
Movie-making is an incredibly collaborative business. There are all kinds of people doing all sorts of jobs on set. All of them are necessary, and they're all working toward the same goal. There's no reason not to just be nice to the people you're working with.
Hopefully, we can all learn this lesson from Samuel L. Jackson.

Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce set podcast records together with 'New Heights' appearance

Taylor Swift's podcast debut was a smash hit. The music superstar's appearance on "New Heights" alongside boyfriend and Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce and brother Jason Kelce set records for viewership. Wednesday's podcast set a record on YouTube for concurrent viewers - the number of individual people watching a live stream at the same time - with a peak of 1.3 million. As of Friday evening, the episode has surpassed 15 million views. The live stream crashed nearly two hours in with more than 1 million people watching as she answered more questions about her 12th album "The Life of a Showgirl." She revealed the album art on the podcast and went into detail with the Kelce brothers about what went into the album as well as featured guest artists. DATE NIGHTS: Travis Kelce finally posts Taylor Swift photos on Instagram Per Front Office Sports, people are catching parts of the episode on other platforms, too. Clips from the show have totaled more than 61 million views on X, 34.5 million on TikTok and 379 million on Instagram. The "New Heights" YouTube channel has also seen more than 400,000 new subscribers since the episode went live. The show's Instagram page surpassed 3 million followers as well. Swift's appearance with the Kelce brothers on "New Heights," was initially teased on Monday, Aug. 11, with a promo announcing Swift's new album. The "New Heights" podcast moved up to No. 1 on the Apple podcast charts before the episode became available. Swift, in a subsequent clip released in the lead-up to the episode's debut, also poked fun at "male sports fans" for showing up on the Kelces' podcast given the reception she has received at times for her appearances at Chiefs games. "I think we all know that if there's one thing that male sports fans want to see in their spaces and on their screens, it's more of me," Swift joked. Swift and Travis Kelce have been dating for the past two years and the couple remain a pop culture fascination ahead of the 2025 NFL season. Kelce's celebrity and the podcast he co-hosts with his brother has, in turn, skyrocketed in popularity. "New Heights" is reportedly worth $100 million after being licensed by Wonderly last year. Kelce admitted in a recent GQ cover story that his forays into Hollywood and entertainment might have played a role in why his production "slipped" the past two seasons. He had a cameo role in "Happy Gilmore 2" and one season as host of Amazon Prime Video's game show, "Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?" Swift, Kelce said, is more aligned with his goal of a bounce back year and another Super Bowl title with the Chiefs. Jason Kelce even introduced Swift to the "New Heights" audience as having won one Super Bowl alongside his younger brother. "I sort of made her a football fan," Travis Kelce told GQ. "She is the most engulfed fan now. She knows what the injury reports look like. She understands what special situations are, third and short – all these things because she just naturally loves to hear about my job."

A giant octopus reached for a filmmaker's camera. In a split-second decision, he let go of the camera

Underwater filmmaker John Roney has completed around 1,500 dives in his career, but a dive earlier this month off the coast of Vancouver Island will likely remain a highlight of his career spent underwater – because an octopus borrowed his camera and proceeded to take footage of its web of suction-cupped tentacles. Roney (@roneydives) was diving with friend and diver Chris Mullen in an area known for housing large octopus when a particularly large Giant Pacific Octopus took an interest in the camera equipment. The creature had begun exploring the equipment with its tentacles when Roney made a decision: to let go of the camera. 'The moment it reached out, I could see it was curious,' Roney told Digital Camera World. 'It quickly engulfed my entire camera rig, exploring it with its suckers. I realized this was a rare chance to see what it would do if I stepped back completely, so I let it have the camera and take the lead. That choice gave us a perspective you almost never get.' The decision to let go of the camera resulted in a rare glimpse of an octopus' underbelly as the create took the camera and swam with it while continuing to explore the equipment, eventually hitting the button to stop the recording with one of its suction cups and, once its curiosity was satisfied, dropping the camera to the ocean floor. The camera in question was a Panasonic Lumix GH6, which was encased in a Nauticam housing, and survived the animal encounter. 'It's a tough setup, which is lucky because an animal that size can be incredibly strong,' Roney said. That's particularly lucky considering one biologist says the way the octopus handled the camera is similar to how the animals act when they find something 'potentially edible.' Marine biologist Jennifer Mather told CBC News said the octopus wasn't actually trying to take a selfie, but that octopuses are curious creatures and will often pick up objects and put them underneath their web of tentacles. After the large octopus explored the camera, the creature then explored Mullen, reaching out to give the diver a tentacled 'hug,' which, naturally, Roney caught on camera. The resulting video footage has garnered the attention of news outlets and racked up thousands of likes on social media. 'It's been amazing to see how many people are fascinated by it,' Roney said. 'I think it's the combination of a giant Pacific octopus's intelligence, its otherworldly nature, and the unusual perspective from inside its arms that really captured people's imaginations. If the video gets more people curious about these animals and the ocean they live in, that's a win.' Out of the roughly 1,500 dives that he's completed over the course of his career, he estimates that he's only had two encounters with an octopus that close. The octopus approached the two divers after they went by – an important distinction, as approaching an octopus on a dive can distress the creature. Along with being an underwater filmmaker, Roney is also a television editor, including editing work on a series with Cristina Mittermeier and Paul Nicklen. Roney's underwater films have taken him all over the world and have been part of several documentaries. WWE star Logan Paul, model Nina Agdal married in extravagant Italy wedding

WWE star Logan Paul and model Nina Agdal got married during a ceremony in Lake Como, Italy, on Friday, according to a video shared by his younger brother, Jake, on Instagram. It marked a return to the area where Paul proposed in July 2023, which was just over a year after the couple was spotted at a restaurant in London with friends. And the ceremony that, according to TMZ, was officiated by Mike Majlak — the 'Impaulsive' podcast co-host — caused Jake to become emotional, as he captioned the video with, 'I've seriously been crying.' 'Today is the day I ask the love of my life to marry me,' Paul said in a 2023 YouTube video that provided a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the proposal. But before Paul faces John Cena in a singles bout at WWE Clash in Paris on Aug. 31, he took a break for the extravagant ceremony.
