Tesco shoppers told to act before May 31 as supermarket issues alert

Tesco has issued an urgent warning for shoppers to use their Clubcard points before they expire at the end of next month. Tesco sends out Clubcard vouchers every three months - in February, May, August and November - and they are valid for two years.
This means the ones that are expiring on May 31, 2025, were first issued in May 2023. The supermarket has emailed a reminder to customers, saying: 'Your Clubcard vouchers are expiring soon. Don't forget to use them on your next shop.'
Tesco shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent on groceries in stores and online, or one point for every two litres of fuel purchased at a Tesco petrol station.
You also get one point for every £1 spent with Tesco Mobile or for every £1 spent using a Tesco Clubcard Pay+ debit card, and one point for every £4 spent on a Tesco credit card. You need a minimum of 150 points to get a Clubcard voucher, which will be worth £1.50 to spend at Tesco.
But if you're not quite ready to use your vouchers yet, there is a trick to extend their life - and double their value - by using them with a Tesco "Reward Partner" such as Thorpe Park, Pizza Express and the RAC.
It you make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards webpage, your remaining Clubcard voucher balance will then be credited back to you as points. These points will be turned into vouchers again when Tesco next issues you a Clubcard statement.
You will need to do this for every voucher you have though - so it may not be worth it for smaller amounts. Tesco has around 20 million Clubcard members in the UK.
It comes after the supermarket urged shoppers to update their Tesco app before March 31 as older versions now no longer work. In an email to customers, Tesco said: "To increase your data protection and online security, we're updating our Tesco app to a newer version.
"After March 31, older versions of the app will no longer work. To keep shopping and enjoying all of your Clubcard benefits on your app, make sure you have the latest version before March 31.
"This update won't affect anything you do on tesco.com. Thanks for shopping at Tesco." You can update your app by visiting the Apple App Store or Google Play.
It comes after Tesco axed its 'Pay In-Store' feature, which allowed shoppers to pay and collect Clubcard points in one go by scanning a code. It means these two steps now need to be done separately.
In the email sent in February, Tesco said: "To ensure we're able to keep bringing out the best value and convenience, we've taken the decision to remove the pay in-store feature, formally known as Tesco Pay+, from the Tesco app.
"Between now and March 7, the pay in-store feature will be phased out and any linked card details will be removed, unless you're using them for GetGo, Whoosh, or home delivery shopping.
"So next time you're in-store, you'll need to pay separately after scanning your Clubcard. You can still earn points and access Clubcard Prices by simply scanning your Clubcard or app at the till. Or you can add your Clubcard to your Apple or Google Wallets.'

Tesco set to change opening hours in some stores in the UK
The supermarket giant is reportedly looking to trial earlier closing times in different stores across the UK. It comes after the company was hit by a large rise in staff costs. Tesco said the change is to ensure these shops are running "in the most efficient way". "In a small number of stores, we are trialling some tweaks to our operational routines to make things simpler for our colleagues and to ensure that we are running these shops in the most efficient way. "These changes aren't visible to our customers, who will continue to receive the same great service they expect, and there are no changes to the range of products we sell.' The Express stores will remain branded the same way and there will be no redundancies. The Telegraph reports that the chosen Tesco Express stores will be shutting an hour earlier, at 10pm rather than 11pm. 5 ways to save money on your weekly food shop It is not confirmed which stores will be affected, however, the Telegraph claims workers have been told the trial is taking place in some of Tesco's "less profitable stores". It is also understood that Tesco will be speaking to colleagues ahead of any changes to roles, including possible transfers. The change to opening hours comes after Tesco's chief executive, Ken Murphy, said that the supermarket needed to offset a number of extra costs following the Spring budget. In April, Tesco said it was facing a large rise in its staffing bill, which included an increase of £235m in National Insurance contributions in the latest financial year. Various changes at Tesco stores The trialling of new hours is not the only change at Tesco stores in the UK. Tesco has become the latest supermarket to roll out new "VAR-style" checkouts in some of its stores. The new self-service checkout systems feature a camera that records customers scanning and packing their shopping. Earlier this month, Sainsbury's also rolled out its own "VAR-style" checkouts. Tesco shoppers have also recently discovered a major change to bakery sections across stores in the UK. Customers have spotted notices being put up in bakeries stating that from 7pm, loose bakery products will be slashed to half price. What's the Difference Between Best Before and Use-By? It's been reported that this used to take place at 5pm, but it's been moved back by two hours, according to The Sun. The supermarket giant, which makes reductions to bakery items every day to help reduce food waste, confirmed to Newsquest that pastries and sweet treats are usually discounted at around 7pm, however, timings can vary by store. Tesco is also considering a major change at checkouts and to all products, according to Retail Gazette.
