The Pitt viewers stunned by ‘remarkable' reveal in season one finale

Independent11-04-2025

The debut season of The Pitt has officially come to an end, with one scene leaving fans particularly emotional.
Max's new medical drama, which has become an instant hit with viewers, follows the chaotic events of a 15-hour shift of Dr. Michael 'Robby' Robinavitch (played by ER alum Noah Wyle) and his group of doctors and nurses at an underfunded Pittsburgh hospital. Each episode spans an hour of the shift.
*Warning — Spoilers for the season one finale of 'The Pitt' to follow*
In the season one finale — released Thursday — audiences are finally clued into what makes each character tick. Up until this point, the show had only revealed brief details about the doctors' personal lives.
However, once their grueling and emotionally taxing shift draws to a close, that's when the true healing begins. As each doctor is freed from the confines of the hospital — where they have just witnessed a series of traumatic events, including a mass shooting, a drowned child, and a case of molestation — they are left to try and cope with all the horror they've seen.
After finding Dr. Robby having an emotional breakdown on the roof of the hospital, Dr. Abbott (Shawn Hatosy) invites him to join a group at a nearby park for a beer.
There, they all debrief on the day they've had. While settling into the park bench, Dr. Abbott, a war veteran who calmly led the ER amid the influx of shooting victims, casually removes his prosthetic leg. Although it had previously been disclosed that Dr. Abbott was a military vet, this was the first time he was confirmed as an amputee — and the subtlety of the scene has not been lost on fans.
'I will never get over this reveal,' one wrote on X. 'it was so well done and added even more depth to Abbot's character. It was a truly remarkable scene and I praise the writers of The Pitt for including this very much needed representation on television.'
'The way it was so casual as well. Impeccable writing,' a second wrote, with a third agreeing: 'It was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, my favorite moment of the series from a story telling standpoint.'
Another found that the moment added 'so much depth to his character and backstory without it being the main thing that defines him.'
The Pitt, which has since been renewed for a season two, made headlines before its January debut when the estate of ER creator Michael Crichton sued Warner Bros. Television, accusing the series of being an unauthorized reboot of the hit emergency room drama. Warner Bros. TV has denied the allegations, calling them 'false' and 'meritless.'
Earlier this week, Wyle, who's also named as a Plaintiff in the lawsuit, broke his silence on the matter, saying that he felt 'profoundly sad and disappointed' by the allegations.
'This taints the legacy, and it shouldn't have,' he told Variety. 'At one point, this could have been a partnership. And when it wasn't a partnership, it didn't need to turn acrimonious. But on the 30th anniversary of ER, I've never felt less celebratory of that achievement than I do this year.'
Season one of The Pitt is available to stream on Max.

Stranger Things series five hopes as fans share theory for two characters

Netflix Stranger Things season five has stirred up excitement among fans as they took to Reddit to share their hopes for two key characters' blossoming romance. Stranger Things series five will debut in three volumes later this year. Four episodes on November 26, three episodes at Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year's Eve. The fifth and final season kicks off in the fall of 1987. 'Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,' the official Netflix synopsis reads. ‌ Ahead of the new series, fans took to discussion platform Reddit to share their hopes that Max and Lucas get their well-deserved happy ending. ‌ "Please just give these two a happy ending…," one fan wrote alongside a slideshow of photos of the pair. Fans were quick to weigh in with their opinions on the thread, echoing their love for the 'shipment' of the couple. One fan wrote: "The most non serious couple and then BOOM, season 4, the way how Lucas stuck by her, the way she still relied on him even after distancing herself from him, him being her safe place … such maturity and growth as a couple. I'm all for it." "Yes it all hit surprisingly hard. It really was sweet and beautiful," someone else echoed. One fan responded, "I agree I like the couple it's my second favorite aside from mike and eleven." Someone else quipped: "Yes please. Of all the couples in Stranger Things I think this is the one I feel the strongest about, as it stands now." Another fan added: "I really want Max and Lucas to get their movie date and for Joyce and Hopper to get their dinner date at Enzo's." ‌ However, not all viewers were hopeful of a happily ever after for Max and Lucas. "Duffer brothers laughing right now," pointed out one fan, which was upvoted over 500 times. Adding to the above sentiment, one fan said: "Yeah... I don't think you've been paying attention if you think this has a happy ending..." ‌ One fan shared a more in-depth theory why Max and Lucas could walk away unscathed. They explained: "Season Finale, ending montage sequence: life getting back to normal, Vecna defeated, portal gates sealed for good. Different shots of the various characters getting their lives back together, leading to: A sunny day. The camera closely tracks a slow-rolling skateboard in a park, a red-sneakered pair of feet planted on top. Another pair of feet keep pace alongside." They continued: "Camera cuts to a wider shot; we see Max atop the skateboard, wobbling slightly as she regains her strength and balance, being steadied by Lucas walking alongside her as he helps her re-learn her past ability. Another wobble, Lucas grabs her and keeps her upright. The trust between them is unquestionable." "The two exchange glances, their wide smiles turning to laughter. We can tell that these two are gonna be alright. Please, Duffers. Please!," they concluded. One fan responded, "This really hit me. I hope something like this happens," however someone was less convinced, adding "referring back to this comment when the trauma inevitably happens."

The Wanted's Max George gives health update following second major heart surgery

The star had heart surgery initially in December and then again in February. Max George has given his fans a health update after he had his second heart surgery. Back in December, The Wanted singer was rushed into hospital when his mum noticed he had turned blue. Doctors told the 36 year old that his heart was dangerously weak, and just before Christmas he had to be fitted with a pacemaker. Max's girlfriend, EastEnders actress Maisie Smith, 23, has been supporting him during his recovery and was also by his side when he had to have a second heart operation in February. ‌ The second surgery meant that Max had to cancel a planned live show with The Wanted's new two-member lineup, which includes bandmate Siva Kaneswaran. ‌ However, Max's recovery has been going well, meaning he can get back out to work and has even hit the road on tour with Maisie. The pair toured the UK in Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds and Max will also be back on stage with Siva. In an update, Max explained his is now feeling "great", he told Heat magazine: "It's probably taken me until about the last two weeks to almost fully recover where I feel normal." "When I wake up in the morning, my energy's much higher now. I'm getting there. It's taken a while, but I feel really good." Bandmate Siva added: "You've come a long way. I'm very proud of you. You should have seen him in January or February, we're very lucky that he's recovered very fast... I'd let him know if he was lagging!" Max said that his theatre tour was "tiring" because he was still in recovery. "It was more stubbornness than anything because I really wanted to experience doing that show with Maisie so I was going to do it no matter what." ‌ The singer insisted he is now in a "really, really good position" regarding his health and is ready for his tour with Siva. "I'm just ready for this now and it feels so natural that, even when I'm not 100%, I still feel great doing it," he said. The Wanted was made up of Max, Siva Kaneswaran, Jay McGuiness, Nathan Sykes and the late Tom Parker who tragically died in 2022 at the age of 33 following a cancer battle. However, Max and Siva decided to continue performing. Max and Siva formed 'The Wanted 2.0' and Max announced last year that he would be hitting the road with his bandmate to entertain fans across North America as well as the UK. Due to his health, Max had a setback as he had to undergo a second emergency surgery after his pacemaker was fitted incorrectly. He shared that he had to go to hospital again to fix the issues, and admitted that he was going through a 'pretty rough time.' Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!

It turned out that one of the leads was placed too far into my heart. The second surgery took about 2 hours. Luckily, it was a success and they kindly let me listen to Oasis the whole time. "It's been a setback, but it's just one of those things. I've had a few complications the last couple of months but I'm having loads of tests to make sure everything is all good. "It can take a few weeks / months for the inflammation of my heart to subside (myocarditis) but I'm sure I'll be back on top form in no time! Thanks everyone for all your lovely messages and support through what's been a pretty rough time. Means a lot.'
