Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek incoming senior athlete Jalen Lott eschewed family ties when it came to making his commitment announcement Tuesday.
Lott also made a unique presentation to the school he plans to attend, which will be Oregon. The four-star Class of '26 recruit made the announcement at a ceremony at the school Tuesday afternoon that was broadcast on the Dave Campbell's Texas Football website.
At his announcement, Lott had four caps on the table which represented his list of finalists - Oregon, along with USC, Texas and LSU - set against a backdrop of Panther Creek logos.

But right before making the announcement, instead of doing what has become routine by picking the hat of the committed school, workers took away the backdrop to reveal a large sealed card. Lott then opened up the card, which folded out to show him wearing an Oregon uniform.

In an interview with Dave Campbell's Texas Football right after the announcement, Lott remarked the relationships with the Oregon coaches - especially head coach Dan Lanning - made Lott sway his favor toward the Ducks.
'Definitely my relationship with Coach Lanning and all of the other coaches; they've been recruiting me for a long time since I really was a freshman,' Lott said. 'So being able to build that relationship with them was the biggest thing for me, just kind of gravitating towards them. … They recruited me for a long time, so being able to go up there multiple times (for visits) every year and obviously getting out there for a game is like a big thing for me.'

Lott, considered the No. 5 athlete in the country by 247Sports, added he likes what he can bring to the Ducks' high-powered offense.
'Definitely just the way they get their athletes the ball in their hands and stuff like that; just letting them move out of open space and not really doing too much with it,' he said.
In addition, Lott disclosed that along with football, he plans to run track at Oregon. He was the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympics champion in the long jump.
'Obviously, they also have a great track program that I'm really interested in, so I plan on doing both when I get there.'

Lott, who goes 6-foot and weighs 170 pounds, caught 85 passes last year for 1,111 yards and scored 16 TDs for a Panther Creek squad which finished 10-2. He also rushed for four TDs and passed for another.
Recently, Lott and his Panther Creek teammates claimed the Texas state Division II 7-on-7 title, and are now determined to do the same in 11-man this fall.
'(We have to just) stay together and be able to step up, now knowing that there's a target on our backs now, so being able to kind of push through that and show everybody what we can do,' said Lott, who was named the event's MVP after scoring the game-winning TD in overtime against Kilgore in the title game.
Lott also went against the grain in his announcement when it came to his family. Both of his parents were athletes at Texas and one of his sisters runs track at USC, with his other sister playing basketball at UNLV.

Why Celtics legend Paul Pierce believes Jayson Tatum will come back strong from injury

The road to recovery could be a long one for Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum. However, another Celtics great, 10-time All-Star Paul Pierce, believes that Tatum is up for the challenge and fully capable of returning to full strength. Late in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals against the New York Knicks, Tatum suffered an Achilles tear that ruled him out for the rest of the series. And although the Celtics haven't officially shut him down for the 2025-26 season, it doesn't seem likely that he'll see the court over the next several months. Yet, none of that shook Pierce's confidence, as the 2008 NBA Finals MVP shared his thoughts on Tatum's rehab process with New England Patriots Hall of Famer Julian Edelman on the "Games With Names" podcast. "Usually an Achilles injury will take you a whole year to get back to work," Pierce told the former wide receiver. "After a whole year, you start getting back. I mean, we got cases of it — Paul George, (Kevin Durant) — they looked good after they came back from an Achilles (injury). So I'm not worried about him getting back to where he was before he got hurt." Despite Philadelphia 76ers star Paul George and Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant both suffering brutal injuries in their primes, both future Hall of Famers remain in the league. Plus, Durant was over 30 years old when he tore his Achilles and still managed to get back to his old self. Tatum hasn't even turned 28, which bodes well for his injury maintenance. Regardless of age, recovering from an Achilles injury is a grueling ordeal that requires daily work. But, if Tatum has shown anything during his impressive career, it's that he's willing to do whatever it takes to play the game he loves. Should Joe Burrow be a betting favorite for MVP this season?

Yahoo Sports' Jason Fitz and Caroline Fenton are joined by Yahoo Sports senior sports betting analyst Ben Fawkes to discuss which players have the best odds to win MVP this upcoming season. View more Video Transcript What does the fox say, Joe Burrow or the field for MVP? Yeah, the fox says the field, right? Especially at those odds. Uh, I just wrote a newser at Yahoo Sports yesterday. The public loves Joe Burrow. They are betting him hand over fist to win MVP. Uh, right now he is tied for the second choice at 600 with Josh Allen. Lamar Jackson is the favorite at plus 550 at Bet MGM, but Burrow has the most bets around. Uh, 16%, and the most money around 24% of total dollars wagered, and that's at Bet MGM. But at multiple sportsbooks, uh, that I checked in with, Burrow is number one in tickets and number one in handles. So, the public is definitely liking Joe Burrow, as we discussed, a lot of that I think is a combination of probably a really bad defense, not that difficult to schedule. And also Burrow just being a really good quarterback, putting up big numbers, obviously having Ja'Marr Chase and T. Higgins. We expect that offense to be good. The big questions are obviously on defense, so you expect him to put up big numbers. He did that last year. They only went 9 and 8. So that's also a question. Uh, he was also third in QBR behind Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. So really good season last year. Can he do better this season? The big bets, though, on Lamar Jackson, two big bets out there, both $5,000 on Lamar Jackson, one at plus 550, one at 6 to 1. So that would win $275,000 and $300,000. So a lot of those big bets on Lamar Jackson. And I would be remiss to say as well if I didn't say that Washington Commanders quarterback Jahan Dotson is second most money and second most tickets at Bet MGM to win MVP. So, like we talked about, he had a historic rookie season. Betters think he could be in for even more in his sophomore season. Close

Cowboys Named as Landing Spot for Colts QB Anthony Richardson

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The 2025 campaign will mark the tenth year the Cowboys will enter the regular season with Dak Prescott as their starting quarterback. In light of him reaching the latter stages of his career, the iconic franchise has been linked to a potential successor for the 32-year-old. Prescott isn't far removed from being in the MVP race. That said, the Cowboys still need to keep an eye on the future. Especially considering he is coming off an injury-ridden campaign that limited him to just eight games. Now fully healthy again, Prescott is eager to return to the player he was in 2023. However, with quarterback being such a crucial position, Dallas should be eyeing someone who can take the reins when it comes time. Photo by/Getty Images Cowboys named among possible landing spots for Anthony Richardson Heading into training camp, one QB battle everyone had their eyes on was within the Indianapolis Colts. Earlier this week, a final decision was made. Despite recently selecting Anthony Richardson with a top-five pick, the Colts are going with Daniel Jones to open the year. In light of Richardson being moved to a backup role, speculation has arisen of Indianapolis potentially moving on from the young QB. It's worth noting that, as of now, there have been no reports of the front office actually considering such a move. As this discourse continues, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox compiled a list of possible landing spots for Richardson if he were dealt. Among the group of teams brought up was the Cowboys. "Prescott has accumulated a sizeable injury history over the years and, at 32, won't suddenly become more durable. The Cowboys need a backup they can believe in, and they lost a good one when Cooper Rush departed this offseason," Knox wrote. "Dallas traded for Joe Milton III, but he hasn't looked particularly good in the preseason. Richardson would probably be a better Plan B than either Milton or Will Grier, and it's not hard to envision Jerry Jones making a play for him." Also read: Stephen A. Smith Echoes Harsh Micah Parsons Reality for Cowboys Richardson is still a bit of an unknown in the NFL, as injuries have limited him. He's started in just 15 games over the past two years, posting an 8-7 record in that time. While the Cowboys are still clearly committed to Prescott moving forward, making a move for Richardson might be worth kicking the tires on. He is someone they can develop behind the scenes for the future and can be a viable option in the event Prescott falls victim to another injury.
