Loke wants PD container port approval to be expedited
Anthony Loke (PH-Chennah) called the project crucial for the development of Negri Sembilan, particularly in advancing the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) 2.0 initiative, and in strengthening the state's industrial sector.
"I have been informed that the investment for the project from a private company has been secured, and the funding to build the port is already available. Therefore, I hope the state executive council and the Port Dickson Municipal Council will give serious attention to the development of this project.
"I jokingly told the Prime Minister that Port Dickson has the word 'Port' in its name, but there is no actual port, only a jetty. We hope this container port will be realised, as it will be the first container port development within the state's maritime boundary," he said when debating the motion of thanks for the Royal Address at the state legislative assembly sitting here on Monday (April 28).
Loke, who is also Transport Minister and Seremban MP, further urged the state government to prioritise approval of semiconductor investments under the MVV 2.0 project, to ensure the sector continues to grow, especially given the current high demand for semiconductors.
He added that Negri Sembilan could also seize the opportunity to develop an industrial park through the collaboration under the 'Two Countries, Twin Parks' project between China and Malaysia, for which a memorandum of understanding was recently signed.
Meanwhile, Datuk Saiful Yazan Sulaiman (BN-Johol) proposed the establishment of a special state investment team to explore alternative markets such as the Middle East, South Asia, and Africa, while enhancing facilities for investors in green technology and automation in line with the digitalisation agenda.
He also suggested that government-linked companies should become more aggressive in driving the state's economy, rather than relying solely on conventional business models, as the world is rapidly moving towards AI and data-driven economies.
Opposition leader Mohamad Hanifah Abu Baker (PN-Labu) voiced concern over the rising use of vape among the younger generation in the state, viewing it as a serious threat to public health.
Tensions rose briefly when Mohamad Hanifah questioned the allocation of only 20 minutes for his debate speech, compared to other states where opposition leaders are given up to 45 minutes.
Following this, Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker Datuk MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman reprimanded Mohamad Hanifah and clarified that the speaking time allotted was the same for all state assembly members (ADUNs). - Bernama

Mustapha rebuked for calling GRS a liability to PH
Jasnih KOTA KINABALU (Aug 17): Pantai Dalit Assemblyman Datuk Jasnih Daya has criticised Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah chairman Datuk Mustapha Sakmud for describing Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as a liability to Pakatan Harapan (PH). Jasnih, who is also Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) Pantai Dalit Division chief, said Mustapha's statement was baseless and potentially damaging to the unity of government coalition partners. 'I am not sure what the basis, motive or objective is for him to label GRS as a liability to PH,' he said in a Facebook post on Sunday. He noted that he has many friends in PKR and PH, but such remarks are rare. He urged Mustapha to be more cautious when making public statements, stressing that reckless comments could backfire. 'Do not get carried away when giving statements, especially those that only highlight weaknesses and damage yourself. Most importantly, do not be a spoiler,' Jasnih said. He also warned that excessive confidence could lead to arrogance, which would undermine a leader's credibility. 'Overconfidence leads to arrogance… and remember, no one is irreplaceable,' he said. Jasnih further advised that differing views should be resolved internally through party channels and leadership structures, instead of being aired publicly in a way that fuels unnecessary polemics. 'If that is what you truly feel, discuss it properly with your leader. InshaAllah, if it is for the best… then we just carry it out,' he said. He reiterated that political stability in Sabah must remain a top priority, as it is closely tied to development initiatives and the wellbeing of the people under the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) policy. Meanwhile, PKR Papar division's women's movement has called for a more mature and responsible political culture, urging leaders to prioritise the people's welfare over rhetoric. Its chief, Shakila Ismail, was responding to remarks by Gagasan Rakyat Youth Kawang Division against Mustapha. Shakila stressed that Mustapha's views should be regarded as part of a healthy and responsible political discourse, not as a political attack. 'Datuk Mustapha's perspective is part of a healthy political dialogue. It should not be seen as an attack, but as a reminder that political cooperation in Sabah must truly benefit the people, especially women, children, and rural communities,' she said. She also cautioned against politicising the recent tragedy involving the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, a 13-year-old student from Papar. 'As leaders, the tragedy of the late Zara Qairina should never be used as a political tool. Instead, all Malaysians and the authorities must unite to uphold justice and implement institutional reforms to prevent such cases from happening again,' she said. According to her, political leaders must show exemplary conduct by engaging in respectful, solution-focused politics rather than finger-pointing. 'We must lead by example, practising politics with wisdom and maturity, focusing on solutions and not rhetoric or blame. The people will judge leaders based on their actions, honesty, and sincerity in defending them,' she said. In her statement, Shakila also outlined three key calls from the movement: prioritising welfare and safety with no compromise in protecting students, women and children; strengthening political cooperation to ensure stability and development in Sabah while safeguarding state rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63); and amplifying Sabah's voice at the national level through the Unity Government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. 'PKR Sabah women's movement remains principled yet firm. Politics must continue to serve as a platform to defend the people, not as a battleground that undermines public confidence,' she emphasised.

BN to focus on rural seats, PH on urban areas in Sabah polls

Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan ( pic ) said the arrangement highlighted the strength of the BN-PH alliance and reflected a clear strategy ahead of the polls. He said the number of seats allocated to BN would be announced by party leaders, but confirmed that PH would contest in urban areas through either DAP or PKR while BN would focus on rural constituencies. The Pontian MP, who also heads Umno's central war room secretariat, added that preparations this time were more structured compared with the 2020 Sabah polls. Ahmad said he had already visited 20 party divisions in Sabah, with five more pending inspection as part of the early groundwork. On Saturday, BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed that the deal with PH was finalised without overlaps and stressed that no negotiations were held with Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) out of respect for PH. Hajiji: Shahelmey will join us for Sabah polls
PUTATAN: Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor confirmed today that his deputy, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, would be joining his team for the upcoming 17th Sabah state election (PRN17). "He will follow siurang (us)," Hajiji said when asked about Shahelmey's status. Despite his six-year suspension from Umno Sabah in 2023, Shahelmey is still regarded as part of Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN), according to Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin. The term siurang, a local Sabahan expression meaning "us", refers to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), which Hajiji leads. Bung Moktar has repeatedly said that Umno would not nominate Shahelmey again following his decision to support Hajiji and the GRS government in January 2023, after Sabah Umno withdrew its support for the chief minister. Speaking after attending the Youth Programme for Tanjung Aru, Petagas and Tanjung Keramat this afternoon, Hajiji expressed confidence that GRS could capture all three state seats in the Putatan parliamentary constituency in PRN17. He also voiced confidence in Shahelmey, who is also the Putatan MP, to defend the Tanjung Keramat seat, which he won under a BN ticket during the 16th state election (PRN16) in September 2020. "It will not be difficult… he will surely win. He is still the assemblyman, and he is also the member of parliament," Hajiji said. Shahelmey, however, risks losing his eligibility as Putatan MP if he contests under a GRS ticket in PRN17 due to the anti-hopping law, as the parliamentary seat was won under a BN ticket in the 15th General Election (GE15) in November 2022. Earlier in his speech, Hajiji, who is also GRS chairman, said the coalition could secure all three state seats in Putatan if the people remain united in supporting the government. "Putatan is fortunate to have a deputy chief minister and elected representatives who actively serve the people. God willing, in this election GRS will take all three state seats. The people of Putatan must unite to ensure this good government is returned," he said. Currently, the Tanjung Aru state seat is held by opposition party Warisan, while Petagas and Tanjung Keramat are aligned with GRS. In PRN16, Petagas was also won by Warisan, but its assemblyman Datuk Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari quit the party in February 2023 to join Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), a GRS component party.
