Warwick Davis thanks 'She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named' for helping him love again

Yahoo07-03-2025

Actor Warwick Davis has candidly opened up on 'finding love again'.
He gave an emotional speech at the Baftas last month, referencing his late wife, Samantha, who died last March, aged 53, and their two surviving children.
While receiving his Bafta Fellowship award, the 55-year-old star thanked an anonymous woman called 'Sponge' for their help whilst he grieved.
Speaking on The Jonathan Ross Show, Davis said the woman reminded him of Cooper – who was also on the ITV talk show – playing Kerry Mucklowe in the BBC's Cotswolds-set series This Country.

Davis referenced the name sometimes given to Harry Potter antagonist Lord Voldemort – He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named – to avoid identifying the mystery woman.
He said: 'I can reveal, sticking with the Harry Potter theme, Sponge is indeed She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named.
'Sponge very much reminds me of Kerry. Some of the things she says and her accent.'
Davis was awarded the Bafta Fellowship in February, which is described by the academy as the 'highest accolade Bafta can bestow on any one figure, recognising an exceptional contribution to film, television or games'.
He told Ross how 'supportive' his wife was, saying she always encouraged him despite the difficult hours that came with the job.
The couple co-founded dwarfism charity Little People UK, which helps provide 'friendship and financial support and guidance' to people with the condition and their families and friends.
In his Bafta speech, Davis said: 'I'd like to dedicate and thank my wonderful wife Sammy who died almost a year ago.

'She was always so supportive of my career, encouraged me to grab every opportunity with both hands.
'Since then life has been pretty tough for me but thanks to the support of our wonderful children, Annabelle and Harrison, I have been able to continue working and engaging in life.
'Special mention too should go to 'Sponge', you know who you are. Thank you for showing me that life can still have meaning and for helping me to laugh and love again.'
The Jonathan Ross Show airs on Saturday at 9.20pm on ITV and ITVX.

Willow, 3, meets William and shares her crisps

When Prince William paused to greet three-year-old Willow during a visit to the Royal Cornwall Show, her family never expected a gift to exchange hands. They were taken aback when Willow reached up with a single Quaver - and even more surprised when the prince popped the savoury snack into his jacket pocket. "I don't think I've ever been offered a Quaver before," the prince said. "I'm going to save this and put it in my pocket for later." Grandmother Sharon Hart, who captured the moment on video, told the BBC: "It was a lovely genuine moment and a memory that we will never forget." Ms Hart, from Luxulyan, from Cornwall, said: "I guess he gets some very expensive presents and this was a first. "Willow always wants to be a princess, so the fact she met a real live prince - she thought that was incredible." The Prince of Wales visited the Royal Cornwall Show on Friday, where he toured the exhibits, spoke to visitors and sampled local produce, including Cornish Rattler cider. Prince William, the Duke of Cornwall, is a patron of the Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association, the charity which organises the three-day show. Willow was attending with her family, including brothers Jude, six, and Noah, eight. Ms Hart, 65, said: "He was leaving the Duchy tent when he passed us. "We were just watching and hoping we'd get a glimpse when there was a commotion in front of us and before we knew it Willow was handing out a Quaver. "She's usually quite tight with her Quavers so it obviously meant a lot to her. "He was a real gent, he thanked her and told her he'd never been given a Quaver as a gift." Jodie Hart, Willow's mother, said: "She's had another packet of crisps today and said she wanted to share them with Prince William. "We told her he was probably a little busy." Ms Hart added: "What a lovely man he is and what a gentleman - our grandchildren were thrilled to see him, never mind talk to him. "He just made it so important, it was lovely. His humanity shone through." More news stories for Cornwall Listen to the latest news for Cornwall Follow BBC Cornwall on X, Facebook and Instagram. ‘Bake Off' Champion Presenter Nadiya Hussain Announces On Social Media The BBC Have Axed Cookery Series

One of the BBC's best known TV chefs has announced that her cookery show has been cancelled by the broadcaster. Nadiya Hussain – a former champion on popular TV baking competition The Great British Bake Off – has made several series for the BBC, including Nadiya Bakes, Nadiya's Fast Flavours and Nadiya's Simple Spices. And for me, that was a huge turning point because it's something I've done for the past 10 years. 'I was already on this steady trajectory of change and I was thinking about where I wanted my career to go, and when the BBC decided they didn't want to commission the show anymore, it really did kind of solidify everything for me, and it made me dig my heels in and think 'OK, I know where I want to be'.' BBC News website quotes a spokesperson for the broadcaster confirming: 'After several wonderful series we have made the difficult decision not to commission another cookery show with Nadiya Hussain at the moment.' The statement continued: 'Nadiya remains a much-valued part of the BBC family, and we look forward to working together on future projects.' Hussain's other series for the BBC have included Nadiya's Everyday Baking and Nadiya's Cook Once Eat Twice, as well as the documentary Nadiya: Anxiety and Me. Since her victory on The Great British Bake Off in 2015, Hussain has become one of the UK's most familiar cooking figures, including baking a cake to celebrate HM The Queen's 90th birthday, and writing books alongside her TV work. In the video she posted where she outlined difficulties of being a Muslim woman on screen, Hussain said she was moving in a 'positive direction', adding: 'I'm working on some new things, but for me it's about being my most authentic self, and working with people who believe my voice has a platform, and believing in my talent.'
