Man arrested for raping teen in Sundargarh
The 16-year-old survivor gave birth to a girl last month, but the newborn died a day later.
The case came to light when the police outpost in the hospital concerned reported the baby's death on Aug 2, prompting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the mother's situation.
Authorities found that she was residing in a childcare facility.
Upon questioning, the girl revealed that she had met the accused through social media in Oct 2024. The man allegedly lured her to a relative's house in early Nov, where he raped her twice, promising marriage.
The sexual assaults are said to have continued later that month.
In Dec 2024, the girl travelled to Assam to work for relatives, where she began experiencing abdominal pain. Medical examination at a hospital there revealed she was four months' pregnant. Despite informing the accused of her condition, he allegedly ignored her.
The girl's relatives then informed her parents, who then took her to the childcare facility to conceal her pregnancy.

After being discharged, the minor was counselled by police and encouraged to file a formal complaint. She lodged an FIR against the accused on Tuesday, leading to his arrest. Police have charged him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act.
Inspector S Naik said the suvivor's statement will be recorded before the magistrate. Naik said they are also investigating why the childcare facility did not report the matter to police earlier.
