BINTULU: Keeping the Pan Borneo Highway clean is a shared responsibility, not just for the government but all road users, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
He emphasised that the highway, a multi-billion-ringgit national asset, plays a crucial role in Sarawak's development.
'It is disheartening to see rubbish strewn along the Pan Borneo Highway, particularly near P-Turns and pedestrian bridges. It is not only an eyesore but also tarnishes the image of Sarawakians and the state as a whole,' he said during the 'Cleanliness Awareness Campaign' launch at the PBH Bintulu-Miri P-Turn.
Nanta stated that new laws on cleanliness were unnecessary as local authorities like the Bintulu Development Authority already have anti-littering regulations.
He highlighted that public self-discipline is more effective than relying solely on enforcement officers to maintain cleanliness.
'We want the media to spread this message positively. You also have a responsibility to convince the public to play their part in keeping the highway clean. Civic awareness is the key,' he added.
The government will provide additional rubbish bins at strategic locations along the highway for easier waste disposal.
At the 'Jaga Pan Borneo Bait-Bait' event, attended by over 200 residents, Nanta also urged motorists to drive safely and follow traffic rules.
He noted that over 500,000 road accidents occur annually in Malaysia, mostly due to negligence and traffic violations. - Bernama

Anwar Announces Initial RM100,000 Allocation For RXZ Members 7.0 Programme

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- The MADANI government will allocate an initial RM100,000 to support the RXZ Members 7.0 2025 Programme, which will be held on Aug 23 at the Gong Badak Motor Circuit in Terengganu. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said further discussions on additional support will be held with the organisers next week. He said the MADANI government recognises the role and contributions of the motorcycling community as a catalyst for unity, a builder of camaraderie, and a key contributor to local economic development through various high-impact activities. 'I express my full support for the organisation of the RXZ Members 7.0 2025 Programme. This programme serves as a key platform to bring together motorcycle enthusiasts and the motorcycling community from across the country, while elevating the potential of the motorcycling industry to greater heights,' he said in a statement today. To ensure smooth operations and safety throughout the programme, he said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has been instructed to provide the necessary assistance and security control. Anwar also reminded participants and organisers to observe traffic rules, act responsibly, and fully cooperate with the authorities to ensure smooth operations and safety throughout the event. 'In the spirit of National Month, I also call on all participants to fly the Jalur Gemilang as a symbol of pride and love for the country. 'May this programme not only serve as a positive motorcycling platform but also as a medium to strengthen national unity and the spirit of patriotism among Malaysians,' he said. The Prime Minister added that the government will continue to support community initiatives that deliver shared benefits, strengthen unity, and foster a positive, safe and progressive motorcycling culture for the nation's prosperity.

Flexi Parking Honoured With Two Malaysia Book Of Records Titles

SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Flexi Parking, a smart parking payment system, has been recognised with two Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) titles. The app earned the honours for being the most widely adopted integrated smart parking application by local authorities (PBT), and for recording the highest number of daily parking payment transactions in Malaysia. Leading Innovative Technologies and System (LiTS) chief executive officer Lai Thiam Sin said since its launch in 2016, Flexi Parking has secured support from 46 PBTs nationwide, making it the largest integrated smart parking app in the country. These include 15 PBTs in Perak, 11 in Selangor, seven in Kelantan, four in Kedah, two each in Sabah, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang, and one each in Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur City Hall and Putrajaya Corporation. 'Flexi Parking also set the record for the most transactions per day with 461,265 transactions on May 7, covering hourly parking, monthly passes, in-app credit top-ups, and summons or compound payments. 'Since then, the daily transaction volumes have continued to rise, reflecting strong support nationwide. These recognitions affirm Felxi Parking as a local innovation that has digitally and efficiently transformed the public parking system in Malaysia,' he said in a statement today. Lai added that the app has simplified parking payments for vehicle owners, who no longer need tickets or cash, as all transactions can be managed via smartphone. The certificates were presented by MBR representative Megat Faris Hussein Megat Muzaffar Shah to Lai at a ceremony here, witnessed by Selangor Islamic Religious Affairs and Innovation Culture Committee chairman Dr Mohammad Fahmi Ngah. -- BERNAMA
