
Working together for a better Emalahleni
Momentum is building in Emalahleni as Seriti Power hands over two much-needed service delivery vehicles, a waste compactor truck, and a water tanker, to the Emalahleni Local Municipality.
The donation, made on June 27, forms part of Seriti's ongoing Social and Labour Plan commitments, aimed at empowering municipalities and uplifting local communities.
The day's programme began with a symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony on Walter Sisulu Road, which Seriti will soon refurbish as part of its broader infrastructure development plans. The formal handover event then took place at Klarinet Extension 3 Community Hall.
Speaking at the event, Executive Mayor Clr Vusi Nhlapho expressed appreciation for Seriti's continued investment in the municipality's development.
'We thank Seriti for continuing to invest in the well-being of our communities,' said Nhlpaho. 'We call on all stakeholders within and around Emalahleni to collaborate with the municipality in strengthening and accelerating service delivery.'
The day concluded at Coronation Secondary School in Klarinet, where tech company Ikeja proudly unveiled free WiFi infrastructure.
The initiative is aimed at enhancing learners' access to digital resources and creating a more conducive learning environment.

R12 million for road projects in Driefontein and Acaciavale
Mayor Zama Sibisi yesterday (July 29) introduced a contractor for the Malva Road project in Ward 20, Acaciavale, under Alfred Duma Local Municipality. Sihlahlasiyahluma Construction (Pty) Ltd was announced as the contractor at an event that was held near the Acaciavale Community Clinic. R6 million has been allocated for the job, which is estimated to take about six months to complete. The project will create approximately 14 job opportunities for local residents. Similarly budgeted at R6 million and scheduled for completion within six months, this project aims to significantly improve road quality and accessibility in the area. It is anticipated to generate 15 job opportunities for locals. The projects are funded by the Department of Co-operative Governance & Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). Sibisi emphasised the critical role these infrastructure upgrades will play in improving residents' daily lives by providing better access to essential services and boosting local economic activity. In closing, the mayor called on all community members to fully co-operate during the construction phase of these projects. Govan Mbeki Municipality welcomes new CFO
Govan Mbeki Municipality has appointed Vukosi Nkhata as its new CFO, effective July 1. Her appointment follows the resignation of the former CFO, Murufo Moloto, last year. Nkhata joins the municipality from Lekwa Local Municipality, where she served as CFO from April 2024 until June 30. During her tenure, she played a key role in stabilising Lekwa's finance department by implementing systems that promoted effective and efficient financial management. Nkhata brings over 17 years of experience in public finance and administration, having held several senior roles in the local government sector in Mpumalanga. Her career began as an audit clerk at the Auditor-General of South Africa. She later worked as an advisor under the Municipal Finance Improvement Programme (MFIP).
