Ranchi: The city has experienced significant damage due to continuous heavy rainfall since Tuesday, affecting roads and causing waterlogging in numerous areas and educational institutions.
The city received 47.2 mm rain in the last 24 hours. The rainfall has severely impacted traffic movement and created difficulties for residents and commuters throughout the city.
The heavy precipitation has led to widespread power disruptions across the district. Near Birsa Chowk, the road leading to the state secretariat developed a pothole, significantly affecting traffic flow. Traffic police arrived to manage the situation.
Additionally, the Namkum-Rampur road sustained damage from the continuous rainfall.
The executive engineer of Ranchi road division, Ram Badan Singh, was unavailable for comment regarding road reconstruction plans. A senior district administration official indicated that they are currently assessing the extent of road damage.
The last 24 hours of rainfall have submerged substantial portions of Ranchi, particularly affecting Bahu Bazar, Chutia, Kantatoli, Upper Bazar, Ratu Road's Panchsheel Nagar, Daily Market Road, and areas near Jaipal Singh Stadium.

The waterlogging has disrupted traffic patterns, affected pedestrian movement, and highlighted issues with the city's drainage system.
"I had to wade through knee-deep water just to get to the main road. This happens every monsoon. No matter how many times we complain, the water keeps coming back because the drains don't work," said Ajay Sinha, a resident of Panchsheel Nagar. Shopkeepers in Upper Bazar and Daily Market reported reduced customer visits and concerns about inventory damage.
"The water reaches inside the shops if the rain doesn't stop. We lose customers and goods every time it rains like this," said grocery store owner Rashmi Gupta from Daily Market Road. Assistant municipal commissioner Niharika Tirkey acknowledged that despite pre-monsoon drain cleaning, certain areas remain problematic. "We'll reassess such spots. Narrow drains may require widening. Supervisors are checking overflow points, and necessary action will follow," she said.
"Stagnant water has been here since last night, and mosquitoes are already breeding. If this is just the start of the monsoon, I dread to think what July will bring. We've been demanding proper drainage and covered sewers for years, but nothing seems to change. We need long-term solutions, not just patchwork before every rain," said Suresh Kumar, a resident of Chutia.

Schools in city to remain closed today
1 2 Ranchi: All govt, govt-aided (including minority), and private schools operating in the district will remain closed on Thursday in view of a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Centre, Jharkhand. The decision to close schools was taken by the district administration and district education officer as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of students and staff. The district administration said that any violation of this order will attract strict action under the relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005. According to the IMD bulletin on Wednesday, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected across the state till June 21, with the district specifically marked as a 'Red Zone' on June 19 due to the likelihood of extremely heavy downpour. Additionally, in response to the alert, the district administration has outline a detailed action plan for emergency preparedness across departments and communities. The district panchayati raj officer has been directed to circulate information about the red alert and safety guidelines through local leaders and mukhiya groups, particularly in rural areas. KRS dam water level rises rapidly due to heavy rainfall
Mandya/Mysuru: Krishna Raja Sagar (KRS) Dam is witnessing a rapid rise in water levels due to heavy rainfall in the catchment areas of Cauvery River . In just 12 hours, the dam recorded an increase of nearly two and a half feet in water level. As of 6pm on Tuesday, the water level stood at 110.9 feet, compared to the maximum capacity of 124.8 feet. By Wednesday, the level rose to around 113.3 feet, thanks to a robust inflow of 29,368 cusecs. The outflow was measured at 1,024 cusecs. In contrast, the water level on the same day last year was just 87 feet. This year's early surge has brought relief to farmers, as nearby lakes and ponds are also filling up, improving the groundwater situation and ensuring better irrigation prospects. Usually, after it crosses 100 feet, it takes time, but here, due to heavy rain in the catchment area, including in Madikeri and Harangi Dam, the water to KRS Dam increased enormously. Officials say that if the current inflow — hovering around 30,000 cusecs — continues, the dam is likely to reach its full capacity within the next five days. The maximum level of the dam is 2,284 feet. With close to 2 TMC ft of water let into the river, a flood-like situation prevails downstream of the dam and in the temple town of Nanjangud. On Wednesday, the intensity of rain came down both in the Mysuru region and Malnad. However, the dams continued to receive a good inflow. People staying on the banks of the rivers Hemavathi and Kapila are advised to move to safe places as a precautionary measure. Hemavati Dam in Hassan district is receiving 19,546 cusecs of water. The water level touched 2,911.35 feet against the maximum level of 2,922 feet. Following heavy rain in the neighbouring state of Kerala, the vegetable supply was disrupted, resulting in a steep drop in prices in Mysuru. According to farmers, the price of tomatoes fell to Rs 6/kg in the wholesale market, causing them a huge loss. The quality of tomatoes also came down due to rain, affecting the price.
