While Morocco hosts the «African Lion» military exercises, jointly organized by the Royal Armed Forces and their American counterparts, the Chief of Staff of the Algerian Army, Lieutenant General Saïd Chengriha, oversaw live-fire drills in the third military region, near the Moroccan border.
According to Algerian media, the exercise—dubbed «Fortress 2025»—involved units from the operational sector south of Tindouf, supported by various formations and military branches, as part of the 2024–2025 combat readiness program.
Last year, Chengriha also supervised live-fire exercises in the same region, three weeks before the «African Lion» maneuvers, which ran from May 20 to 31.
In 2023, he oversaw similar drills in the third military region, this time two weeks before the start of the joint Moroccan-American exercises.

‘The Goal Is AFCON': Regragui Praises Team's Depth After Latest Victory

Rabat – Morocco's national team coach, Walid Regragui, has hailed the Atlas Lions' impressive 2-0 victory over Tunisia at Fez Stadium, calling it a crucial step in their preparation for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations. Speaking at the post-match press conference, Regragui highlighted the significance of winning the high-stakes Maghreb derby, especially considering the absence of several key players. 'I am very happy with the victory, despite the difficulties we endured,' he said. 'We must not forget that we were missing several key players , yet the win came in a way reminiscent of Tunisia's style — from a corner kick and a last-minute counterattack, which is how Tunisia has historically secured victories in past matches.' Regragui also praised the contribution of the substitutes, emphasizing the depth of Morocco's bench. 'The strength of our bench made a decisive difference, which is very encouraging for me, as our goal for the Africa Cup of Nations demands a squad rich in quality.' Addressing the notable absences of Brahim Diaz , Nayef Aguerd, and Noussair Mazraoui, Regragui offered insight into the precautionary approach taken with Diaz. 'We have a strong and positive relationship with Real Madrid, and we didn't want to risk Brahim by having him play against Tunisia, especially considering the potential for unwanted complications, as the club depends on him for the FIFA Club World Cup,' Regragui explained. The coach went on to reassure fans about Diaz's recovery progress, stressing: 'Thankfully, Brahim is recovering and improving, and I am happy to have him with us despite his injury. His club is closely monitoring and supporting him. This flexibility on our part will keep our relationship with Real Madrid strong.' Expressing gratitude toward the fans, Regragui thanked the supporters in Fez for their passionate backing. He also highlighted the internal competition among players, which he believes strengthens the team. 'Sanad and El Kaabi have pushed En-Nesyri to perform better, and this competition benefits the Moroccan national team.' Yesterday's win over Tunisia extends Morocco's winning streak to 12 matches under Regragui's leadership. Of his tactical approach, Regragui explained that his staff prepared the team thoroughly, especially focusing on set pieces, a critical area they emphasized during training. Both teams came out eager to impose their style, resulting in an intense and balanced first half. Despite some visible fatigue among players after a long and exhausting season, Regragui expressed satisfaction with their effort, stressing that the positive result remains paramount as Morocco continues its preparations for official and friendly matches in 2025. The Moroccan national team is set to play their second friendly match this Monday, June 9, at Fez Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 9:00 PM (GMT+1). Morocco defeats Tunisia 2-0 in friendly match

The Moroccan national football team secured a hard-fought 2–0 victory over Tunisia on Friday night at the Fès Sports Complex in a high-intensity friendly match. The goals came late in the game, with Achraf Hakimi scoring in the 80th minute and Ayoub El Kaabi sealing the win in stoppage time (90+3). This North African derby, played in front of a sold-out crowd, served as a key part of both teams' preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON Morocco 2025). The match also marked the official reopening of the Fès Sports Complex, which had recently undergone renovations ahead of the continental tournament. The encounter proved to be a serious test for the Atlas Lions, reflecting the level of competition they can expect at the AFCON. Tunisia started the game aggressively, dominating possession early and trying to dictate the tempo. However, despite their early pressure and Morocco's initial haste, they failed to seriously challenge goalkeeper Yassine Bounou. Morocco entered the match missing several key players, including Brahim Diaz, Nayef Aguerd, and Abdessamad Ezzalzouli. Coach Walid Regragui opted for a reshuffled starting lineup, with Jawad El Yamiq and Adam Masina forming the central defensive pairing, flanked by full-backs Zakaria Belaamri and Achraf Hakimi.

Morocco Edges Tunisia 2-0 in Friendly Game

Rabat – Morocco secured a solid 2-0 victory over Tunisia on Friday night in a friendly game at the Fez Grand Stadium. The first goal came from Achraf Hakimi, who finally broke the deadlock in the 80th minute. The Paris Saint-Germain defender tapped the ball in from close range after a well-placed cross by Eliesse Ben Seghir following a corner. The goal was long-awaited as Morocco struggled to break down Tunisia's defense. Hakimi, in excellent form after leading PSG to their first-ever Champions League title just last week, once again proved decisive and showed sharp movement and confidence throughout the match. Just when it seemed the match would end 1-0, substitute Ayoub El Kaabi added a second goal during added time, sealing the win and sending Moroccan fans into celebration. It was a tightly contested game with both teams creating chances but struggling to find the back of the net. Morocco dominated much of the second half, with substitutes bringing energy to the attack, especially in the final minutes, as they pushed forward and tested Tunisia's defense. Yassine Bounou made key saves to keep Morocco in the lead, especially denying a dangerous header from Hazem Mastouri in the 74th minute. Both teams used the match to rotate their squads and try different tactical setups. The international friendly is part of both teams' preparation for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The win boosts confidence for the Atlas Lions as they finalize their preparations, where they will be considered one of the tournament favorites. Tunisia, on the other hand, will need to work on finishing and maintaining focus in key moments. The next few weeks will be crucial for both sides as they fine-tune their squads before heading to the continental tournament. Tags: Footballfriendly matchmorocco tunisiasports
