Stranger Things series five hopes as fans share theory for two characters

Daily Record4 days ago

Netflix Stranger Things season five has stirred up excitement among fans as they took to Reddit to share their hopes for two key characters' blossoming romance.
Stranger Things series five will debut in three volumes later this year. Four episodes on November 26, three episodes at Christmas, and the finale episode on New Year's Eve.
The fifth and final season kicks off in the fall of 1987. 'Hawkins is scarred by the opening of the Rifts, and our heroes are united by a single goal: find and kill Vecna,' the official Netflix synopsis reads.

Ahead of the new series, fans took to discussion platform Reddit to share their hopes that Max and Lucas get their well-deserved happy ending.

"Please just give these two a happy ending…," one fan wrote alongside a slideshow of photos of the pair. Fans were quick to weigh in with their opinions on the thread, echoing their love for the 'shipment' of the couple.
One fan wrote: "The most non serious couple and then BOOM, season 4, the way how Lucas stuck by her, the way she still relied on him even after distancing herself from him, him being her safe place … such maturity and growth as a couple. I'm all for it."
"Yes it all hit surprisingly hard. It really was sweet and beautiful," someone else echoed. One fan responded, "I agree I like the couple it's my second favorite aside from mike and eleven."
Someone else quipped: "Yes please. Of all the couples in Stranger Things I think this is the one I feel the strongest about, as it stands now."
Another fan added: "I really want Max and Lucas to get their movie date and for Joyce and Hopper to get their dinner date at Enzo's."

However, not all viewers were hopeful of a happily ever after for Max and Lucas. "Duffer brothers laughing right now," pointed out one fan, which was upvoted over 500 times.
Adding to the above sentiment, one fan said: "Yeah... I don't think you've been paying attention if you think this has a happy ending..."

One fan shared a more in-depth theory why Max and Lucas could walk away unscathed. They explained: "Season Finale, ending montage sequence: life getting back to normal, Vecna defeated, portal gates sealed for good. Different shots of the various characters getting their lives back together, leading to: A sunny day. The camera closely tracks a slow-rolling skateboard in a park, a red-sneakered pair of feet planted on top. Another pair of feet keep pace alongside."
They continued: "Camera cuts to a wider shot; we see Max atop the skateboard, wobbling slightly as she regains her strength and balance, being steadied by Lucas walking alongside her as he helps her re-learn her past ability. Another wobble, Lucas grabs her and keeps her upright. The trust between them is unquestionable."
"The two exchange glances, their wide smiles turning to laughter. We can tell that these two are gonna be alright. Please, Duffers. Please!," they concluded.
One fan responded, "This really hit me. I hope something like this happens," however someone was less convinced, adding "referring back to this comment when the trauma inevitably happens."

Psychological thriller labelled a ‘masterpiece' free to stream on BBC iPlayer

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video A 'masterpiece' psychological thriller is making its way to BBC iPlayer. Released in 2021, The Power of the Dog stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Jesse Plemons, and Kirsten Dunst and is based on the 1967 novel of the same name by Thomas Savage. The film follows wealthy ranching brothers Phil (Cumberbatch) and George Burbank (Plemons) who meet widow Rose (Dunst) and her son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee) during a cattle drive. The volatile and brash Phil takes a dislike to Rose, but George strikes up a relationship with her – which eventually leads them to marry – and Rose and Peter to move to the Burbank ranch house. As Phil taunts Rose, he appears to take Peter under his wing, but his intentions don't seem as clear-cut to Rose. For those who didn't catch the award-winning hit, or just want to rewatch, it is now free to stream on BBC iPlayer, as well as Netflix. The Power of the Dog proved an instant hit following its premiere at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, garnering a whopping 12 Oscar nominations and seven Golden Globe nods. It is often cited as one of the best films of 2021, and indeed of the decade as a whole, and was named one of the best films of 2021 by the American Film Institute. It currently holds a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with the critics' consensus reading: 'Brought to life by a stellar ensemble led by Benedict Cumberbatch, The Power of the Dog reaffirms writer-director Jane Campion as one of her generation's finest filmmakers.' Metro critic Tori Brazier dubbed the film a 'taut and emotional epic' in her review, adding: 'A rich and detailed character study for each of its excellent four leads – and especially Cumberbatch and Smit-McPhee, who is an admirable scene partner – The Power of the Dog brings everything you'd expect, and hope for, from the writer and director of The Piano. 'The film is like watching a play, so focused is it on the minutiae of seemingly small human actions and emotions, and so nuanced in its storytelling.' The New York Times wrote: 'The Power of the Dog builds tremendous force, gaining its momentum through the harmonious discord of its performances, the nervous rhythms of Jonny Greenwood's score and the grandeur of its visuals.' More Trending USA Today lauded The Power of the Dog a 'picturesque, enthralling exploration of male ego and toxic masculinity, crafted by an extremely talented woman and offering enough nuanced bite to keep it interesting till the very end.' InSession Film said: 'Much has already been said about Jane Campion's western masterpiece, and for good reason. It is indeed truly great. Benedict Cumberbatch gives a career-best performance.' Heaping praise on Cumberbatch, with Ty Burr writing on his Substack: 'How do we know Benedict Cumberbatch is a serious thespian? Because we have no idea who he is offscreen. He's just entirely the role he's playing at any given moment, and those roles change radically.' The Power of the Dog is streaming on BBC iPlayer and Netflix Got a story? Amazon Prime viewers urged to binge 'best show on TV' this weekend

The Exorcist was cancelled after just two seasons due to low ratings, but it still has a huge following of fans who have praised it as one of the best horror series on TV Amazon Prime Video subscribers are racing against time to devour what enthusiasts have dubbed "one of the best horror shows on television". The Exorcist, a familiar tale to those who relish in frights, was reborn as a television series in 2016. ‌ Drawing inspiration from William Peter Blatty's 1971 novel, the series was billed as "a modern reinvention" of the "propulsive, serialized, psychological thriller". ‌ Set within the universe of the iconic 1973 movie, it weaves a sequel narrative that nods to elements of the original story. Starring Alfonso Herrera, Ben Daniels, Kurt Egyiawan, Hannah Kasulka, Geena Davis, and Alan Ruck, The Exorcist delves into the terror of a family under siege by supernatural forces. The plot thickens as a mother, plagued by nightmarish visions and her husband's mental unravelling, seeks help for the eerie disturbances threatening her daughters, leading to an alliance with church leaders and a battle against malevolent entities. A Reddit user extolled the virtues of the show, stating: "Both seasons are worth watching, especially since they're only 10 episodes each. I found the first season to be great and the second season to be even better. It was one of the best shows on television if you ask me. The quality of it in every aspect blew me away to be honest, I was so disappointed when I found out it was cancelled." Another commented: "Bro, I couldn't believe when it was cancelled. This show caught me TOTALLY by surprise. I figured it'd be dumb AF and cheesy but NOPE. The acting is unbelievable, the music sublime, and the storyline was deftly crafted. It wasn't just was REALLY good." ‌ "I watched both seasons and thought the cast was great and it was very well written. I loved it. I just wish it hadn't been on Fox so we would have got more seasons. It was definitely one of the best shows you're not watching. Fairly original take," a third chimed in with high praise. On the Rotten Tomatoes platform, the show's first season achieved an impressive 79% rating, complemented by a nearly flawless 91% audience approval score. Yet the second series managed to outdo its predecessor with a pristine 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, alongside a formidable 90% from viewers. ‌ "The best horror series I ever watched. I truly loved the series and can't stop watching," lauded a fan. "Gripping, sucked me in straight away. Three episodes in I stopped and decided to wait till the weekend so I could binge," opined another viewer. Though The Exorcist faced cancellation due to lacklustre ratings, creator Jeremy Slater had previously hinted at exciting future prospects. Speaking to TV Line, he teased: "There may even be a potential for telling stories that are happening on branching timelines and flashbacks and different things like that." The Exorcist is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
