Muizzu Receives Honorary PhD In Islamic Leadership, MADANI Development From IIUM
KUALA LUMPUR, April 29 (Bernama) -- Maldives President Dr Mohamed Muizzu was today conferred an Honorary Doctorate of Philosophy (PhD) in Islamic Leadership and MADANI Development by the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in recognition of his contributions to leadership and nation-building.
The honorary degree was presented by Tengku Ampuan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah, the university's Constitutional Head, at a special convocation held at the Gombak campus.
In his acceptance speech, Muizzu expressed gratitude for the honour and highlighted the importance of leadership rooted in justice, innovation and human capital development in elevating Islamic nations globally.
'This honorary doctorate is a symbol of the enduring bonds between our nations, and a reminder that leadership must always be rooted in justice, compassion and the collective empowerment of our people.
'The role of academic diplomacy between our nations is important. It is not only strengthening bilateral relations, but beyond that, we shared aspirations for inclusive development within the Muslim world,' he said.
Muizzu also delivered a keynote address titled 'The Intellectual Renaissance: Unveiling the Scientific and Modern Developments of Islamic Civilisation,' underscoring the role of intellectual empowerment and scientific advancement in contemporary Islamic civilisation.
Also present at the ceremony were Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, IIUM President Tan Sri Samsudin Osman, IIUM Rector Prof Emeritus Datuk Dr Osman Bakar, and High Commissioner of the Republic of Maldives to Malaysia Dr Mariyam Shabeena Ahmed.
Earlier, in her royal address, Tunku Azizah said as part of IIUM's vision to preserve Islamic heritage, the university aspired to send its students to study in the Maldives for greater depth, as well to enhance academic collaboration between the two countries.
She noted that IIUM, established in 1983 with the Republic of Maldives as one of its founding co-sponsors, has produced many Maldivian graduates who have gone on to serve the nation with excellence.

In a separate statement, MITI said key discussions at SEOM 3/56 focused on Malaysia's Priority Economic Deliverables under its 2025 ASEAN chairmanship; updates on the 2025 Annual Priorities under the AEM/SEOM purview; implementation of ASEAN agreements; advancement of the Digital Economy Framework Agreemen; and ASEAN's sustainability agenda, including carbon neutrality, circular economy, and the ASEAN Power Grid. MITI is hosting the SEOM 3/56 and Related Meetings from Aug 18 to 23 in Kuala Lumpur. July 2025 supplementary electoral roll open for public review
PUTRAJAYA: The Supplementary Electoral Roll for July 2025 has been officially gazetted and is now available for public scrutiny. Election Commission secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus confirmed the 30-day review period will extend until September 18. This electoral roll contains 42,464 citizens who turned 18 between July 1 and 31, 2025. These individuals were automatically registered as new voters under the automatic voter registration system. Additionally, the roll includes 15,109 voters who changed their constituencies. Another 1,523 voters altered their status or category during this period. Khairul Shahril urged all eligible citizens to verify their registration details. 'The EC calls on citizens aged 18 and above from July 1 to 31, 2025, and any registered voter who has applied for a change of constituency or voter status or category to check their names in DPT BLN7/2025,' he stated. Federal state local government synergy key to 13MP success Fadillah
KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof emphasised that achieving the 13th Malaysia Plan's aspirations requires strong collaboration between government tiers. He stated that success at the local government level depends entirely on close synergy between federal, state governments and local authorities.
