What is cancer-stricken Joe Biden's net worth? A journey from ‘Middle-Class Joe' to millionaire

Hindustan Times21-05-2025
Joe Biden, the former President of the United States, is still an important person in American politics. But people are also interested in his personal money matters—especially after his recent health news and what he's been doing since leaving office.
For many years, Biden called himself 'Middle-Class Joe' because he didn't have as much money as many other people in the US Senate. He mostly lived on his government salary and the value of his home. But things changed after he finished his time as Vice President in 2017. Like many former leaders, he started making more money from book deals, giving speeches, and working with universities.
Between 2017 and 2019, Joe and his wife, Dr Jill Biden, made several million dollars from their books and speaking events. Joe wrote 'Promise Me', 'Dad', and Jill wrote 'Where the Light Enters'. Both books sold well.

A big part of the Bidens' money comes from their homes. They own two houses in Delaware—one in Wilmington where they live most of the time, and a beach house in Rehoboth Beach that they bought in 2017. The beach house's value has gone up since then. These two properties make up a large part of their wealth, along with their savings, investments, and retirement money.
• Jill Biden's job as a teacher at a college in Northern Virginia
• Money made from selling their books
• Payments for speeches and events
• Government pensions from Joe's time as a senator, vice president, and president
Joe also gets a special pension for being a former president. This gives him a steady income, along with office space and security. Even though he used to say he wasn't rich, he now has financial stability like other former top officials who earn money after leaving office.
With their homes, book money, pensions, and special appearances, Joe Biden's estimated wealth in 2025 is between $9 million and $10 million.

'Out Of Control': Donald Trump Says US Museums Focus Too Much On 'How Bad Slavery Was'

Donald Trump criticized US museums for focusing on negative history, like slavery. US President Donald Trump accused American museums of focusing disproportionately on the darker chapters of the nation's past- including 'how bad slavery was." In a post on his Truth Social platform, Donald Trump said he had instructed his attorneys to review the country's museums, comparing the move to his ongoing crackdown on universities. 'The Smithsonian is OUT OF CONTROL, where everything discussed is how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been- Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future," Donald Trump wrote. Donald Trump's comments follow last week's White House announcement of an extensive review of the Smithsonian Institution, which oversees many of the nation's most prominent museums. In a letter to Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie Bunch III, three senior aides to the president wrote that the initiative 'aims to ensure alignment with the US President's directive to celebrate American exceptionalism, remove divisive or partisan narratives and restore confidence in our shared cultural institutions." Museum scholars have raised concerns about the plan as Janet Marstine, a museum ethics expert, warned that the administration's demands 'set the Smithsonian up for failure," calling them unrealistic given the breadth of materials requested. The White House has asked the institution to produce everything from internal emails and memos to digital copies of all gallery placards currently on display. Earlier this year, Donald Trump issued an executive order assigning Vice President JD Vance- who sits on the Smithsonian's Board of Regents- to oversee efforts to halt federal funding for exhibits deemed out of step with the administration's agenda. The US President's latest stance marks a sharp departure from his first term, when he praised the Smithsonian's National Museum of African American History and Culture during a 2017 visit. At the time, Donald Trump said he was 'deeply proud" of a museum that honored 'the millions of African American men and women who built our national heritage." Founded in the 1840s with funds from British scientist James Smithson's estate, the Smithsonian is a federally supported trust but not an executive branch agency. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. HC orders screening of CCTV footage of Nainital poll counting

Dehradun: The Uttarakhand high court (HC) bench of Chief Justice G Narendar and Justice Subhash Upadhyay on Wednesday directed that CCTV footage of the zila panchayat president election counting in Nainital be screened. The court was hearing a petition filed by Poonam Bisht, one of the 22 voters in the election, who alleged that a ballot was tampered with during counting on the intervening night of Aug 14-15. The bench ordered that the footage, preserved in the treasury locker, be shown at 11 am on Thursday at the district magistrate's (DM) office. DM Vandana Singh will arrange for the screening and ensure videography of the process. Bisht's counsel has alleged that an officer tampered with a ballot paper, adding to the controversy surrounding the result. The HC directed that the petitioner, govt counsels, the State Election Commission's advocate and both presidential candidates -- Deepa Darmwal and Pushpa Negi -- be present during the review of CCTV and video recordings. The bench clarified that only nine individuals will attend the screening: three advocates from the petitioner's side, three from the govt, the SEC advocate, and the two candidates. Security for the process will be handled by SP (city) Jagdish Chandra. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo At the hearing earlier in the day, the DM informed the court that one voter had marked only a second preference without indicating a first choice, rendering the vote invalid under election rules. "The tally was equal, so a lottery was conducted to decide the winner. I saw the entire process, as did the observer and it is recorded in the CCTV footage," she told the court. Singh added that both candidates were given two opportunities to examine the process and review the ballots, once during the counting itself and again on Aug 19. The next hearing is scheduled for Thursday. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). State lags in renewable energy generation despite huge potential

Ranchi: Jharkhand has made modest progress in renewable energy sector despite possessing ample resources, stated the 'Powering Progress: Jharkhand's renewable energy and storage potential' report released on the occasion of Renewable Energy Day on Wednesday. The study by the Jharkhand Sustainable Just Transition Task Force and the Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) assessed renewable energy potential across 24 districts of the state. "Renewable sources contribute just seven per cent to the state's energy production. While Jharkhand has an estimated renewable energy and storage potential of 66 gigawatt (GW), its installed capacity stands at only 434 megawatts (MW) as of 2024-25 FY. The gap between the potential and the actual energy generation was due to the lack of detailed and actionable research at the block and district levels," the report stated. Out of the 66 GW energy potential, the state has an estimated potential of 46 GW from various renewable energy technologies and 20 GW from pumped hydro energy storage. Giridih, Ranchi, Gumla, West Singhbhum, Hazaribag, Palamu, and Chatra districts were identified as high-potential areas for generation of renewable energy and integrated renewable energy planning with district-specific targets for renewable energy were recommended. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Task force chairperson AK Rastogi said, "The report presents the first of its kind comprehensive, high-resolution assessment of renewable energy potential across all 24 districts of Jharkhand, which can provide a transformative opportunity redefining the state's economic and environmental future. This assessment will fill the gap and demonstrate that the transition from coal-dependent energy systems to renewable sources is not just environmentally imperative but economically compelling, offering pathways to create green jobs while attracting investments in the state. " Applauding the state govt's initiative, CEED CEO Ramapati Kumar said, "The state can ensure energy security, economic diversification, and climate resilience while setting a benchmark for eastern India's clean energy future by embracing its renewable potential. CEED is proud to provide steadfast support to the task force and the state govt in pursuit of low-carbon development pathways."
