This Suzuki Jimny 6x4 Is... Exactly What the Name Suggests

Yahoo05-03-2025
A decade ago, Mercedes-AMG shocked the world by actually selling a six-wheeled G-Wagen directly to customers. The ridiculous G63 AMG 6x6 may have come and gone, but your chance to own something in the vague shape of a G-Wagen with six wheels and a truck bed is not over yet. You just may have to settle for something a little smaller.
This Suzuki Jimny 6x4, currently for sale via U.K.-based Historics Auctioneers, is exactly what the name suggests: a Suzuki Jimny modified in the image of the most ridiculous Mercedes to leave an official factory in decades. The project started life as a regular Jimny, then England's Mocho Fabrication added an axle, two wheels, and bed-like bodywork to surround the extended portion of the mini-SUV. (Sadly, the last axle isn't driven, hence the name 6x4 instead of 6x6.)
An Audi-sourced shade of gray paint and custom quilted leather finished the project, bringing the Jimny 6x4 up to a higher standard than your usual custom six-wheeled sub-compact off-roader, if there were such a thing. The Jimny also comes equipped with aftermarket Apple CarPlay, making it an ideal daily driver for someone very worried about how their podcasts are displayed on their infotainment screen but not so concerned about how many wheels their Jimny has.
Unfortunately, Suzuki's choice not to sell the Jimny (or any other car since 2012) new in America means that this project cannot easily be replicated on another Jimny here and driven around the U.S. as a road-going car. That said, interested European-market bidders will be excited to hear that the Jimny 6x4 is a relative bargain, at an estimated auction price of $51,000–$64,000.

Calling an Uber? The Virgil Abloh Maybach Is Now an Option

Summary Update:Not all Chicago Uber users are reporting seeing the Virgil Abloh Maybach as a bookable fare on their Uber apps, leaving the validity of the rideshare component unclear. Don C is, however, renting out his Maybach for rides in Chicago. Original Story:There are only 150 'Virgil AblohMaybachs' in the world, the storied two-tone sedan that Abloh designed alongside Mercedes' Gorden Wagener as part of Project MAYBACH. Now, the long-sought-after, limited-edition Mercedes-Maybach S-Class S 680 can be yours – for just an hour or so, that is – asDon Chas listed his personal Virgil Abloh Maybach on Uber as a fully bookable offering. With a price set at $500 USD an hour, Chicago Uber riders can book Don C's car on the app now. The listing's description indicates that only two riders can sit in the Virgil Abloh Maybach, with each ride accompanied by a professional driver. The Virgil Abloh Maybach was officially released to its select upper echelon clientele back in 2022, defined by its two-toned body, custom wheels, and sleek Abloh x Maybach co-branded hits throughout both the car's interior and exterior.

Mercedes-Benz CEO questions EU's 2035 ban on CO2-emitting vehicles

Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Kaellenius has voiced concerns over the European Union's plan to eliminate CO2-emitting combustion engine vehicles by 2035, reported Reuters. In a media interview, he highlighted the challenges faced by the industry, including subdued electric vehicle sales, increasing competition from China, and generally weak demand. Supporters note that the ban is essential for Europe to achieve its green goals. This policy is scheduled for review in the latter half of this year. Critics argue that such a ban could place European automobile manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage, as they are currently grappling with subdued demand, increasing competition from Chinese firms, and lackluster sales of electric vehicles. Speaking on 2035 goal, Kaellenius told the Handelsblatt business daily that "We need a reality check. Otherwise we are heading at full speed against a wall." He added that Europe's automobile market could "collapse" if the plan is implemented. Kaellenius contended 'consumers would simply hurry to buy cars with petrol or diesel engines ahead of the ban.' The German executive, who currently leads the European auto lobby group Automobile Manufacturers' Association (ACEA), has suggested that rather than enforcing a ban, the EU should focus on providing tax incentives and ensuring affordable electricity at charging stations to facilitate the transition to electric vehicles. Kaellenius said: "Of course we have to decarbonise, but it has to be done in a technology-neutral way. We must not lose sight of our economy.' Previously, a draft document from the European People's Party (EPP), the EU's largest lawmaker group, hinted at a potential softening of the 2035 phase-out plan. According to Reuters, the document suggested a revision of the ban on combustion engines to allow for advanced combustion engine technology and the use of alternative zero-emission fuels beyond 2035. In 2023, Mercedes-Benz Cars announced that it was forming partnerships with European steel suppliers to secure 200,000 tonnes of CO2-reduced steel annually. Mercedes-Benz has recently reported significant declines in revenue and profit for the second quarter, attributing the downturn to the adverse effects of trade tariffs on its business operations. New Mercedes GLC images give hint of firm's future SUV design

Mercedes has released a look into its future design language with a teaser shot of the upcoming electric GLC SUV. Although details on the car are limited at this stage, the picture shows the car's new front end which features a chrome-framed radiator grille that also has a smoked-glass-look and integrated lighting. Gordon Wagener, chief design officer at Mercedes Group, said: 'Our new iconic grille is not just a new front for the GLC, it redefines the face of our brand. It is the perfect fusion of lasting design codes reinterpreted for the future, making our cars instantly recognisable.' Details of the car's interior will be revealed soon, however it will feature the firm's MBUX Hyperscreen that runs the width of the dashboard. It's a system which is already found on many current Mercedes cars. In terms of powertrains, no details have been revealed at this stage, but it's likely that the car will sit on the Mercedes' ' platform that includes 800-volt architecture, which should allow for ultra-rapid charging times from a DC plug. The car will also be rivalling the likes of the BMW IX3 and Audi Q4 e-tron when it goes on sale next year. The new electric GLC will make its world debut at this year's Munich Motor Show, which takes place from September 7 to September 14.
