Why go to the cinema? ‘Shared reality' experience makes viewers feel they're in the movie

In a Los Angeles cinema, a trench-coat-wearing Neo bends backwards to dodge bullets that spiral over the viewer's head, as the sound of gunfire erupts from everywhere. This new immersive experience is designed to be a red-pill moment that will get film fans off their sofas at a time when the movie industry is desperate to bring back audiences. Cosm, which has venues in Los Angeles and Dallas in the United States, is launching its dome-style screen and 3D sets in June with a 'shared reality' version of The Matrix , the cult 1999 film starring Keanu Reeves as a man who suddenly learns his world is a fiction. 'We believe the future will be more immersive and more experiential,' said Cosm president Jeb Terry at a recent preview screening. Neo (Keanu Reeves) appears on screen with an extended display of the power plant towers during the first 'shared reality' screening of the movie The Matrix on an immersive dome screen inside Cosm Los Angeles. A stroke at 21? How this survivor recovered and now empowers others

Molly Buccola ran the Los Angeles marathon during the spring of her senior year at Santa Clara University, in the US state of California. The next month, she and her boyfriend enjoyed a fun Sunday riding around on bikes they borrowed from Buccola's sister, who lived nearby. The next morning, Buccola did not feel up to her usual 6am run, and she slept through class. When her roommate got home that afternoon, Buccola was still in bed. She roused Buccola, who started speaking incomprehensibly. Her left side was weak and she needed help getting to the bathroom. The roommate called Buccola's then boyfriend to let him know what was going on, and he called her sister. In the emergency room, Buccola lost consciousness. By her side, her sister teared up as she phoned their parents, who live in Oregon. A neurologist who saw Buccola recognised the signs of a type of stroke known as venous sinus thrombosis. Deadlier games, shocking twists in new Squid Game season 3 trailer released by Netflix

Netflix has released its official teaser trailer for season 3 of its global hit series Squid Game, intensifying fan anticipation ahead of its June 27 premiere. Advertisement The upcoming season continues the story of Gi-hun ( Lee Jung-jae ), who re-enters the deadly competition with a personal motive but ends up losing his closest friend. The narrative also follows the enigmatic Front Man ( Lee Byung-hun ), who infiltrated the game in disguise, and the final fates of the remaining players who have endured the gruesome contest. The trailer, released to coincide with a Netflix fan event in Los Angeles at the weekend , opens with an eerie rendition of a familiar Korean children's song, 'Knock Knock, Who's There? It's a Kid', setting a sinister tone. It then cuts to the terrifying sight of Young-hee, the iconic giant animatronic doll, now joined by a towering new version clad in floral tights, as frightened contestants brace for the next challenge. The unsettling transformation of childlike elements into tools of horror remains a signature of the franchise . Gi-hun's anguished outburst – 'Why didn't you just kill me? Why was I the only one spared?' – reveals the survivor's guilt he harbours after returning alone from a failed rebellion that claimed the life of his friend Deok-su (Lee Seo-hwan). Advertisement
