Liverpool have had contact from French club Lyon over a deal for Tyler Morton. The 22-year-old would be open to a move to the Ligue 1 club as it would offer him a chance to progress in his career. Liverpool and the midfielder, who has attracted interest from other European clubs, would be interested in a permanent move. He was given an extended break by Liverpool until July 20 to ensure he had a proper rest after the tournament. Morton came through the ranks at Liverpool and has made 14 senior appearances for his boyhood club, having spent the 2023-24 on loan in the Championship at Hull City and the previous campaign at fellow Championship outfit Blackburn Rovers. Liverpool turned down interest from Bayer Leverkusen last season for the midfielder. There was plenty of interest in the 22-year-old last summer — most notably from Leverkusen who saw an offer of an initial loan with an option to buy rejected — but head coach Arne Slot wanted to keep him for depth purposes. It turned into a frustrating campaign for Morton as the form and fitness of those ahead of him in the midfield pecking order meant he was limited to only five appearances. Morton remained professional throughout and his attitude in training was excellent, but he admitted earlier this year that not playing had been difficult and had dented his confidence. The midfielder is technically gifted, possesses an impressive passing range and he is at the age where he needs regular minutes at senior level. It also suits Liverpool's transfer situation as they have embarked on a significant spending spree this summer — including signing midfielder Florian Wirtz — that is set to continue so Morton is one of the players they can recoup some money for if a permanent deal is agreed.
