Patrick Mahomes Sr. allowed to leave Texas for Chiefs' preseason game
Next month, Patrick Mahomes Sr. , father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, will be permitted to go beyond Texas. His petition to depart the state has been granted by a judge so he can go to the Chiefs' preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals on August 9, 2025, in Glendale, Arizona.
Because of a felony DWI (driving under alcohol) charge earlier this year, Mahomes Sr. had to get court approval. Presently on probation, he is required to obtain court approval before departing Texas.
Court records reveal that Mahomes Sr. sought permission to travel on July 17, 2025. Five days following, on July 22, a Smith County judge gave yes. From August 8 to August 10, he is permitted to leave Texas so he can be present for the Chiefs' inaugural preseason game of the season at State Farm Stadium in support of his son.
Mahomes Sr. was apprehended in February 2024, according to police, looked intoxicated and had an opened can of beer in his vehicle, hence the DWI charge. This occurred just days before his son played and won in Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas against the San Francisco 49ers.
Mahomes Sr.'s lawyer, Joseph D. Murphy, said on August 27, 2024, that his client had pleaded guilty.
'Mr. Mahomes entered a guilty plea in his case today under a written agreement,'
Murphy said.

Rashee Rice speaks for first time after Dallas highway crash as NFL punishment looms
Rashee Rice speaks for first time after Dallas highway crash as NFL punishment looms (Image Via Google) In early August 2025, Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice spoke for the first time since a viral hit‑and‑run crash on a Dallas highway in March 2024. Rumors were there about his upcoming punishment. In his public remarks at Kansas City Chiefs training camp, Rice hinted at deep change without revealing full details. His words left reporters and fans wondering how this star plans to move forward while facing legal and league consequences. Rashee Rice faces jail time and backlash over Dallas crash Rashee Rice pleaded guilty on July 17, 2025 to two third‑degree felonies: collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing injury. He admitted to driving a Lamborghini Urus at 119 mph on U.S. Highway 75 (North Central Expressway) in Dallas, Texas, which caused a six-car chain-reaction crash. He also fled the scene on foot without checking on the injured. Rice was sentenced to five years of deferred probation and 30 days in jail, which he may serve at any time during that probation period. He has already paid over $115,000 in medical restitution and settled one civil suit for approximately $1.086 million. You have to learn from things like that. I've learned…' He added that he would continue working within his means to make sure everyone impacted will be made whole and urged people to drive safe. Rice's attorney, Royce West, also spoke out, noting the jail time will be served across the probation period and that Rice plans to turn himself in responsibly. Former prosecutors explained that because Rice has deferred adjudication, the case may be dismissed if he completes probation successfully. Meanwhile, the NFL is reviewing the case and a multi-game suspension is expected. Chiefs coach Andy Reid confirmed that Rice will take part in training camp and preseason drills, though any regular-season participation may depend on league discipline.
