Ranked second in 2023-2024, Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi has won the Marc-Vivien Foé Award for the 2024-2025 season, which recognizes the best African player in Ligue 1 and is awarded by RFI-France 24. The Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) full-back was honored for the first time in his career during the UNFP Trophies ceremony. In an interview with France24, the footballer expressed his joy: «I hope to win more! And join the ranks of the great players. I am very proud of myself», he declared.
The organizers praised the prodigy, who continues to achieve feats with his club, including this latest honor, «a month after being crowned French champion and five days after being named man of the match in the Champions League semi-final against Arsenal». Antoine Grognet, a journalist with RFI's sports department, quoted by France24, believes it is «a well-deserved reward for the defender, who had an outstanding season».
«After waiting for his turn for a long time, Achraf Hakimi dominated the 2025 edition. Since his arrival at PSG in 2021, he has always been among the nominees, with constant progression», added the journalist. As the third longest-serving player in the PSG squad, Hakimi has excelled to the point of becoming «much more than a defender». According to Antoine Grognet, he is even «the prototype of the perfect full-back».
The journalist highlights Hakimi's «technical and tactical mastery that allows him to play further up the field, contribute to the heart of the game, and even attack, providing an offensive advantage».

Moroccan sports channel apologizes for map excluding Sahara during WAFCON broadcast

Arryadia, Moroccan sports channel, issued a statement apologizing for airing a commercial segment that featured a map of Morocco excluding the Sahara, during the kickoff of the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, which is being hosted by the Kingdom. The segment sparked a wave of criticism on social media. The channel clarified that the content was «produced by CAF» and was part of «the official international feed provided by the Confederation of African Football as part of the live broadcast of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations matches». The statement stressed that the channel «has no control over the content of this live feed, as it merely relays the footage provided by the organizing body to all broadcasters airing the event». The channel added that after the error was detected, «the Confederation of African Football issued an official apology to Morocco's National Broadcasting and Television Company, acknowledging full responsibility for the incident». Morocco's Hamid Moudatiir Wins African Glory Championship Title

Moroccan kickboxer Hamid Moudatiir claimed the African Glory Championship belt in the K1 class after a dominant performance at Dakar's Grand Theatre against Ivorian fighter François Mozou. Representing Morocco alongside Morad Laroussi, Moudatiir secured the professional K1 title by the judges' decision after five rounds of action in Dakar, Senegal. Moudatiir controlled the fight with a disciplined kicking game, landing a series of sharp low and high kicks, while Mozou focused on closing the distance to rely on his boxing. The Moroccan fighter knocked Mozou down in both the second and third rounds, but the Ivorian showed resilience and fought on until the final bell. With this victory, Moudatiir becomes the new belt holder in his division. In the same event, Gasmire Diatta defeated Morad Laroussi by judges' decision after five rounds. Both Moroccan fighters were supervised by Ahmed Malahi and Mohamed Laroussi. Tags: K1 classKickboxingMoroccoMoudatiir

Wydad to Axe 21 Players in Summer Reshuffle

Wydad Athletic Club are set to release 21 players as part of a major squad overhaul ahead of the 2025–26 campaign. The clear-out follows a disappointing season, including a third-place finish in the Botola Pro and an early exit from the FIFA Club World Cup, where Wydad lost all three matches – against Manchester City, Juventus, and Al Ain. According to various sources, head coach Mohamed Amine Benhachem has confirmed the list of departing players, which includes senior figures such as goalkeeper Youssef El Moutie, and defenders Aymane Dairani, Abdelmounaim Boutouil, Jamal Harkass, Nabil Marmouk, and Fahd Moufi. Midfielders and forwards leaving the squad include Ismail Moutaraji, Pedrinho, Arthur Wenderroscky, Mehdi Moubarik, Stéphane Aziz Ki, Saifeddine Bouhra, and Walid Nassi. Several young or fringe players – Ayoub Marsa, Rayhi, Ghilane, and Obang – are also set to depart. The club is undergoing a full rebuild as it looks to restore dominance in both Moroccan and African competitions. Tactical consistency and squad depth remain key challenges heading into the new season. Offloading surplus players and managing structural changes are seen as necessary steps in the process.
