Longhorns star adds another gold medal to her trophy case
With Booker leading the way, Team USA secured gold following a 92-84 win over Brazil. In the championship game, Booker scored seven points and hauled five rebounds. It marked her sixth start of the tournament in seven games.
Regardless of the opponent, Booker has shown why she is one of the best in the country. In Team USA's semifinal win over Canada, the Germantown High School product scored seven of Team USA's 14 points in the fourth quarter. That came following a 13-point and six-steal performance against the Dominican Republic in the semifinals. Her six steals tied Ruth Bolton, Lisa Leslie, and Carla McGhee for the USA single-game steals record.
For many in Austin, Booker's latest achievement comes as no surprise. In her sophomore campaign, the Ridgeland native earned First Team All-America honors. Booker was also named the SEC Player of the Year for the second time. As Texas fell just a few wins short of a national title, Booker was a human highlight reel.
Through her first two years as a Longhorn, Booker has scored 1,231 points and dished out 287 assists. She has also been a menace on the boards with 436 rebounds. On the national stage, she has continued to be that player while taking her career to new heights.
The last few weeks have provided a reminder of just how good Booker is and why special things could be in store for the Longhorns during the 2025-2026 campaign.

When former Texas Longhorns WR Matthew Golden was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, the Houston native said his first major purchase after signing his first NFL contract would be to buy his grandmother a new house. Golden has made good on that promise. Golden's family lost the house a few years ago. He was very clear what he was going to do with his money. 'Definitely get my grandma a house, man,' Golden told reporters during draft week. 'We lost our property a couple of years ago. That's somewhere I grew up when I was younger. It'd be a blessing to be able to get that back for my family. That's where they all grew up, that's where I grew up. I always told myself I wanted to do that and now I'm in the position to do it, so if it's bound to happen, I'm gonna make it happen for sure.' His grandmother's original home wasn't a viable purchasing option, so Golden found something better. Golden found a three-bedroom, two-bathroom house to purchase in Kohrville, Texas, only miles from where Golden grew up. 'My grandmother has done so much for me, and I'm humbled to be able to give back to her in this way,' Golden said in a press release from his relator company REMAX. 'While we weren't able to purchase our family home, we've found a house in an area that's also meaningful to me. Home is where my family is and I'm excited for us to enjoy many meals, holidays and football watch parties together.' Golden, 21, was selected with the 23rd overall pick, making him the first wide receiver drafted in the first round by the Packers since 2002. His journey to the NFL included standout seasons at both Houston and Texas, capped by a senior year in which he caught 58 passes for 987 yards and nine touchdowns, tying for the most touchdown receptions in the SEC. "Being able to buy this dream house means everything to me," Golden said. "I can't describe this feeling. It might be a little bit better than getting drafted. This is a big milestone for me." Golden's story has resonated with Packers fans, many of whom have celebrated the team's decision to draft a player who brings both talent and heart to Green Bay. Penn State receives highest preseason AP Poll ranking since 1997
The AP Top 25 Poll has just been released, and needless to say, Penn State fans should be jumping with joy. For the first time in program history, the Nittany Lions were ranked second in the preseason poll. This is their highest preseason ranking since 1997, when they were ranked first in the nation, but ended up finishing 16th in the final poll of the season. Most importantly, though, is that it is the highest preseason ranking of the James Franklin era. This year, unlike previous years, the Nittany Lions will be looking to stay there. Penn State received 23 first-place votes in the preseason media poll, two fewer than the preseason no. 1, the Texas Longhorns. Texas edged Penn State for the top spot in the AP poll by just five total points. Other teams receiving first-place votes include Ohio State (11), Clemson (4), and Oregon (1). Last year, the Nittany Lions ranked 8th in the preseason AP poll and finished fifth, their highest final ranking since 2005, when they finished in third. This year feels different. Out of the top 25, Penn State arguably returns the most talent to its squad, starting with quarterback Drew Allar, running backs Nick Singleton and Kaytron Allen, and defensive linemen Dani Dennis-Sutton and Zane Durant. Unfortunately, this did not see them as the top team in the nation. That would be the Texas Longhorns, one of ten SEC schools in the top 25. This is the Horns' first-ever preseason No. 1 ranking in program history. With ten schools, the SEC is the leading conference in terms of teams within the top 25 with the Big Ten a close second, with six. Penn State is joined by No. 3 Ohio State , No. 7 Oregon, No. 12 Illinois, No. 14 Michigan, and No. 20 Indiana. Ohio State continues its streak of 72 appearances in the preseason top 25. This year, the AP voters favored the experience of the Nittany Lions over the new-look Buckeyes. We will have to wait and see if they live up to that standard. Texas is just a placeholder No. 1 seed in the preseason AP rankings
Good morning, and welcome back to The Morning Win. If you're a Texas Longhorns fan, it's more like a great morning. For the first time in school history, your football team is the preseason AP No. 1-ranked team in the country. Life is good for the Longhorns, who continue an upward trend after consecutive trips to the College Football Playoff. And now the Arch Manning era is officially here to push them over the top. Unfortunately for Steve Sarkisian's squad, that reign at the top isn't expected to last very long. In fact, Texas may not make it past the first game with a "1" next to its name. Opening their season on the road against the preseason No. 3-ranked team, Ohio State, the Longhorns are actually underdogs in Week 1. Despite holding top odds to win the national championship at +475 at BetMGM, they're getting 2.5 points and +110 odds on the moneyline for the opener in Columbus. Absolutely wild for a team everyone expects to be the best in college football. Unless the line flips, Texas will be the first No. 1 team to open a season as an underdog. On one hand, this is really cool. It's nice that we'll get to see two amazing teams square off this early in the season in a rematch of the College Football Playoff semifinal at the Cotton Bowl. On another, it's quite meaningless... these teams will be drastically different at the end of the season (likely for the better) than they will be in the opener. There won't be much we can glean from a game on Aug. 30. Regardless, a loss would no doubt flip these teams' place in the AP rankings. And if Ohio State grabs the top spot, it won't likely relinquish it until hitting the heart of its conference schedule in mid-October, at the earliest. Considering the SEC gauntlet Texas has to play, the Longhorns may never get that top seed back -- no matter how the Buckeyes play. So, enjoy this little bit of history while you can, Texas. There's a chance it doesn't last long. But hey, there's always a national championship to play for at the end of the year. NBA teases schedule release With the NBA schedule release coming Thursday, the league has already revealed some of its biggest dates of the 2025-26 season, including the full schedule of games for Christmas Day and Martin Luther King Jr. Day. One thing that jumped out to me, though, is the two-game slate for Opening Night because it includes a Lakers-Warriors matchup that used to be a thing of dreams. Now? I'm not so sure they couldn't have found a more appealing matchup given the uncertain state of those two teams, even as the two aging legends of the Lakers and Warriors remain huge draws. The earlier Rockets-Thunder game is much more interesting to me. Either way, I'll be tuned in. Here's a look at all the other games that have been teased so far. Quick Hits: Gambling rumors ...
