After Haryana success, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' to grow deep roots across India
'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' will be launched nationwide on Thursday by
Prime Minister Narendra Modi
, with an ambitious target of planting 10 crore trees across India. As the city grapples with rising temperatures and shrinking green cover, 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0' offers a hopeful reminder: Every act of remembrance can also be an act of renewal.
From banyan trees planted for grandmothers to flowering gulmohars for mothers who loved colour, each sapling carries a handwritten tag with a name and a message of love.
Volunteers have also pledged to care for the trees, ensuring they grow into lasting symbols of gratitude.
In the previous phase, Haryana was assigned a target of 1.6 crore plantations but exceeded expectations by planting 1.8 crore saplings, showcasing its strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
This year, the state is preparing a comprehensive action plan to scale up the initiative. The focus will be on expanding participation by involving schools, residential welfare associations (RWAs) and corporate offices.
Haryana's principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) Vineet Kumar Garg told TOI, "All land-owning departments, students, RWAs and corporates will be told to participate in the programme. This time the slogan is: Whole govt and whole society. This means that govt and society need to come together for this drive. In the first phase, 51 departments in Haryana along with civil society carried out the plantation of 1.87 crore saplings.

No country told India to halt military operation after Pahalgam terror attack: PM Modi in Lok Sabha
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha that after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, no country told India to halt its military operation against terror bases in Pakistan. He made the remarks after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi asked in Parliament why countries only denounced terrorism, and not Pakistan, after the attack. In response, Modi said that out of 193 countries, only three made statements in support of Pakistan after India's military operation on May 7. 'Be it the Quad or BRICS, India got support from all over the world.' The Quad, or Quadrilateral Security Dialogue, is a grouping comprising India, the United States, Australia and Japan. The BRICS grouping comprises India, Brazil, Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Modi on Tuesday told the Lok Sabha that India's military operation in May showed that 'nuclear blackmailing' by Pakistan was no longer an effective strategy. 'By showcasing its technical expertise, India conducted precise strikes deep within enemy territory,' the prime minister said. 'These operations inflicted significant damage on Pakistan's airbases and military assets, rendering many of their airbases non-operational to this day.' Modi added that the operation showed that any assault on Indian soil by militants would lead to 'a decisive and fitting response on India's own terms'. It also demonstrated that 'there will be no distinction between a government that harbours terrorists and the masterminds behind such acts of terror,' he asserted.
