Woman killed by livestock trailer outside farmer's auction market in North Yorkshire
Police are appealing for witnesses after the 74-year-old local woman was fatally injured on Main Street in High Bentham at around 10.15am on Wednesday, 19 February.
Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, she was pronounced dead at the scene, with her family supported by specialist officers.
The driver of the red Scania heavy goods vehicle with a livestock trailer has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
He was taken into custody and questioned. The 48-year-old man from Ryedale has since been released under investigation.
Local diversions remained in place throughout the day until 7pm with the collision scene closed for investigators.
Police believe the woman, who was a pedestrian, and the HGV were heading west down Mount Pleasant before the collision occurred outside the entrance.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: 'If you witnessed the incident or have relevant dashcam footage of the woman or the red Scania HGV with a livestock trailer prior to the collision, please get in touch without delay.'

I think I had less than two seconds to move before getting flattened by the tipper driver.", reports Wales Online. "It was quite difficult, my car is quite low down and the black car (in front) sort of obscured my view. I only really saw the truck - luckily it was yellow, so your peripheral vision can pick up bright colours and stuff. "The black car moved out in front of me, I had a white motorhome beside me and I managed to go in between them. It was just a reflex reaction really. I'm very surprised no-one actually smashed into the truck. "I did speak to the transport company because I wanted to make sure no-one was injured before offering to share the footage. I pulled over straight away and called 999, assuming there was going to be some serious injuries. Fortunately, as far as I'm aware, no one was injured - which is quite remarkable." Peter recorded the shocking scenes on his front and rear dashcams, which had been fitted by the dealership when he bought the car back in December. Peter, who holds an HGV licence himself, said: "You've seen videos of trucks crossing central reservations, but for it to happen straight in front of you is bizarre. "Until I reviewed the video I hadn't even realised I was in the fast lane. In my recall I thought I must have been in the middle lane, there's no way I could have been in the third lane. "I've had two nights of uninterrupted sleep replaying it in my mind, trying to come to terms with basically probably being two seconds from serious injury or even worse." A National Highways spokesperson confirmed no serious injuries had been reported following the smash. Police and paramedics rushed to the scene of the crash. The motorway was shut in both directions for just over an hour, with lanes one and two reopening at around 1.30pm to traffic. Repair work was carried out overnight and the road fully reopened at around 3.30am on Saturday morning, the spokesperson confirmed. Devon and Cornwall Police and South West Ambulance Service were contacted for comment.

Pickering crash driver jailed after woman loses leg
A dangerous driver has been jailed for causing a head-on crash that left a woman with injuries so severe she lost a Danisz Malkowski, 34, was attempting to overtake a car and coach when he ploughed into a Volkswagen driven by Sharon Odell on the A170 near Thornton-le-Dale, on 17 April last Odell, 55, from Pickering, was in a coma for two and a half weeks and required an amputation and other operations, , North Yorkshire Police from Cayton, near Scarborough, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. Fourth person found dead at beneath beauty spot cliff in just four days
A fourth person has been found dead beneath cliffs near Whitby Abbey in just four days. Emergency services were called to the iconic beach 11.01am today after reports a woman's body had been found found at Sandsend near Whitby Abbey. Officers later discovered the body behind the main cark park, below the cliffs. It comes after three other people have been found dead beneath the cliffs this week. A man and woman, believed to be in their 40s, fell to their deaths from 200ft cliffs behind Whitby Abbey on Wednesday evening. Brian Vickers, 63, camping nearby, told MailOnline the path was 'extremely busy with walkers and dog walkers'. He said: 'I was told the couple who died were walking along the path. Another couple were coming the other way. 'The next thing we know is they jumped. It was absolutely horrific to see. The poor souls did not stand a chance. They fell straight onto the rocks below. 'The coastguard helicopter arrived in an hour and we witnessed the horrific scene of them being winched from the beach to waiting ambulances on the cliff top.' A woman aged in her 60s was also found dead by the cliffs near Whitby Pavilion on Thursday. North Yorkshire Police said: 'It has been confirmed that the woman is aged in her 50s and from the local area. 'Officers are supporting the woman's family at this difficult time. 'The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.' The force added: 'There are no connections between this sudden death, the sudden deaths of a man and woman below Whitby Abbey on Wednesday 30 July or the woman below Whitby Abbey on Thursday 31 July.'
