Chhatrapur IIC suspended for indiscipline, SI held for raping home guard's wife
According to a notification issued by the state police headquarters, IIC of Chhatrapur police station Debashish Mohanty was placed under suspension for indiscipline and poor conduct. During the suspension period, Mohanty will be under the disciplinary control of the IG, Southern Range at Berhampur. He will draw subsistence and dearness allowances as per Rule 90 of the Odisha Service Code.
The action was taken against Mohanty in exercise of the power conferred under Rule 840 of the Police Manual Rules, 1940. The Chamakhandi IIC has been given additional charge of Chhatrapur police station.
Ganjam SP Subhendu Patra said Mohanty was suspended for not obeying instructions of senior officers and addressing public grievances besides poor station management. He was also misbehaving with the public, Patra added.
Similarly, SI of Kotgarh police station Smruti Sagar Samal was arrested on charges of raping a home guard's wife. Sources said during his stint at Gochhapada police station, Samal allegedly raped the home guard's wife several times. He allegedly forced her to keep physical relationship with him by threatening to implicate her husband in false cases.
After the victim lodged a complaint with Kotgarh police, IIC Chiranibi Nayak arrested Samal. The accused SI was produced in court and remanded in judicial custody.

Guwahati: Assam Rifles , in collaboration with IIIT Manipur , signed a Memorandum of Understanding to promote drone technology for defence and security. One notorious ganja peddler held, 22-kg ganja seized
Nellore: In a joint operation by Eagle team and local police headed by Balaji Nagar Circle Inspector K Sambasiva Rao, raids were conducted and a 51-year-old person allegedly responsible for smuggling ganja was arrested. The police seized 22-kg ganja and a car from him at SVGS College Grounds in the city on Sunday. The accused was identified as Beekara Prakash@ B Suryaprakash (51) of Krishna Nagar in Rajahmundry town of East Godavari district. Speaking to the mediapersons at SVGS College along with SP, Eagle Team Inspector General R K Ravikrishna has said that following a tip-off, Balaji Nagar CI Sambasiva Rao along with the Eagle team, conducted raids at SVGS on the accused and caught him while he was in possession of 22-kg ganja. The police seized a Maruthi Swift Car AP10 AY 5649 from him on the spot. The IG said that on the occasion, Balaji Nagar CI K Sambasiva Rao has fired two rounds at the accused when he tried to drive the vehicle towards police. The IG said that one constable Paton Firoz was injured as he got hit by the car and he was shifted to Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore city. The IG narrated that the accused used to bring ganja from Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district and sell the intoxicant substance to some people in Nellore city. The IG said that several cases have been registered against the accused (Beekara Prakash) over his alleged involvement in ganja smuggling in East Godavari, Eluru and Nellore districts. He said that as part of initiative in preventing ganja smuggling and narcotics, police department has launched two operations one is 'Operation Eagle' meant to eradicate ganja smuggling in the trains and another is 'Operation Garuda' aimed to seize unauthorized drugs in the medical stores. He said that under Operation Eagle, 23,000 kg of ganja was seized till date. The IG appealed to the people to inform the police if they notice ganja smuggling as their details were hide in secret. On the occasion, the IG visited constable Payon Firoz who is undergoing treatment at GGH in the city. Additional SP CH Soujanya, Nellore City DSP Sindhu Priya and others were present.

22-year-old assaulted for ‘refusing to give Rs 50,000 Ganesh Puja donation', 3 arrested
A 22-year-old man was brutally assaulted by a group of men in Belgharia's Colony Bazar area on Friday night after he allegedly refused to pay donation for Ganesh Puja, said police. Aditya Mohanty, a resident of Ward Number 25 under Kamarhati Municipality, was admitted to a hospital with severe injuries in his head and eyes. According to the police, Mohanty's family alleged that their son had been protesting against anti-social activities in the local club and had refused to pay a donation of Rs 50,000 for Ganesh Puja demanded by local goon Rohit Singh. 'My son was returning home on his bike when five to six men, who were sitting in the local club, attacked him. One of them pushed his bike and injured his leg, and then started hitting him with iron rods and bricks. They rained punches on him, which injured his eye. They hit his head with a brick. They then pushed him in a drain. If we had not reached the spot, they could have killed my son,' Aditya's father Ashok K Mohanty said. The police arrested Rohit Singh, Sayan Das, and Sourav Dutta on Saturday in connection with the incident from Barrackpore and Taki. The Barrackpore court on Sunday granted all three one-day judicial custody. The police have sought their custody to interrogate them about the whereabouts of the other accused, who are still absconding. A total of six persons have been named in the FIR. According to police sources, Singh was not present at the scene of the incident, but allegedly ordered his men to assault Mohanty. Singh has a history of alleged criminal activities, with over four cases registered against him since 2017, including allegations of extortion, assault, and threatening local businessmen. Singh, meanwhile, claimed that Mohanty had passed lewd comments on one of the assailants' wives. 'All the allegations are false. What job does the boy do that we will ask for such a huge amount of donation? There are many who come to this local club to give donations. There are some who want to stop these pujas.' Singh accused Mohanty of passing lewd comments on a woman and claimed that her husband had beat him up. He, however, refused to identify the man. 'I know them. One of them told me that Mohanty had passed some lewd comment against his wife, so he assaulted Mohanty. But I am not involved in this. I was not even present there,' Singh claimed. Local councillor Arpita Ghosh said she came to know about the incident through social media. 'I spoke to the victim's family and asked them to go to the police. All the culprits should be booked and they should be punished. I cannot say who was there or who is responsible as I do not know if the police carried out their investigation,' Ghosh said.
