‘Stellar Blade' Sequel Confirmed, Possibly Coming In 2026

Forbes20-05-2025

Stellar Blade
Stellar Blade was one of my favorite games of last year, a stellar (ha) action adventure title that did not deserve the culture war nonsense that surrounded it. Now, fans have some good news.
After previously saying a sequel could be in the works, developer SHIFTUP has posted a slide in a recent investor document labelled 'IP expansion on its way with high visibility.'
That includes parts of a graph that label 'platform expansion' and 'sequel' which appear to be placed in the 2026 section of the chart, which would be about two years or so after the first game. That's not exactly common in the gaming sphere these days.
Stellar Blade
The reason for this is that Stellar Blade was a big success for SHIFTUP, financially, critically and with fans. Specifically, Stellar Blade landed a solid 81 metascore among critics and a very high 9.2 among fans.
Stellar Blade has consistently been updated with new features like a boss rush but mainly a slate of new costumes where dozens have been added to the game, acquired in various ways.
I am not quite sure what 'platform expansion' is, though the best guess is that the game may release on other hardware like Xbox, when previously it was a PlayStation exclusive. There's also the question of the upcoming Switch 2 which would likely have the power to run a new game in 2026, and obviously that console is going to sell quite well. However, it's unclear what sort of deal may be in place with PlayStation, whether it was just for one game or any potential sequels. The document does not address that minus the 'platform expansion' bit.

Stellar Blade
This was not exactly some big announcement, buried in an investor document without expanding into detail, but it is not a surprise given past discussion of a potential sequel by the creators of the game. I am still impressed it could be here as soon as 2026, albeit as we know with AAA games, that may end up delayed past whatever the first date or release window is announced.
Hopefully we will get more information soon as we head toward the middle of the year, but for now, I suppose we'll just have to be content with this slide and some speculation.

Ethan Hawke Returns In First Trailer For 'Black Phone 2'

The 2021 horror movie The Black Phone became a surprise horror hit for Blumhouse based on the short story of the same name by author Joe Hill. Because the film was such a hit, earning $161.4 million on a budget between $16-18 million, a sequel was greenlit several years later. Now the full trailer for the follow-up – titled Black Phone 2 – has been released by Universal. Interestingly, the new sequel revolves around the characters from the first film, with the roles having been aged up to reflect the increased age of the actors. Ethan Hawke also returns to play The Grabber, the brutal antagonist of the first film, which this trailer depicts in a more Freddy Krueger style fashion. Here's the official trailer for Black Phone 2 : This trailer for Black Phone 2 puts an emphasis on the tense atmosphere that the film will feature, with an emphasis on its snowy winter setting, something which is a change from the original. Likewise, the footage is grainy and dark, with the signature use of filmic imagery that is enough to make viewers' blood run as cold as the wintery shots depicted. The cast for Black Phone 2 , as the trailer features, includes returning cast members Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora. For Hawke's character, given his fate in the preceding flick, it looks like his role as The Grabber has expanded into a more supernatural threat. Scott Derrickson returned to direct the follow-up for Blumhouse and Universal which was once again written by C. Robert Cargill and Derrickson. The two seem to have cracked a great idea that made producing a sequel a worthwhile endeavor. Black Phone 2 is scheduled to hit theaters later this year on October 17, 2025. Stay tuned to ScreenGeek for any additional updates regarding this highly-anticipated sequel to the horror hit The Black Phone as we have them.

Explaining her resistance to watching his work in films such as the Police Story series and Rumble in the Bronx, the star says his mom, who died in 2002, could not bear to see her son flirt with danger while doing his own stunts. 'She started the movie, starts at the beginning, maybe the credits. [But] when she sees I'm doing a stunt, she turns around,' he says. He continues of his mom, who was 86 when she died, 'When I hit somebody, she didn't want to see. Somebody hit me, she didn't want to see. She never watched a whole movie.' Even though she never watched one of his famous movies in its entirety, Chan assures PEOPLE that Lee-lee, who was a housekeeper, was a big fan of his work. 'She had all my posters,' the actor recalls affectionately. 'She touched and kissed them before sleeping. That's my mom.' I'm especially glad to be publishing it alongside freshly rejacketed editions of the rest of the Bharat Collection for thriller fans everywhere." About The Ayodhya Alliance An ancient secret. A forgotten science. A battle for the future of humanity. Seven thousand years ago, as he lay dying on the battlefield of Lanka, Ravana whispered a secret to Lakshmana about a mysterious technology that held the key to Ayodhya's prosperity and the world's destiny. For centuries, desperately sought by explorers, marauders and emperors alike, it has been kept hidden, safeguarded by warriors bound by an ancient oath. Now, as tensions escalate along India's volatile borders and a crucial defence project teeters on the brink of failure, Indian industrialist Aditya Pillai and South Korean technocrat Somi Kim are thrust into a mission that will upend everything they know. The two realize they must act fast, but never once do they anticipate that they will stumble upon startling revelations about a miraculous force that once connected Ayodhya to Kailasa, the Pandyan Empire, Rome, Damascus, Thailand and Korea. As the forces of past and present collide, a question looms large: who will harness the power of the ultimate enigma, and at what cost? The Ayodhya Alliance spans continents and centuries, seamlessly weaving together science, legend and history in a breathless race against time. In this sweeping, unputdownable story of intrigue, betrayal, survival and love, master storyteller Ashwin Sanghi casts his web wider than ever before, spinning once again a riveting, edge-of-the-seat thriller.
