Miss Great Britain Glasgow finalist raises dementia awareness after gran's shock diagnosis

Daily Record19 hours ago

Jenna Kinnaird has been named a finalist in the glitzy ceremony which will take place in Larkhall's Radstone Hotel on June 20.
A big-hearted accounts assistant from Hamilton is raising awareness of a cause close to her heart as she sets her sights on the Miss Great Britain Glasgow crown next week.
Jenna Kinnaird, who volunteers for Kilbryde Hospice, has been named a finalist in the glitzy ceremony which will take place in Larkhall's Radstone Hotel on June 20.

The stunning 20-year-old brunette will compete against dozens of other beauties for the coveted title for the chance to win a place in the Miss Great Britain national final in October.

And while the former St John Ogilvie High School pupil says it would be a "dream" to win the contest, Jenna, who is competing for the second year in a row, is most proud to be raising awareness and funds for Dementia UK following her gran's shock diagnosis.

She told Lanarkshire Live:"My gran was 71 when she diagnosed with dementia at Christmas last year. She had been working as a home carer for people with memory loss right up to when she was diagnosed. It was very fast moving as she was working at the start of the week, and by the end of the week she could no longer live alone.
"It completely turned our lives upside down when her memory deteriorated. I knew I had to look into how the dementia affected my gran's capability to live alone and wanted to educate others on the whole process that comes with it and how it not only affects the older generation, but young people too.
"My family and I never thought dementia would be something that we would have to deal with so soon. I knew I had to use my platform to let people know there is help out there."

As well as taking part in a charity run for Hamilton Judo Club, Jenna was determined to raise funds for Dementia UK after her gran's sudden illness.
Last month she held a quiz night at Giovanni's Italian Kitchen restaurant in her hometown which raised over £600.
Shy and introverted as a child, Jenna says pageanting has given her the confidence to shine on stage and she can't wait to show the judges all the good work she has been doing for her local community in the lead up to the final.

Jenna will compete in four rounds on pageant day in the hope of being crowned Miss Great Britain Glasgow: interview, swimwear, fashion and eveningwear.
Jenna added: "I was always really shy and anxious as a child. In school I was quite quiet, very introverted.
"I've always been more confident on social media and was approached by Miss Great Britain Glasgow via Instagram. I just went for it and it definitely built my confidence so much that I decided to do it again this year.

"I'm so excited to take part in the finals. I'm excited to show the judges all the work that I've put in this year, compared to last year.
"I love my community and I love helping out so I want to show that I'm prepared to make that time for others. With all the things I've done and the people I've met, I already have a feeling of proudness. I'm getting to go up on that stage and show everything I've done which I feel really good about."
She continued: "And raising money and awareness for a charity so close to my heart, it does already feel like I've won. It's everyone's dream to win, but I'd be so happy for any of the other girls to win as we've became such good friends, it's so nice to see.

"My family are over the moon - they're my biggest supporters. And I don't drive so they're my taxi rides here, there and everywhere! My sister Hanna is autistic and really struggles with her confidence so she always tells me how much it means to her that I get up on the stage."

Laura Anderson gives reason for leaving daughter behind on couples holiday

Love Island star Laura Anderson was 'hurt' about a backlash to her recent luxury holiday with boyfriend Clark, but the devoted single mum is unapologetic about taking time for herself Love Island star Laura Anderson snapped back at trolls last week who cruelly shamed her for going on her first child-free holiday with her sportsman boyfriend – and now a source claims the 36-year-old is feeling 'hurt' about the backlash she has received. Laura had kept fans up to date about her luxury Maldives holiday with her partner, Dundee player Clark Robertson, 31, sharing a series of stunning, loved-up snaps from their exotic getaway. But rather than be happy for her first holiday with the footballer, some fans decided to call out the single mum – who has previously posted her trips with her daughter, as well as sweet videos with her at home – for not bringing 21-month-old Bonnie along. Now, a source claims to OK! that the online backlash has been deeply unpleasan t for the mum-of-one – but she's doing her best not to let it get under her skin. ‌ ‌ 'Being heavily trolled has been upsetting for Laura, as it would be for anyone. In her eyes, it's bullying behaviour,' they claim. 'Much of it seems to come from women, and that hurts her – she's a strong, single mum and she feels women should be supporting other women not attacking them.' Laura shares her adorable tot Bonnie with her ex, Hollyoaks actor Gary Lucy, who she met during her stint on Celebs Go Dating in 2022. The pair split a year into their relationship before Bonnie was born, with Gary, 43, publicly announcing their break-up just one day after Laura's announcement of her pregnancy. Laura was also criticised by some after revealing that the Maldives break had been gifted to her. One wrote, 'I don't understand society! I mean, I get why companies give free holidays like this to promote. 'But imagine if they allowed people who wouldn't normally experience these types of things and let them promote on social media. Like underpaid nurses, doctors, paramedics, firemen and the people that put out so much into society.' Others, however, were firmly in Laura's corner – pointing out that as an influencer, it was her job to promote companies to her 1.5m Instagram followers. One penned, 'It's called a PR stay. It's her job, she has over 1.5 million followers she is able to promote this to. It's how she earns a living.' Straight-talking Scot Laura swiftly hit back at the nasty online trolls who tried to guilt-trip her about her picture-perfect getaway, posting a video on social media where she more than set the record straight. ‌ 'Just to clarify, I do not feel guilty at all for holidaying without my child. Neither should you! Bonnie and I have holidayed together a lot and it's pretty obvious I'm a lone parent and look after her myself. l 100% deserve as many breaks as I see fit,' she said, clearly upset. 'I truly worry about the children of the women judging online and spreading hate. Spend your time reading your child a book instead of trolling me.' She added defiantly, 'I'm also not afraid to say I know l am an unbelievable mother, so your trolling doesn't affect me. It just makes me sad that my daughter is growing up in a world like this. I truly hope you heal.' The source goes on to claim, 'Laura doesn't feel she's done anything wrong – apart from having a good time on holiday with her boyfriend, and sharing her posts, like many of us do. 'She adores her daughter and is absolutely devoted to her. It's horrible for her to read these comments – but she's her own woman, she won't let it stop her living her life or let it destroy her happiness.' ‌ And the grass, as they say, is not always greener. Opening up last December, Laura – who was a runner-up on Love Island in 2018, bravely admitted, 'Single working mothers how do you do it? I'm so overwhelmed atm! I don't usually suffer from anxiety but my God I cannot sleep from worry and work is just getting on top of me. I know I'm lucky and I hate being that person who moans but my God there are not enough hours in the day. Trying to keep it together.' Cruel trolls and single mum struggles aside, things are looking good for Laura – who just weeks ago gave fans a sneak peek of her huge new home, with a vast garden and beautiful sea views. And, as for her love story with Clark, the pair seem to be going from strength to strength since going public with their romance last October. Opening up previously about how they first got together, Laura admitted, 'It's not very romantic, he messaged me online, I saw it about three years later and replied and here we are. It's nice, it's chilled, no drama, just simple. A good Scottish boy, I can't complain.' As Laura said in her recent Instagram Story, there will always be someone who is richer or doing better than you in life – 'whatever better is'. Be jealous if that's what you feel, she says, but 'don't judge that person because of it'.

Romeo Beckham's sweet four-word message to dad after he finally gets knighthood

Sir David Beckham has shared an adorable post by his son Romeo, 22, congratulating him on receiving a knighthood - while Cruz and Brooklyn are yet to publicly break their silence Romeo Beckham has shared a sweet four-word message to his dad after it has been announced in the King's Birthday Honours List that David Beckham is set to receive a knighthood. Gone are the days Victoria will be nicknamed Posh, and she really has lived up to the moniker as Victoria, who received an OBE in 2017, also receives a new title with David's honour, and she will now be known as Lady Victoria Beckham. ‌ Each of the Beckham children are also famous, having grown up in front of the gaze of millions of fans. Although they have earned their own status' within the world of showbiz, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper Beckham won't get any royal recognition due to their dad's new title. ‌ Taking to Instagram in the early hours of Saturday, June 14 Romeo shared a black and white image of him and his dad with the words "So proud of you". David then shared it to his stories. Brooklyn and Cruz are yet to publicly congratulate their dad. The news comes as the family have been locked in a feud with eldest son Brooklyn, 26. Things came to a head when Brooklyn and wife Nicola Peltz skipped David's 50th birthday celebrations as the drama has reportedly resulted in the couple cutting contact with the famous family. Sir David said in a statement to the PA news agency: 'Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour. ‌ 'To have played for and captained my country was the greatest privilege of my career and literally a boyhood dream come true. Off the pitch I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to represent Britain around the world and work with incredible organisations that are supporting communities in need and inspiring the next generation. 'I'm so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I'm grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment. It will take a little while for the news to sink in but I'm immensely proud and it's such an emotional moment for me to share with my family.' Like every person who has received a knighthood, Sir David will be treated to an official ceremony. The ceremony, which often happens at Buckingham Palace, will see David kneel in front of a monarch – which can be either the King or another member of the Royal Family such as Princess Anne or Prince William – who will then touch the recipient's shoulder with a sword.

Pregnant Sophie Habboo shows off her blossoming baby bump in a hilarious slogan crop top as she shares series of stylish snaps

Pregnant Sophie Habboo proudly showcased her blossoming baby bump in a series of Instagram snaps shared on Friday. The former Made in Chelsea star, 30, flaunted her growing bump in a white crop top with the slogan 'Too Old For [Leonardo] DiCaprio ' printed on it as she posed for a mirror selfie. She also shared a stunning shot of herself in a white dress as she strolled through the streets of London while holding a iced coffee and her phone. Sophie also posted behind-the-scenes glimpses from the recording studio and a visit to the hairdresser as she documented the early days of her pregnancy. She wrapped up her photo dump with a fun picture of her husband, Jamie Laing, enjoying an ice cream, along with some delicious food she recently indulged in. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Sophie revealed earlier this week on her and Jamie's newly named podcast NearlyParents, that she has struggled with some aspects of her pregnancy. She confessed that when her second trimester hit, she felt like she was 'dying' and was dealing with a lot of hormones that made her frequently feel irritated. 'This girl has gone from a bit of a b***h to don't come near me,' she quipped. 'Up until week eight, I was smooth sailing. No good aversions, no sickness, so much energy, I was like what is every talking about this is unbelievable. 'Week eight hit and everyone's starting to grate to me a bit. Like that man sat next to me on the plane breathing, like is it illegal if I punch him in the face? 'If you're a fan of the podcast, I love you so much but you're not going to like me if you meet me at the moment.' Jamie said he struggled to get his head around Sophie's mood changes with pregnancy, recalling: 'I asked Sophie if she had any cravings and she said, ''No, the only craving I have is hating you''. 'I then spent an evening on Reddit looking at "Why does your wife hate her husband so much when they're pregnant". He went on: 'Sophie is teaching me to drive and I'm a little bit nervous in the car and she goes "You're a s**t driver". I'm literally in my head going "Oh my god she's hasn't eaten this is really scary". 'Sophie then gets so angry she says to me "I'm so angry I want to drive us both into the back of this car and kill us". And then she started crying!' Sophie confessed that the 'anger is uncontrollable' but that it 'was very fleeting' as she lamented how her 'enormous t*ts' also meant she couldn't fit in any of her clothes. Jamie candidly told listeners how he owed her a real apology after not taking her hormones seriously and threatening to leave her over her 'grumpiness'. Sophie said: 'Jamie was like "Oh you're just milking it, you fake all your hormones, there's no such thing". He went "Oh you're just faking all of this." I was like "Oh my god" as I'm lying there with my enormous t*ts out and I can't fit into a single thing.' Recalling the incident in question, she went on: 'We are leaving and I feel really sick this day and Jamie gets his camera out and goes "I'm going to vlog today". Like on my Sunday that I'm about to vomit all day long. 'And what happened was Jamie sits down and he goes "I'm going to call my friends and ask them what I should do about this. Because I'm going to have to leave you. I'm going to leave you because you're just so unbearable right now."' Jokingly pretending to break down in tears, she shared: 'And I went "You're going to leave me and I'm pregnant".' It comes after the couple took to their podcast to tell their fans all about their impeding parenthood for the first time, where Sophie revealed some of the struggles she'd been dealing with in her pregnancy In defence of his actions, Jamie quickly added: 'The amount of people who are going to call me an a*****e. Just a caveat to add - I had no idea the emotional journey that you go on, how your body changes. 'I just didn't understand the extreme things that go on and since having read stuff on Instagram, I am awe of what you go through. The hormone change is wild.' Showing their Chelsea roots, the couple also revealed that Sophie's worst craving so far was for caviar, recounting how they had dashed round London trying to find a shop that was open at 8pm. Jamie explained they eventually found a caviar store only to discover a single pot cost £240, as he declared: 'I was like "Well that craving has to stop there and then". Sophie revealed that after some Googling, she learned it is recommended that pregnant people avoid the expensive delicacy due to the risks of bacteria and mercury. However, she confessed that the risks were the only thing that stopped her eating it, otherwise would not have allowed the hefty price tag to put her off.
