Hasiru Patha will be launched on Saturday: Min Priyank Kharge
During a press conference at the DC's office, he detailed that the Hasiru Patha, Kalyana Patha, and Pragati Patha programmes are focusing on plantation activities, welfare schemes, road development, and essential infrastructure improvements in Karnataka's rural and urban areas.
He elaborated that this five-phase project involves collaboration between multiple entities, including the Kalyana Karnataka Region Development Board, rural development and panchayat raj department, forest department, Kuda, Kalaburagi corporation, and other relevant departments.
With state forest coverage at 22% and the Kalyana Karnataka region at 2%, the forest department initiated the 'Hasiru Patha' programme to increase forest cover through systematic plantation drives. The programme will be launched in Kalaburagi by leader of opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, with forest minister Eshwar Khandre in attendance.
The minister outlined plans to plant saplings across 9,000 hectares along the 1,848 km road network in the Kalyana Karnataka region, allocating Rs 53.5 crore under the Vanamahotsava scheme.
The ''Hasiru Patha' scheme includes plantation along 5,000 km of roadsides across the state under the NREGA scheme. A dedicated application enables geo-tagging and satellite tracking of the planted saplings. Under the 'Manegondu Mara' project, 37,100 saplings are being distributed to households in Kalaburagi city, with an allocation of Rs 60 lakh.
The 'Pragati Patha' scheme involves the development of 8,150 km of rural roads statewide, with an estimated budget of Rs 7,000 crore.
For the Kalyana Karnataka region, road development is allocated at Rs 5,000.
A joint initiative by KKRDB, Corporation, and GDA aims to revitalise 30 parks in Kalaburagi city, alongside the restoration of lakes and kalyanis with Rs 38 crore funding. The first phase encompasses development projects including Appa lake (Rs 3 crore), Khajakotanur lake (Rs 5 crore), Kapanur Kalyani (Rs 10 crore), Bahmani Fort (Rs 19 crore), and the creation of tourist attractions.
Additionally, Rs 30 crore has been allocated for developing 25 junctions and circles in Kalaburagi city. Priyank Kharge emphasised their commitment to maintaining the planted saplings, working towards establishing a clean, attractive, and environmentally sustainable Kalaburagi.

Free bus travel in Andhra for girls, women, transgender persons from Aug 15
Amaravati, Aug 11 (PTI) All girls, women, and transgender persons holding Andhra Pradesh domicile are eligible for free bus travel under the 'Stree Shakti' (woman power) scheme, to be launched statewide on August 15, Principal Secretary (Transport, Roads & Buildings) Kantilal Dande said on Monday. 'Beneficiaries include all girls, women, and transgender persons with domicile status in Andhra Pradesh, subject to presenting valid identity proof," Dande said in a government order. The scheme will be implemented using the existing fleet of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), with additional buses to be procured based on demand, he added. Free travel will apply only to Pallevelugu, Ultra Pallevelugu, City Ordinary, Metro Express, and Express services. It will not cover non-stop services, interstate operations, contract carriages, chartered services, or package tours. Saptagiri Express, Ultra Deluxe, Super Luxury, Star Liner, and all air-conditioned services are also excluded, he said. For passenger safety, the government is considering equipping staff with body-worn cameras and installing CCTV cameras in all buses. Bus stations will see upgraded amenities such as fans, chairs, drinking water, and toilets. Dande said the procurement of electric buses and extending the scheme to them could also be considered, subject to Cabinet approval. Free bus travel for women was a poll promise of the TDP-led NDA government ahead of the 2024 elections. The scheme is estimated to cost Rs 1,942 crore annually—about Rs 162 crore a month—and aims to empower women by improving access to education, jobs, and mobility, Minister K Parthasarathy had earlier said. Devadula project will be a lifeline for Telangana: Minister Uttam
MULUGU: Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy on Sunday reiterated that the Congress government is firmly opposed to the Banakacherla and Polavaram projects being taken up by Andhra Pradesh. Reviewing the J Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) after visiting the Sammakka Sarakka Barrage and off-take point at Gangaram village in Kannaigudem mandal, Uttam said the project would be a lifeline for upland, drought-prone areas of Telangana and stressed the need to complete it at the earliest. Designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Suryapet and Siddipet districts, the scheme involves a total lift of 469 metres — from +71 m to +540 m — and utilisation of 38.16 tmcft over 170 pumping days annually. It is being executed in three phases with major pump houses, rising and delivery mains, balancing reservoirs and an extensive canal network. The revised cost of the project is Rs 18,500 crore, of which Rs 14,168.49 crore has been spent. An additional Rs 4,331.51 crore is needed to clear contractor dues, complete main delivery encasement works and finish pending land acquisition. Once completed, the project will stabilise existing ayacut, supply drinking water to rural areas, improve crop yields and curb migration from water-scarce regions. Uttam noted that the Congress government, led by then AICC president Sonia Gandhi, launched the project in 2004 and is now determined to finish it. He directed officials to prepare lists of land losers, gather details of land under court stay and submit them to the secretary within days. He dismissed BRS claims of Rs 28 lakh crore interest liability on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme as false, blaming the previous government's 'irresponsible' approach for the sinking of piers. 'A priority for the govt' Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asserted that the Devadula project is among the highest priorities of the state government and assured people that funds would be released in phases. Around Rs 100 crore is due for land acquisition, including pending bills. The project is providing irrigation to 17 constituencies, and officials have been instructed to ensure water supply for two crop seasons annually. Originally planned to irrigate 5 lakh acres, the project now covers 6 lakh acres, with potential for further expansion. Vikramarka urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and the irrigation minister to focus special attention on the scheme, noting that water requirement has risen from 38 tmcft to 78–80 tmcft, and called for a review to meet the expanded ayacut's needs. Over 75% of funds have been used Designed to irrigate 5.57 lakh acres across Hanamkonda, Warangal, Karimnagar, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Jangaon, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Suryapet and Siddipet districts, the JCRDLIS involves a total lift of 469 metres — from +71 m to +540 m — and utilisation of 38.16 tmcft over 170 pumping days annually. Under the Home Minister's initiative, Rs 2.10 crore from the Disaster Relief Fund was used for 18 development works, and Rs 4.20 crore was sanctioned for 57 more works, of which 30 have been completed. Plans are afoot to construct a road from Nathavaram to the reservoir at a cost of Rs 8 crore. The Home Minister said the reservoir benefits farmers in Tuni, Payakaraopet and Narsipatnam Assembly constituencies, providing water to 50,000 acres.
