Western Mass. man sentenced to prison for raping a woman

A Housatonic man convicted of raping a woman in 2018 was sentenced to prison on Wednesday, Berkshire County District Attorney Timothy Shugrue's office said.
In Berkshire Superior Court, Timothy Formel, 35, was sentenced to four to five years in State Prison, Shugrue's office said in a statement. A jury found Formel guilty on May 9.
Early on May 26, 2018, Formel raped a woman in New Marlborough, a previous statement read.
The woman testified against Formel in court, which Shugrue commended for her bravery.
The case was investigated by the Berkshire State Police Detective Unit assigned to the district attorney's office.

First responders provided first aid to five people in the car before they were taken to local hospitals, the statement continued. All of the people are in stable condition. The investigation into the chase and crash continues. State Police will announce charges in connection with the chase. PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A North Adams man pleaded guilty to five charges involving assaulting a child in Berkshire Superior Court on Thursday. Springfield man sentenced to life for 2021 Chicopee murder Berkshire District Attorney's Office Chief of Operations Julia Sabourin shared in a news release that in 2022, 37-year-old Jesriel Morales of North Adams allegedly assaulted a six-year-old child. Morales reportedly slammed the child into a window and wall, hit them with a belt, slapped them, and forced them to kneel on dried rice. On Thursday, Morales pleaded guilty to three counts of Aggravated Assault and Battery with a Dangerous Weapon on a Child and two counts of Assault and Battery. He was sentenced to two and a half years in the Berkshire House of Corrections, followed by two years of probation. Morales was also ordered by the judge to have no contact with the victim and to participate in the Fatherhood program. 'I am pleased with the guilty plea,' said Berkshire District Attorney Timothy Shugrue. 'Jesriel Morales preyed on the most innocent member of society. Today, my thoughts are with the very young victim. I hope this conclusion provides them some peace and feeling of safety and security.' The suspect in a wrong-way crash that killed an Endicott College police sergeant on Thanksgiving morning has been extradited to New Hampshire, according to New Hampshire State Police. Keoma Duarte, 40, of New Bedford, was brought from Bristol County Jail and House of Correction in Dartmouth to Rockingham County Department of Corrections in New Hampshire on Tuesday. He was arraigned in Hampton District Court on Wednesday on two felony counts of reckless conduct and one misdemeanor count of disobeying an officer. According to New Hampshire State Police, Duarte was driving north in a Tesla on Interstate 95 in Hampton on the night of Nov. 27 and entered the parking lot of the New Hampshire Liquor and Wine Outlet on the same side of the highway, which was closed. He drove through the parking lot before getting back onto the highway going the wrong direction at about 11:45 p.m. Less than one minute later, New Hampshire state troopers saw the Tesla headed south on the north side of the road. New Hampshire police tried to stop the driver, followed by members of Massachusetts State Police after he crossed the border between the two states. In Newbury, the car struck another vehicle head-on, killing the driver, Jeremy Cole, 49, of Exeter, New Hampshire. Duarte was also injured in the crash and was brought to the hospital for treatment. Medical records showed his blood alcohol level at 0.19%, MassLive previously reported. The legal limit in Massachusetts is 0.08%. Police also found marijuana in the car and a burnt smell of marijuana. In Massachusetts, Duarte was charged with motor vehicle homicide while operating under the influence of liquor, operating recklessly, manslaughter, and motor vehicle homicide by reckless operation, in addition to civil motor vehicle infractions for driving in the wrong direction on a state highway, speeding and marked lane violations.
